  1. Note that one other Higson went on to further success (but stayed in music rather than going over to comedy): Trumpet player Terry Edwards has a long but low key solo career and was in Gallon Drunk for a while.
  2. My sons' school is the nearest school to London Gliding Club (at the foot of Dunstable Downs), and I once won a 'glide' in the Tombola or something. I found it interesting, but scary at the same time. Overall , I don't feel inclined to repeat the experience, and when the pilot asked me if I wanted to take over the controls (as was included in the Tombola prize) I politely declined! Your 'crashing' comment has done little to change my mind .

    Band PA

You won’t go far wrong with Yamaha. You are also on the right track with a singer who pays for the PA!
  4. I can imagine there is some room for premium picks, but I reckon once you get above the £10 for 3 mentioned above (or the spring loaded thumb picks) you will get ........ how shall I say.......... extremely diminishing returns.
  5. In my band I’m just responsible for my own instrument leads. So I coil it with the twist method so it’s about the same size as the pocket of the gig bag. Then it does not uncoil etc. The other ‘lead’ is a wireless thing into the other pocket of the gig bag. for a gig I take coiled spares held in a coil by those elastic things in a previous post.
  6. So what was this correct method?
  7. Just took a listen to a few tracks - about 50% of the album. It fit's roughly in the 6music type of stuff I like, so I feel qualified to comment on that basis. But I'm not qualified music production expert, just a home music hobbyist who considers production a bit of a weak point. I thought it was pretty good, enjoyed it, and wouldn't raise an eyebrow if this cropped up on 6music. It certainly would seem to have good enough sound quality. So it may not be what you had in your head..... but I think the general listers will be OK with it.
  8. With so many of us here on the verge of hitting the big time, it would be good to be warned about how these maverick promoters operate. 😀
  9. Mrs Soup will go with me to Tribute bands (AC/DC, Stones etc) or to a folk festival... but can't stand my main musical choices. I go to an occasional Punk/New wave gig with the guys in the band. Might go with my parents to a blues or something. Apart from that I fly solo to most the gigs of the "6music" type bands which I love.
  10. Well I guess not do, but who did/will you go to gigs with? As a punter, not a player.
  11. In general I totally agree about OTT histrionic singing - can't stand it. ,..... BUT sometimes someone can make it work:
  12. 10 seconds eh...... I won't take up that much of your time:
  13. Listening on catch up to 6Music - Gideon Coe's bible-themed special (5th April). A mix of secular and non-secular songs with a bible reference. Here's a gospel choice - Doris Troy , "Jacobs Ladder". Nice bass line.
  14. Just had a listen myself the other day. Still sounds great doesnt'!!!
  15. I’m a massive Fall fan and it’s a shame about Mark. I’d have been as big more cautious about saying how great they’d be though. I had the opposite experience though.... I saw them when the band were well into the revolving door phase. The band walked on and I didn’t recognise anyone and MES looked about 20 years older than his actual age. Turned out to be a great gig. I went with my brother, not a Fall fan, and he thought so too.
  16. Nice pedal board. I don’t understand what many of them do, but nice pedal board!
  17. You forgot the bit where you stop the looper for a few bars and then start it again 😃!
  18. Yes I think so👍couple of years earlier than i thought. At least they improved the sound for the release.
  19. I went to see X-ray Spex (2010 I think) at the Roundhouse when Poly reformed the band for the shows. The support group (Goldblade) were OK, but had a great sound. X-Ray-Spex came on. They kicked off with "Oh Bondage Up Yours", but the soundman had not opened the vocal mike. So we missed most of the the iconic spoken intro ("Some people think little girls should be seen and not heard"). Then the band kicked in. Well, I say the band.... Drums and Sax. The Guitar and Bass were buried so low in the mix it ruined the night. So disappointing!
  20. Sometimes it's good to go back to the classics.... Sex Pistols NMTB.... here's Liar:
  21. Just listened to your set. I would have thought it wasn’t my thing, but actually thought it was great. Fantastic batch of songs brilliantly played and sung. The sound was excellent too. Best wishes for the coming months.
  22. So the tree saved trees?
