  1. AKG Wms 40 for me. 1 AA battery gives 30 hours of use so very cheap to run. No drop out, no change in tone, never let me down in 3 years of gigs (about 150) About £68.
  2. Played our third gig in 36 hours this afternoon. Went down really well but no let up with the weather here. Continuous supplies of iced water from very considerate organisers but that didn't prevent our drummer being carted off with heat stroke two numbers before the end. He's fine now. Another three in a row coming up in 4 days time, looking to still be very hot. Oh joy.😆
  3. I know it's 3.20 a.m but I'll still call it tonight's gig. Outdoor job. Went down well but hell, the heat. Started at 9.pm. and it was still 34 degrees. We were soaked after the first couple of numbers. I personally downed 3 litres of water over the evening. Another two gigs Sat and Sun and three more in the week. No sign of it getting cooler at the moment.
  4. Thank you. That sounds really interesting. Hadn't even thought of it. Will check it out now.
  5. Think I'm heading towards Cubase Elements. As mentioned before, probably best to take advantage of the one to one tuition and helpline from my friend. Thanks everyone for your time, advice and input. Most appreciated.
  6. So, I was right, and this leads on to my next point. Do you have the falcon?
  7. I'm slightly confused and if I'm honest I am solely responsible for my confusion. We have never met, are unlikely to meet and in addition, I have never seen a picture of you. Yet, I've somehow always imagined ( as one usually does conjur a mental image of others based purely on their ramblings within these forums) that you were a rather large Nicholas Soames /Patrick Moore type look-alike. Based on that assumption being correct, this bass is far too small for you.
  8. Much appreciated, thank you. I'll investigate all options. Thanks again.
  9. Most appreciative of all comments. Thank you. Having checked out stuff as much as I'm able with no knowledge or experience, it's come down to two options. Reaper. Cheap, sufficient for my needs and apparently, fairly easy to make a start. Cubase. Lot more expensive, seemingly more complicated but the one big advantage is that a friend with a semi commercial studio has offered to get me started with some free one to one tuition.
  10. Thanks for that skidder, I'll check it out now.
  11. Personally, I don't rate that Adam bloke who's actually in it now. John Deacon was right. Queen was over when Freddie died.
  12. I have a want to start home recording as I think I'm probably coming to the end of my gigging years. I've had a thorough look at Skoll's beginners thread (Brilliant) However, I mistakenly ventured into page 2 and being a newbie non techie, it's starting to sound complicated. Okay, this is where I'm at. I've got all the instruments I'll ever need. Someone is lending me a Rode vocal mic to get started. I have a P.C with 8 things of RAM and an external 1Tb hard drive. For the moment, I'll use a NAD amp and Mission speakers as monitors. I intend to buy a Focusrite audio interface. Now, the DAW. I'll need something REALLY intuitive and easy and a local guy here has suggested Korg Gadget which is now available for P.C. Any opinions on this would be highly appreciated as it seems to have no mentions here that I can find. I've no intention of becoming Mark Ronson and purely want to record my own stuff with me playing it all for fun. Thanks
  13. Depped on Saturday night with a bunch of mates at the fete de la musique. Loved it. Singer is a complete nutter. Jumping all over the place, out in the crowd, it tired me out just watching him. Ultimate front man. We even made the newspapers😆
  14. Victims of the dreaded French rain again last night and looks to be the same for tonight. Shame, as this weekend (specifically yesterday) is the national Fete de la musique so there are gigs all weekend, all over the country. Luckily for all the other bands playing in France, it only rains at our gigs😆
  15. Wow, the Mooer Airmaster, but is it any good for metal?
  16. If you really want to get noticed, try the Jetco 50. Not as expensive as you may think and certainly makes a difference on stage.
  17. As you say, goes with the territory. Band performance wise, it was great. We really played well but sometimes, an audience just don't want to get going. Luckily, it was very well paid and we got great feedback from the client and, another gig from a guest but it still doesn't make you feel like you delivered the goods.
  18. I tell my wife I've bought stuff and these days I just get a raised eyebrow, a wry smile and a "what are you like?
  19. I get it Blue. Same for us. Private party, 120 people, and it was like they'd invited everyone in France that had no interest in music😆 Hard work to get them going and as usual, ignore you most of the night and then at 2am, shout for more when we're all dead on our feet and want to go home.
  20. Last night was a weather disaster. This particular ville always puts on its Fete de la musique a week earlier so as not to clash with a nearby large town. Gutted for them. It absolutely poured down from start to finish so basically, a well paid rehearsal for tonight's gig. No fun playing to a couple of hundred people 60 metres away huddled under canvas marquees.
  21. Over here(France) Open mic nights are quite plentiful but they are, exactly what it should be, open to all, regardless of ability. This of course can be disappointing, boring and even funny at times but alternatively, surprising and brilliant. The thing is, there are folks out there who are just starting out and need to build confidence and/or ability and eventually, get to know others on the music scene and possibly learn how to play with others. No doubt, there have been many occasions where someone's confidence has been shattered by the smirking from fellow "clquey" musos. French audiences, I've found, treat anyone and everyone with the utmost respect if they're prepared to get up there and have a go. That, in my view is how it should be hence, I stay well away from jam nights where it's the same pals every week only wanting to play with whom they're comfortable with. A lot of players have conveniently forgotten how much nerve it actually takes to get up on stage and "go public" for the first time.
  22. Leaving price aside for the moment, how desperate are you to get this out of the house time-wise?
  23. That maple is pure class. It's beautiful (and I'm not even a sunburst fan)
  24. I'm in France. However this has not really been a problem in the past. In fact, I'll be driving over in July to pick up the two youngest grandkids from Torquay to bring back to France. That's about 3/4 of the trip right there. Does it break down or is it permanently full size?
