We should all give up and become Guitards instead and not worry about it.
What happens if you play guitar AND bass though ?
not a fan of his but gotta admit......... that is a quality pair of wristbands/sweatbands
You're dead right there mate! A few of my favourite bass players...
Thanks Bass Bod for the information about the KA's that WD music sells.. Can anyone confirm they're Korean? I'm thinking I made the right choice with the Bill Lawrence EB60 though, so I can take the KA's off my to buy list!!! Bass players on a budget are a very thorough lot eh?
Alright Dal, how goes it mate. Thought I might see you lurking on here. The Kent Armstrongs are great pickups mate, and if you're a precision fan then their vintage hot pickups are mustard. The bass player in the Diehards uses my old Frankenbass which has got these pickups in and for punk / metal / hardcore stuff they really are the dogs nuts - especially for the price.
If for whatever reason you want to move this bass on, please let me know. I'm still on a hunt for a 5 stirng fretted that I like and I loved my trb6.
Hmmm.... I love this bass, espcially for playing live with. Its got a huge sound so I don't think I'll be shifting it for the foreseeable future. If for some reason I do, I'll let you know. oh and have a free bump too... -
I've got a K5 and playability wise its fantastic. The pre-amp is garbage in my opinion and needs swapping out to give it a bit more oomph! but apart from that they're great. If its metal and its Ibanez then you should check out the SRX range They're designed for metal and are relatively cheap.
drink some tea and take it away if you like it.
I only bought it for the chance of a free cup of tea. Imagine my disapointment when I didn't get one Nice to meet you mate, the rig sounds great. The neighbours are going to hate me very soon!

This should do the job nicely... This is an actual rig used by the Grateful Dead. Low calorie it aint....

Thanks for the advice chaps. I'm pretty much sold on getting one of these form what I've read about them. The only negatives I've seen from people is regarding the tone pump pre-amp which sounds like my kind of pre-amp. I pretty much have my eq up all the way on my Rockbass and it sounds absoloutley killer for recording.
Molan, you're right mate, North-East London. I'd love to try it out mate, but I know that if I did, I'd proably sell a kidney to get a NS5XL if I liked it. They sure look the dog's knackers. I'm already planning a bank job to get meself one of these ha ha...

I've been hearing a lot about Spector basses lately and wondered just how good / bad they are. I've never played one, but like the look of them, expecially the 5-string models. Anyone got one? What's the string spacing like, it looks quite close at the bridge which I like in a 5-string. What the low-end models and which ones would any of you recommend? Cheers in advance.
Anthony Jackson "Color of Money."......for example Monster NY groove player
Its actually called "for the love of money " - that bassline has been sampled so many times its untrue.. Anthony Jackson - what a boring fat c*** he is. I'd rather LISTEN to paint dry that read an article by him.

I think his finest moment was on the Get Happy album. Some fantastic songs and some fantastic bass lines on that album.
I know that using a plectrum on a bass is generally a taboo amoungst pro bassists.
No it isn't mate and anyone that tells you that it is is either: a) Not been playing very long Listening to too many Jazz w***ers c) a bass playing snob d) an idiot e) probaby all of the above. There are no rules that say bass has to be played fingerstyle alone and in fact, anyone aspiring to be a versitile musician in my opinion should learn both styles. All you session and dep wannabes out there, this is essential. What if you got a call one day from a Jam tribute band, or even an originals band going places that really wanted a pick player? What if a studio producer insisted on a pick bassline for a song? If you'd ignore this style you'd be left high and dry.

Sorry, haven't updated this thread in ages. I tried out a Traben Chaos and found it quite nice indeed. It was selling for £189.00 but it had Traben stock pickups and pre-amp, not the Rockfield pups which I'm told are better. I did buy an Ibanez K5 instead of the SR505 and the sound is reminiscent of my old Gibson Thunderbird (must be the mahogany body). Nice bass, not tried it live or at rehearsal yet but it feels nice to play. Not as nice as my Rockbass Corvetter though, which has the best neck I have ever played on any 5-String.
Is anyone familiar with this make? Seen them on GAK and bought the Chaos 5, never got it since i waited 2 months and every week they would say "due to be sent out next week" and in the end cancelled it even though i was wanting a nice 35" 5 stringer for some metal. So yeah, anyone seen/played/owned one? They seem pretty interesting.
I had exactly the same problem Orderd a Chaos Core 5-String with Rockfield pickups and Aguilar pre-amp and I kept getting fobbed off on the delivery times. I cancelled the order in the end which made me think that they never had it in stock in the first place. Shame really, I'd like to try one out.
Exactly! Clean is for losers Ci! haha. You're right tho, they are best for full on metal, the clean channel is useless! He's selling the amp as he's kind of come to the end of the road with it, been using it for over 10 years so is looking for a new sound...
Funny that because I heard the same thing from a death metal guitarist who's band uses our rehearsal studios. He'd gone for a Peavey JSX after the 5150 as he said it was more versitile.
I think Eddie has a warped sense of humour... the combo weighs a bloody tonne and they gave you one poxy little handle on the top!!!
You are not kidding there. Mine weighs an absoloute ton and if it wasn't for the great sound I'd have got shot of it ages ago - but I love the sound so much. Hence the reason I want to get a 5150 head.
Damn straight. Moreso than Rectifiers IME.
I never got on with the Mesa stuff at all for guitar. The 5150 has a more creamy distortion as well as being warmer sounding.
LOL actually that was the downside when my guitarist went for one...We use clean sounds too and well...the Peavey only does grit...Distortion even on clean haha! So he bought an Orange Rockerverb. :)n Unfortunatly...this amp BLEW my bass rig appart...it just couldn't keep up...So I had to change mine aha...still am! Damn Orange amp...LOUD! Great if you want the grit but it's worth saying that modern metal bands do use clean for sections too.
Burn the heratic! Clean just ain't mean ha ha! Never really heard much of the Orange stuff but what I have reminded me of the Marshall type crunch sound which I just don't like one bit. I know they are legendary amps and so many bands have used them but I've used JCM 800s, 900s, DSL2000s, TSL2000s and never really got anything out of them that comes remotely close to the 5150. I won't even metion Marshalls, solid state stuff which to me just sounds horrible.
No worries Ci, looks like it's sold pending now anyway. Yeah recorded the entire album with the 5150, they are great amps. In fact i've done a bit of recording with it recently on bass and it sounds evil! Too big to fit to my pedal board tho otherwise i would of had it The combos are supposed to be beautiful sounding (less wattage yeah?) wouldn't mind hearing one of those in action.
The 5150 is a monster amp. Yeah the combo is 60watts which belive me is plenty loud. I swapped the stock Peavey speakers for Celestion GK12-100 and a Celestion Classic Lead. Its the best amp for punk / metal / hardcore that I've ever heard or played through. The only thing that comes remotely close is an Engl. The clean sounds ain't fantastic but who the f*** wants clean guitar??
-
f***ing gutted. I knew I should have bought this... oh well... I'll learn.
