  1. Cheers, we've decided on something similar, the Shure WH20 XLR so we don't have to mess about using a different plug and phantom power, there doesn't seem many about that are not designed for use with some sort of power pack
  2. anybody any experience of this one https://www.thomann.de/gb/shure_pga31.htm#bewertung
  3. Our drummer does backing vocals, trouble is he keeps moving his head while playing so a headset mic would seem to be the answer, don't want to pay a lot and doesn't have to be wireless, any suggestions anybody?
  4. if it was released today it would probably be banned, I'm always surprised that it's still played on the radio,
  5. ah yes, I remember that description of a certain brown colour, there was an Agatha Christie book called "10 little n*****s" later retitled "and then there were none", and the less said about Guy Gibson's dog the better, although the last time I saw the Dambusters it hadn't been edited out as it had been previousley. Funny old world
  6. perhaps I ought clarify, we, quite rightly, don't use the N word because it upsets a lot of people and has racist connections , but to the older generation the C word is just as upsetting (my 92 year old mum for a start) yet it's regularly used in public and social media, personally I'm not bothered by it unless I'm in company who are upset by it. Yet in the 70's there were comedy shows that used the N word
  7. the story goes, which you've probably heard, when JJ broke the the green one thumping it to get feedback he had it repaired but it was never the same, he tried hundreds of P's and never found one that sounded like the one one he broke, don't know if it's true, good story though. I do know the last time I saw them live, Peaches just didn't sound right at all. Wait a minute, you said had, you mean you let it go?
  8. not heard J J Burnel's green Precision then?
  9. well they have too, they make a product that doesn't wear out, so the only way they can keep selling it is to try and convince bass players to buy another one by tweaking it
  10. that would explain it I suppose,
  11. you mean like a Jazz? you'd have to have a Hi Pass filter set at about 300 Hz to make it sound anything like that (if you've not guessed not impressed) perhaps something was lost in the recording
  12. thinking about it it could be MIM, initially I thought the Standards were only made in the USA, bit of research and apparently not. I was looking for a lefty and I know they're not MIM, I think I got confused, Andertons do MIM for £500 so not such a bargain, unless it is a USA and they've cocked up
  13. https://www.rattleanddrum.com/fender-standard-precision-bass-in-lake-placid-blue.html unfortunately I'm a lefty
  14. It's a long way from Nottingham, I suppose Rattle and Drum at Derby might get them in, no lefty's at the moment but they do have this https://www.rattleanddrum.com/fender-standard-precision-bass-in-lake-placid-blue.html looks a bargain to me if you play the right way on
  15. We do Jilted John and without fail everyone smiles at, she a slag, and he's a creep, she's a tart, he's very cheap, she's a slut, he thinks he's tough, she's b1tch and he's a poof, sometimes political incorrectness is amusing. I may be old fashioned but when did it become ok to say the C word and not the N word oh yeah the profanity filter is really pi*sing me off
  16. thanks for that, I'm doing my best to resist, after all what's the point when you've already got a USA P? apart from all black with a maple finger board 😣
  17. Can't argue with that, which is why the high street is dying, it's progress, the world moves on, I don't want to go back to having to take whatever strings they choose to stock at a higher price, and as for left handed basses, forget it
  18. yes I was, didn't know he was closing, but like you, not surprised. Bit of a character is Jimmy, at a recent open mic he had a bandanna on his head, I said didn't know it was it was fancy dress you coming as a pirate, to which he replied "Better than coming as a c*nt" perhaps not the best at retail diplomacy though
  19. He doesn't make much from his shop, tops it up by giving guitar lessons, I suspect that's where most of his business comes from. Having been in retail myself (newsagents) I really don't know how music shops make money, I suspect most of them are labours of love
  20. Smallish local music stores have to cater for Mummys and Daddys coming into the shop for a guitar for little Johnny, haven't a clue what they're buying so need advice, if Johnny then progresses a little he'll know what he wants so probably won't need their advice, which is why they have mostly inexpensive stock, that's what their customers need.
  21. find a store selling lefties? good luck with that
  22. all merch sales go into the band pot, we did have a couple of members leave and we told them they'd get their share of any sales of the CD they played on, after a couple of (minor) payouts they told us not to bother anymore as we were selling them on the strength of the gigs with the new line up. Does help when you stay on amicable terms with ex members 😊
  23. depends what you mean by midrange, anything from 100hz to 1000hz could be called midrange, boost around 300 to 800hz and it gets boxy, sounds awful on it's own but makes you heard in the mix.
  24. the cat obviously thinks that Rickenbacker is a dirty word
