1.
Could be... I tend to harp on about it quite a bit Its by no means the 'greatest amp in the world ever!' - but what is?! I got to run it direct to a 50kw Crown/EAW PA the other week and it brought a big smile to my face Glad you're enjoying yours too. I can't believe they stopped making them. Silly Ampeg.
Now that I would like to hear. I've had the SVP Pro and I still have the SVT IIP preamp and they are great bits of kit. The SVP is more versatile as in you can dial in a great distorted tone but IMHO the SVT IIP has a rounder, deeper, more 3D sound, brilliant for making the tone of your bass smack you in the nads. Any Ampeg pre will float your boat, they dont make them anymore because clued up bassists bought them to go with powerful P.A. amps, so as to get the Ampeg tone with massive power and less weight, so Ampeg ceased production, as it was robbing them of their SVT sales. You could get a nice light power amp like a Crown XTi 1000, link em all together into a nice light 4 ohm 4x10 and go melt some face.
2. Sounds good and some tasty licks too.
3. It looks like a plume of plasma bursting from the surface of the Sun then seperating into two.
4. I went to see Squarepusher years ago thinking I was going to see a mind blowing set of interstellar techno, what I didn't bank on was that I was going to see the greatest bassist I had ever seen. Maybe he doesn't want to do a "band" type of thing but his music rips my mind apart and his playing makes me want to sell my bass related posessions. His resolve to not be showbiz in any way apart from letting people hear his music, is like the tole of a bell from within myself. I personally, don't operate like that, I enjoy interaction and tension but his music beguiles me and constantly suprises me.
5. It sold for £3500, wow!
6. I want it, I want it, I want it.....
7. Would I share my gear, let me tell you a little story. A band I was in in the 90's had a support band who toured with us around the country, they had better gear than us as they had just got a deal with Food records, anyway, the last night of the tour came and their drummer and bassist wanted to use our gear, as the stage was too small for two sets of gear and there were three bands, with us headlining. At the end of their set, they decided to go all "The Who" and the guitarist and bassist started to twat the cymbals and my bass rig with their guitars. After a small word with them later and the promise of my trusty pickaxe handle, which I still have, they quickly left the building never to be seen again. If you are in a band, it is your resposibility to bring your own gear and for it to be in working order. Harsh, maybe but in the real world charity begins at home.

Power

More power is great, think of it like a Porsche 911 versus a Nissan Micra on a motorway. Both driving from A to B, both never exceeding the 70 MPH speed limit. The greater excelleration of the Porsche will make for a higher performance, which in bass amp terms equals greater dynamics, cleaner lows and more slam.
9.
....Thanks for t'bump... Sure I saw 'em at Leeds (...then) Polytechnic...but have no recollection of the gear used! Would have been around '88.....????
Saw them at Liverpool Uni 1985 on the "Steve McQueen" tour, I don't think he had this cab back then but his sound was incredible (I was standing right in front of him, as I do with any band I go to see, right by the bassist, did it with Motorhead on the "Iron Fist" tour, couldn't hear for three days). "Words, are just trains, for moving past what really has no name" P McAloon I love Paddy, Swoon.
10.
Steve Pearce http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea...iendID=66568208 Top player. It really amazes me that he does not seem to get much of a mention on this forum. Garry
Steve Pearce has always rocked my world, a total UBER DUDE.
11. $650 = about £530 with duty and shipping, errrrrr, jog on Poyndexter.
12. The Good Lord has certainly given him the funk but check out the young kid who is just in shot in every clip, I bet he will be a bass star in the future. Having said that, it is all a bit claustraphobic, with that many people on the stage.
13.
Allo! Had the misfortune to have a look round there today - trying to be polite and strike up a conversation with the bigger guy in there and was then told by the `shorter' member of staff that I was `sad owning that many basses' and should take up stamp collecting instead as I'd pull more women! Walked out and coughed the word `twat'. Needless to say I did not purchase the Aria *SBR-150 for £899....! * labelled as an SB-1000 Custom!!!
Hi Nick how much do you charge for your valet service? Not including strings.
14. That's nearly £200 off the new price, seems like a good deal to me.
15. Hi Gerry it should fit with no mods and you can get a 9v under the controls no problem. They seem like a good buy, 20 bucks, sweet. If you need any help installing it, don't hesitate to get in touch.
16. Wow, she is GOOD.
17. Here's mine. I need a smaller cab for getting to the rehearsal room, so get in touch. Aguilar DB680 preamp, QSC PLX 3102 (3100 watts @ 4 ohms) and a Tech Soundsystems 610XT. It sounds incredible, totally blows anything I have had before clean away.
18. Just pulled out the keyboard draw to type something profound, can't, I'm mesmerized by its beauty.
19. I'm thinking of these guys for my Tech 6x10-funny shape- email on its way,
20. Err by about 2 grand!
21. I saw them in the Summer, supporting Blondie, is Jet back with them yet?
22. £350 + postage+ 22% = stick it up your Ed Asner. There is a huge thread on Talkbass about the the limitations that Chunk are putting in the way of the UK buyer, it's just a pedal forfuxache.
23. Tidy pups there Sir. Feet, meh.
24. More pics pleaes, especially of the Precision.
25. If you have a tunnel from the bridge to the control cavity, simply get a piece of wire, splay the end and put it under the bridge, solder the other end to the back of a pot or better still, check out the Lakkie schematics to see where a bridge ground should go. Also, get in touch with John to supply the copper springs that go in between the knob stacks to improve contact between the top and bottom parts of the stacks.
