1. Is this stll for sale?
2.
thanks for all the advice! d'addario have also been in touch so gonna have a word with the guitarists and see what they wanna do.
d'addario - you're guitarist will love them. They are what I use on all of my axes. Easily the best guitar strings out there. Bass-wise I've currently got a set of d'addario pro-steels on my Rockbass and they do sound nice, just not as nice as the DR HI-Beams. Still nice though.
3. Personally I don't think Roto's compare to DR Hi-Beams. For me they are the ultimate string. I've tried loads, DiAddario, Rotosound, GHS, Dean Markley, Klondyke, Ernie Ball (which really were crap strings) and Elites. DR all the way. Their Lo-Riders aren't bad either.
4. Just wondering with them chrome like glass finishes, what varnish is used over it? Presumably Poly?
5.
Argonaut - metal/rock band from South Wales Our 11 track debut album is available for anyone interested (£5) Mixed by Alex Newport (Taint, ATDI, Mars Volta, Melvins, Sepultura, Fudgetunnel) and mastered by Jeff Lipton (Arcade Fire, Battles) www.myspace.com/argonautofsouthwales
Not sure if anyone's checked this band out yet but I bought their album a while ago. All I can say that it is the f***ing dog's knackers. How they aren't bigger than they already are is beyond me. Very well produced and some great tunes. Singer has got an exceptional voice and the lyrics actually mean something. Highly recommended!
6.
I thought they only ever made them in China and Taiwan?
The early ones were made in Korea. I have a 5-string natural coloured one with what looks like an ash body. Absoloutely great sound out of it and I want one in black.
7.
Finally watched this, thought it was balls quite frankly.
LOL! The eloquence ! Very true though.
8. Thanks mate. If it was Korean, I would probably have had this.
9.
We worry so much about our nuances in tone and even band members sometimes dont notice
Wise words indeed and worth remembering if you get too bogged down and anal about how your bass sounds.
10. Rockbasses are very underatted, especially the early ones from Korea. I have a Corvette and I absolutely love it.
11. Is this a Chinese or Korean Rockbass mate?
12.
Some pretty luddite views in this thread. There seem to be a lot of members scared of change, which is kind of ironic considering that the thing that brings us all together is an instrument that was invented less than 60 years ago.
I wouldn't say Luddite views, I'd say different opinions on what we enjoy listening to. If I wanna hear someone play a piano concerto, I'd prefer to listen to it on the the piano that the bass. It just leaves me cold when I hear stuff like this. I'm not knocking the bloke's musical ability, just wondering why he chose the bass. As for scared of change, this has been done so many times before and to be honest, it hasn't really caught on. Not with me anyway.
13.
Nope. Still don't get it. If you're that determined to sound like a six-string acoustic guitar, why not go and buy a six-string acoustic guitar, instead of modifying a Bass out of all recognition, so you can show how good you are on something that sounds exactly like a six-string acoustic guitar, while telling everybody it's a Bass?
Exactly. Honestly, I'm not knocking people who do these sorts of compositions on the bass, if they enjoy it, more power to them. For me though, I wanna hear some solid grooves, tight basslines and basically players who use the bass for its designed role. I remember watching Stuart Hamm do some Beethoven piece and it was just cringworthy.
14. Can he groove though?
15. I just scored a set of DR Hi-Beams (5 string set) for £21 from the U.S. inc postage.... In the recent words of The Archbishop of Canterbury... "f***in' ave it!".
16.
new album, new tour, the time will be right.
??? Bono... is that you??
17. Very Sid Vicious-esque
18. depends what style of music, 4 or 5 string, what sort of sound you going for etc. etc.
19. Sorry to hear that mate. I reckon that's every musicians nightmare to have their gear stolen. Hope it turns up soon.
20. I use it all the time. It does keep rosewood fingerboards in good nick. Especially the light coloured ones which always look dried out to me. By the way, you wouldn't believe the amount of gunk and crap that can build up on fretboards over time.
21.
When I was a kid Wood Green Shopping City was a regular haunt.
Its not too bad there as it goes, its when you go past Turnpike Lane that it gets interesting..
22.
Where abouts?
Lovely Wood Green... epicentre of violent crime and general naughtiness.
23. Some TV Channel should do this now... it would be a sure fire winner. You heard it here first... That's Henry Thomas' Thumb by the way, slapping the crap out of his Westone Thunder IIIA. 24. What would be the cash price??
25. Ah ha ha... I had two of these in the mid 1980s. A black one and a pink one... I kid you not with that terrible fake leather gig bag which seemed to be in vogue in Japan in the 80s. I got the pair for a bargain price. They are nice playable basses but the sound is slightly thin due to lack of wood on the body. £100 is a good price for it though, as I said, they are very playable basses. The necks remind me of Warwick necks - a nice comfortable "C" shape. Be aware though, these aren't double ball end stringed basses. You use a normal string, thread it through a hole at the end of the fingerboard, pull it tight with a pliers, tighten the grub nut and tune from the other end. Quite fiddley if I remember rightly.
