1. Mate, what neepheid said about Warwick Rockbasses is very true. I've got a 5 String Corvette which is an early one made form quality components which I may be selling in the very near future (still not entirely sure as its such a great bass) but I bought it for £180 and its mustard. I had a genune Warwick Corvette which I sold and kept this as it sounded better. Mine is an early one made in Korea which I reckon are 100% better than the current Chinese versions.
2. The fact that John Entwistle owned it will make absolutely no difference to your playing whatsoever. I guarantee it. It won't Never. Not now, not never. The fact he owned it doesn't make it a great playing guitar, he's probably owned loads of crap playing guitars and now they're being sold off. See past the bullshit. For that sort of money, you could buy a top of the range Alembic (if thats what floats your boat), take a right tasty doris out for a slap up meal, buy a small mountain of top class columbian, get your legover, hire a jag, drive her home, have brekkie at the ritz and still have change for a day out on the piss with your mates. Maybe even have enough to have a session with the Monday club at your local too...
3.
Thanks mate... At last someone with some kindness instead of jelousy. O believe it to be available In the USA . Hope you're well Jj
Mate, if you want to sell it get on there's a vintage Gibson Bass forum out there. As for being jealous, I saw this comment on another thread for a dodgey Precision, another forum member was accused of jealousy for making some factual comments about a decidedly dodgey guitar. I'm not saying your Thunderbird is dodgey but mate we're not 5 year old kids with attidude problems. One thing I think I can safely say is that not many people on here would resort to the comments out of shear jealousy. From what I can gather from the people who go on here *apart from your good self* is that that most are sane, level headed decent blokes who wouldn't resort to cheap comments out of "jealousy". They are making comments on the guitar you are selling. Lighten up and wise up. You'll get a lot more respect.
4. Exactly, the prices goes up with the thickness of the padding. The extra thick 25mm padding is a lot.
5. Its not bad, but to be honest, there haven't been many videos out that that have been great. Jaco's is probably the best of a bad bunch. If you want something useful, easy to follow, suitable for all levels and just downright good value for money then get Standing in the Shadows of Mowtown. I learned loads from that.
6. Agree that they look good. i have an old Korean Rockbass and its a great bit of kit...and for £180 it was a steal.
7.
Mrs 1964 has imposed a strict "1 bass in = 1 bass out" policy!
Missus tried that once.... I'm still laughing now about that...
8. 1. Geezer Butler - the reason I play bass 2. James Jameson - probably the most influential bass player of all time. Has influenced almost every player either directly or indirectly 3. John Entwistle - Was to rock what Jameson was to soul. Honourable mentions to Jaco, Stanley Clarke, Pino Pallidino, Lemmy, Jack Bruce, Bruce Thomas, Roger Glover, John Paul Jones and Bernard Edwards. There are no right and wrong answers to these top three things. They're all personal for everybody. Its pointless arguing who should and shouldn't be here so I'm just going to look with interest at who's influenced who.
9. What Gibson have done for the guitar world they just haven't back up in the bass world at all. The Gibson Thunderbird is a flawed masterpiece, great rock sounding bass, lovely neck, nice light body, just ergonomically bad. Full of neck dive, bridge should be redesigned completely and the over-sized headstock and thin nut are a recipe for disaster as the number of snapped headstocks will show. The EB range of basses sound OK but they aren't great to play. They still have the 3 point bridge, all mahogany constructon with the neck / headstock snapping issue and like the Thunderbird they aren't the most versitile of basses. The short scale limits the sustain and resonance in my opinion but, like the Gibson Thunderbird do have a unique sound which for some styles of music can sound really good. The Artist series was a deviation from the usual Gibson formula of all mahogany construction but they weighed an absolute ton. Gibson pioneered some classic shapes in the guitar world such as the Les Paul and he radical designs of the Flying V and Explorer but during the 60s, 70s and 80s to an extent Fender left Gibson in the shade when it came to basses. Nice though some of Gibsons basses are they just couldn't get a world beating design to rival Fender's designs. They just didn't make them versatile at all.
10. its got "NO BRAKES"... LOL! does that mean once you start playing you can't stop. Seriously though, if this is all original then its worth bundles. Non-reverse Thunderbirds just don't turn up for sale at all.
11. You should have asked him... "Do ya like dags?"
12. 2 Frozen truss rods?? I prefer mine fresh rather than frozen... mind you, dessicated Truss Rods are something else!
13. Cliff Williams AC/DC absolutely rock solid, just what that band needs. I have huge respect for his playing.
14. this looks weird to me. The string spacing is too close, and the additional tuning peg looks to be an after-thought.... 18. I'm in the same boat, I'm trying to sell a USA Peavey Wolfgang 1997 pat pending job. £750 and although I had 9 watchers nobody wanted to touch it. Its a great guitar, superb workmanship, all original with case, and all the gubbings etc.
19. Despite the fact he's a two-bob, spurs supporting st the bloke is a great bass player and yes, he is highly underrated. He comes from round the corner from me (he used to live in Edmonton - I was born and bred in Tottenham).
20.
Errr.. not really on to comment like that in someone's for sale thread.
Didn't realise this was his i thought he was thinking of buying it... no offence
