Because I really enjoy hanging out with my friends and making music. Gigging is just a necessary evil which makes the rest of it possible.

Another one under the belt last night. Turned up at the bar we were supposed to be playing and the place was tiny. Maybe 6 or 7 tables in the whole place. Then we were told we would be playing outside. No problem usually. Nice little courtyard or beer garden. I'm well up for that. Nope. This was out on the pavement next to a main road. So as we were supporting another band and didn't want to let them down we dutifully set up. Where do we get power? The owner points to a plug socket under a table just inside the door. Great. So now we have to run about 40 feet of cable ( luckily we had the foresight to bring a few extension cables) through the main door, down a flight of stairs and straight across the main path to the outdoor seating, with no way of protecting it from Joe public. We finally got set up and had about an hour to wait before playing, at which point we realised one of the guys that the other band had brought with them was a total and utter shouty, obnoxious bell end and was already half cut when he got there. Cue another 45 minutes of alternating between trying to avoid said bell end, and trying not to punch his lights out. Then we get on "stage" ( I use the term very loosely ) at the agreed start time of 8pm and were asked to wait half an hour until more people arrived. At this point I absolutely lost my sh#t and said I'm either playing now or I'm not playing at all. Not my fault if people can't be bothered to turn up on time for a gig that's been advertised for weeks. In the end I begrudgingly agreed to compromise and wait 15 minutes. We then played an hour set to about 2 dozen people, with drunken bell end shouting at the band all the way through it. Oh and all this happened in temperature well above 30°c. Ask me again why I hate gigging. 🙄

A little bit optimistic about pricing...
Newfoundfreedom replied to carlsim's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Yup. I posted this months ago. Not only is the clown still trying to sell it for ridiculous money, he's actually increased the price since I originally posted it. -
Once again. No idea what this thread is about. 😆

I used to have a G2220 and was always amazed by how big (no pun intended) it sounded. Great little basses these.

Nice. That's on the wish list ready for my next Thomann order. 👍

Yup. Autocorrect is the usual culprit. It's the bane of my lime.

I prefer Harley Davidson's early albums before he sold out to the music industry.

I'm a little bit obsessed with The Charismatic Voice on YouTube. Of course it doesn't hurt that she's extremely attractive and has one of the most emotive and expressionate faces I've ever seen, and a voice like butter. Sometimes I'm not even sure what she's reacting to, and I'm not sure I even care. 😆

My Mum told me if I kept playing with it I'd go blind. So I just played with it a little bit and now I wear glasses.

I started the original "I Hate Gigging" thread. Now with a new band, doing our own original music. We're much more on the same page with how often we want to gig than the previous band we were in (6 piece) where nobody could agree on anything. I'm finding it a lot more enjoyable this time around, but I'm still crippled with anxiety going on stage, although having watched back some of our performances in video you would never know it. I wish I felt half as confident as I look.

Yeah it's such a shame they have to ruin it with that bloody SDGR logo that looks like a font from a 90's word processor.

Hi Christina. Welcome to the forum. So sorry to hear about your son. We may need a little more information to see if anyone knew him. Full name, general age, area he lived in, the name of any bands he may have played in, etc.

I'm the exact opposite. I think the Fender headstock is pretty much the ugliest thing I've ever seen on an instrument. I can just about live with the Telecaster shape, but the P and J basses with their bulbous shape and huge, flat, elephant ear tuners are hideous. It's the main reason I'd never buy a Fender or one of their many clones. I just couldn't bare to play something with a headstock that ugly and the rest of it varying degrees of blandness.

I'd prefer to play blind drunk. It would help with the nerves, but I don't. If it's a casual, barbeque, garden party kind of deal I might have one before going on. Anything where playing to the paying public I generally only drink afterwards.

I'd only have to charge an extra pound for every a$$hole I've had to work for and I could have retired to the Saychelles at 40.

My sixer is 14lbs. 😆

Yup. If that came on a sub £200 bass I'd still send it back. Let alone a Lakeland.

I think it's "out of". Not for me I'm afraid. It's too jazz. By which I mean, to my ear the timing is all over the place. Which might be really clever, as I am assured, is jazz. But my brain just can't process it. To me it just sounds wrong. Maybe I'm just a heathen. 😆

Yes. In summer I sweat when I'm playing. In winter I wear a jumper.

Excellent! I bet that's gonna be a great buzz.

It seems to be common running through this thread that the snobbery is against anything other than Fenders. In that case I'm more than happy to be looked down on. I'd rather plan an elastic band than a Fender.

I've got the Harley Benton Airborn Pro, as does my guitarist. We both use then both for practice and gigging and I can't fault it at all for the money.
