7.
And I think here is the crux of the matter! For a start, you have boost from your preamp to create that classic tone, which is never a good thing. And even then, it doesn't sound as convincing as the old basses do. And when it comes to saying the basses are "capable of doing so much more", I find that to be such an overrated thing. When I borrowed Conan's 1986 S2, it produced one tone, essentially. On both pickups, it was fuller. With just the bridge, it was tighter and burpier. I never used the EQ, I never the passive mode. It just did what it did so well. Being able to do many things can be useful, but the core tone of that S2 was so good you could have used it anywhere. A little tweak on your amp to accomodate for a room or venue and you've got it sorted, classic and distinctive bass tone right there. It's not that I don't like the newer Status basses, they are absolutely fantastic. But they don't strike me as "the best" like the old ones do. The older S2's, Empathys etc etc have stood up next to the best basses I've ever played as equals. And in company like Kubicki, Fodera, Wal, ACG and Alembic, thats is no mean feat. The newer ones are good but they just don't make them like they used to, and the prices are unpalatable to me when such fabulous value is available elsewhere on the new and used market. It also strikes me now that the quality of the woods being used, particularly in the bolt on basses, has declined somewhat. I suppose good wood is more difficult than ever to source but this really is a shame as there are a few slightly dull looking Status basses around now whereas they all used to look a spectacle of fabulous woods in the 80's! I also wish they hadn't stopped using the brass hardware and it looked much better than the monorail units and was no more difficult to use. Please do not think I am "Status bashing" or defaming some sacred cow. I know that Status Graphite rarely come under criticism and quite rightly so. They have a long history of producing fantastic basses and I've enjoyed being a Status owner myself. But they are drifting away from the market, a market in which at one time, everyone wanted a Status bass! [/Counldnt agree more with yoyu take on modern status sounds, it a lot to the new cheaper hollow S2 neck, it killed the amazing tone, of the early S2,2000, Strata which I owned sounded incredable, but i would estimate if this bass was built today you would be talking £5000, as the man hours would be far more..

 13.
Fellow Chatters, Following two potential scams on E-Bay for my Limited Edition Ray I have decided not to relist it on there. I placed a reserve of £1,200 and it got to £1,051 which with courier would have been £1,091. I decided to offer it to the highest bidder for his final bid but his e-mails back to me were, shall we say, worrying! So here it is again, after some thinking I have decided to drop the price to £1040 and that includes next day UPS insured courier with full tracking service. Tradewise I am after a decent Fender Precision preferably with Maple neck and am happy to listen to any kind of sensible offers so if you have say an American P or even Japanese and are willing to make up the difference with cash lets talk. Would also consider Mexican P's with an obvious greater cash amount coming my way. I need to shift this to pay for a certain Fretless Fender I currently have on hold elsewhere on this forum so you will be helping two Bass chatters ;-) For my own reasons I will only ship to confirmed UK addresses. PM away guys...
Hello intrested in buying can you advise approx weight, subjectively how does the sustain tone compare to standard 3band ? Thanks Tom
 14.
Thinking of parting with my beloved 1979 Musicman Sabre. It is a pre Ernie Ball model with two humbuckers, active bass and treble, 3 way pickup selector and a series/parallel switch. It used to have a completely useless bright switch too which did nothing (I've read most of them were inaudible) but I have had it professionally rewired to be an active/passive switch to bypass the preamp and EQ which is much more useful. I made sure the mod was fully reversible and the bass is otherwise completely stock and all original. It sounds and plays amazing and can be set for a really super low action. It has a gorgeous neck (which is what I'll miss most) which is incredibly fast and smooth. It has plenty of vintage mojo with a fair few dings and some lacquer cracking on the body, none of which is structural at all. As can be seen below it is in a rare but beautiful chocolate brown. I bought it two years ago from an American Ebay seller who was also selling a matching Stingray from the same year. I paid about £1200 after shipping and customs charges. It has the original Musicman hard case which has a few cracks. It also came with what may be the original strap, as seen in the first pic. Anyone know if they originally came with straps? It's brown leather and feels like it could well be 30 years old. It is very likely I will change my mind about this but am offering it up for trades while I make my mind up. I am in no rush to part with it so am happy to sit on it until something interesting comes along. Only reason for this post is that it hasn't really been played in a few months as it doesn't really suit any of the projects I have going currently. Interested in unusual old basses such as Gibson RD's or EB-2's, Guild B302's, Kramer Aluminium necked basses, Rickenbackers etc. Also interested in nice valve amps such as SVT's, Matamps, Sunns, Burmans, Fenders etc. Try me, although I'm not really interested in modern basses generally. May take cash if the offer is tasty enough. Viewing can be arranged in Bristol but it could probably use a new set of strings and a set up. I'll get this sorted if there is any definite interest. Edit: Prepared to sell for £1100.
Hello would you be intrested in custom shop kubicki factor bass in candy apple red (Vail Johnson) sounds incredable...
