Cover versions of songs with discomforting lyrics
PaulWarning replied to Stylon Pilson's topic in General Discussion
We do Jilted John and without fail everyone smiles at, she a slag, and he's a creep, she's a tart, he's very cheap, she's a slut, he thinks he's tough, she's b1tch and he's a poof, sometimes political incorrectness is amusing. I may be old fashioned but when did it become ok to say the C word and not the N word oh yeah the profanity filter is really pi*sing me off -
thanks for that, I'm doing my best to resist, after all what's the point when you've already got a USA P? apart from all black with a maple finger board 😣

What do you value about your local music shop?
PaulWarning replied to MiltyG565's topic in General Discussion
Can't argue with that, which is why the high street is dying, it's progress, the world moves on, I don't want to go back to having to take whatever strings they choose to stock at a higher price, and as for left handed basses, forget it -

yes I was, didn't know he was closing, but like you, not surprised. Bit of a character is Jimmy, at a recent open mic he had a bandanna on his head, I said didn't know it was it was fancy dress you coming as a pirate, to which he replied "Better than coming as a c*nt" perhaps not the best at retail diplomacy though -

He doesn't make much from his shop, tops it up by giving guitar lessons, I suspect that's where most of his business comes from. Having been in retail myself (newsagents) I really don't know how music shops make money, I suspect most of them are labours of love -

Smallish local music stores have to cater for Mummys and Daddys coming into the shop for a guitar for little Johnny, haven't a clue what they're buying so need advice, if Johnny then progresses a little he'll know what he wants so probably won't need their advice, which is why they have mostly inexpensive stock, that's what their customers need. -
find a store selling lefties? good luck with that
-
all merch sales go into the band pot, we did have a couple of members leave and we told them they'd get their share of any sales of the CD they played on, after a couple of (minor) payouts they told us not to bother anymore as we were selling them on the strength of the gigs with the new line up. Does help when you stay on amicable terms with ex members 😊

depends what you mean by midrange, anything from 100hz to 1000hz could be called midrange, boost around 300 to 800hz and it gets boxy, sounds awful on it's own but makes you heard in the mix.

the cat obviously thinks that Rickenbacker is a dirty word
-
I used to think that whenever I heard one it was clank clank clank, but recently I've heard a couple that sounded suburb, Duncan Reid (of the Boys fame) and Paul Gray on the Damned tour
-
yes, Trace didn't make many duds but this was one, had the misfortune to use one on a multi band gig, "Trace Elliot combo supplied" oh goody methinks
-
I've got an old encore, found it next to a dust bin, never bothered stringing it as a leftie, tried playing it, as @bertbass says it was like starting to play again but knowing what you're supposed to be doing, frustrating as hell and not easy, hopefully I won't have to do it, yesterday's gig went ok
-
Did a gig last night and for the first time arthritis in the knuckle of my fretting ring finger affected my playing, early days but got me wondering if anybody else has tried to swap left to right or vice versa after learning reasonably proficiently one way ? if so how did it go? I know the guy out of the Bootleg Beatles switched from right to left.
-
JJ doesn't play it live like the record I think they may have double tracked it. I just run down from the 12 fret playing fast then play the 3 fret on the D string and open g for the last note near enough for me.

Why isn't this system used by more Bass builders
PaulWarning replied to fleabag's topic in Bass Guitars
another innovation that I think would improve any bass is a zero fret, no more messing about filing the nut (and going too far, opps) -
me? I don't take any chances, luminous tape off ebay and before anybody says it, no I've not stuck them on the wrong side, I really am left handed
-
on the subject of remastering being a money making exercise by the record company, having bought the original, I have no qualms about obtaining the remaster for free by whatever means possible
-
the stereo Beatles stuff was nothing to do with remastering that was how they were released originally, nobody took stereo seriously in the early 60's, when they remastered the Beatles catalogue they made a point of releasing the first 4 albums in mono as well as stereo, and they do sound better in mono. Incidentally, the first Ramones album was released with guitar in one channel and bass in the other, very strange
-
in my limited experience it's the bass guitar that's more prominent in the mix, well the Beatles and the Clash's are, so I prefer them, but I suppose it depends whose done the remix, everything does seem clearer though so all in all I think they are a good thing, mostly

I don't think it's just the cab, I've got a Trace 1 x 15 and I can shave 5Kg off the weight by swapping a non neo eminence with the Trace original

we're all different, that's the main attraction of Trace heads for me, the GP12 gives me the chance to shape my sound better, especially like being able to cut the 30Hz and 40Hz area to clean up my sound and cut out any boom that happens in certain rooms

TBH I tried drums and found that boring, each to there own
-
same reason there's no lefty violin players, they could poke out the eye of the guy sitting next to them
-
I have wondered about this, perhaps with guitar playing the left and right hand do totally different things, also, how many lefties have given up trying to play other instruments because they can't get left handed ones? Does anybody play double basses the wrong way on with the strings changed round?
