I've only ever tried two Thunders (both natural) and I don't remember thinking they were heavy, though it was a long time ago. The painted ones had maple bodies though.
Yep it was a black and natural coloured one. Early 1983 version, brass hardware probably didn't help the weight !! Identical to this one... 2. I started out on a Thunder IA. Brilliant beginner basses - weigh a ton though!
3.
So what should we be spending our money on instead?
4. this is another great song... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0WPC-N3UYE...feature=related Some topical social commentary in the lyrics too. Apparently the BBC tried to ban the video because "it was in poor taste".
5.
Same with the Explorer - strange to think that those iconic "metal" guitars date from the era of Chuck Berry & Elvis! J.
Apparently it was to do with all the space travel and rockets that was going at the time. Gibson reasoned that they should make guitars in outlandish shapes to resemble rockets and stuff like that. There's also a reverse Flying V guitar... and a reverse Explorer...
6.
'I appreciate your honesty, openess and candour. You have helped me out of a tricky situation as i found i was starting to develop an emotional attachment to one of the band. I wont say who to spare his blushes but i think he was starting to return my affections. I kept catching his eye while we were playing and im sure the little winks and knowing smiles werent just him saying 'nice playing Butler'. My 'gaydar' was pinging full on. With time it could have grown into something stronger im sure but im not ready for that yet until ive got the latest outbreak under control. Im not sure its contagious but when i gave you the money for the last rehearsal and bought that round theres a small chance i could have passed it on' ?
Ha ha.... if they reply and ask who it was say "Give us a kiss and I'll tell you" LOL!
7.
My personal favourite Great band! I am almost positive that if I had have been born in 1949, I would enjoy going to gigs so much more than I do now!
One of my favourite Kinks tracks along with "Victoria". I think they were a fantastic band, along with the Who and The Small Faces. London music at its finest.
8.
lol............no.............its a brown rawlplug!!!!!
You are McGiver and I claim my £5.
9. Got pissed about on a Spector Legend 5 so I decided to pull the trigger on this one. Getting this from the USA... SPECS * BRIDGE chaos internal bridgeTM * SCALE 34” four string and 35" five string * CONSTRUCTION bolt on * PICKUPS two rockfield® humbuckers * ELECTRONICS rockfield® active pre-amp * CONTROLS three-band eq with volume, and five-way switch * BODY paulonia * FRETBOARD rosewood * NUT bone
10. There's only one way to settle this.... FIGHT !!!
11. What amp was it and what did you replace it with?
12.
I think in his day he was a well respected player in the area but he's not gigged seriously for 12 years
There's his problem right there...
13. Lewisham is a bit too south for me, it it was North / East London I'd jump at this.
14. I think any Squier for fifty sheets has to be worth a punt.
15. You should have just said to him... "Look mate, if you want me to wear a flowery dress just say so I can tell you're a bloke who like other blokes to dress up for you".
16. f***sticks! If only this was a 5-String.
17. An outboard pre-amp is the answer. If you can track down a old Sadowsky MkI pre-amp or maybe a MKII it'll go a hell of a long way to making your passive bass sound much better. I used to have one and used it was my Jazz a few years ago and the improvement was vast.
18. Thats one mad looking bass with an even madder electronic configuration. Nice one - how much did you get it for? Funny enough, I was seriously considering getting a John Moyer Signature Traben as my quest for a cheapish Spector Legend 5 is proving elusive. Been offered one at a great price. Seriously considering it.
19. Looks like a good spec indeed - with an ash body too. How much did you pay for it ?
20. Its called getting old.... it happens to us all
21.
Not quite the same neck of the woods but there was a famous picture once of Bootsy crossing the road with Dave Stewart in Crouch End in full space-funk regalia, big hat, rhinestones, platforms, star glasses, pretty much a complete stage outfit. He was working with Stewart on one of his solo albums & had a recording facility somewhere in Crouch End. The locals just stood and gaped at this crazy looking guy strolling down the road seemingly oblivious to the fuss he was causing .
I know it well. That place is literally just down the road - its an old church building. Not sure if he still owns it or not but its impressive from the outside. If you go up to Muswell Hill just up the road, there's a church thats been converted into a pub - I kid you not. The bar is where the altar used to be.
22.
I was playing at ones of those multiple band charity gigs the other week and was suitably horrified to find a Behringer as the provided bass rig. Needless to say it sounded fantastic. Sigh!
I played in Stockport recently and was equally dismayed to find myself playing through a H|H 2x15 and one of their ancient bass heads. It sounded great. One of the best amp and bass combinations I've heard recently was a put together precision (squier body, cheap maple jazz neck and kent armstrong pickup) through a real sh*tty Laney bass amp with just volume / bass / mid / treble knobs. I have never heard a better precision sound. It was identical to the 70s John Deacon type sound on Dragon Attack and sounded real nice. Total cost of entire set-up was about £200.
23. Looks like a Spector Performer. Not a bad price as it goes. if it was a 5-string I'd have considered this.
24.

A highy underrated bass player imo. Other bass players could learn a hell of a lot listening to Cliff Williams. He has an amazing knack of keeping things solid and simple which isn't as easy as it sounds.
