1.
Sounds bloody awful, like the strings are several years old & there's a crack in the speaker!
How dare you say that about Gary Lees tone.
2. I think you mean I l'd o l. Is this bass too beautiful to be photographed, again?
3.
I realise that, Alan, it was'nt aimed at your basses, it was just general comment on basses getting bigger and bigger! Actually, I went to the Bass Gallery looking for quality short scale. There were hundreds of basses but only one shortie - a £120 Squier. "Oh yeah, everyone comes in here looking for short scales but nobody makes 'em" was the shop assistant's comment.
Hi Kev I own a lefty ACG Recurve Singlecut and when seated I play it as you describe. I ordered the bass blind because of the price and because I had done a lot of research and plenty of chats with Alan. Lefties are hard to find with custom builds that you are interested in, so a leap of faith was required. I'm glad I did because it is a great bass in every respect and the neck is so much better than say for instance, a Wal. Playablity and tone wise it is very good. I'm sure someone on here would let you try theirs, good luck and PM me if you need anything else. Steve.
4. LEADER, LEADER, LEADER....
5.
Lefty love!
I love you Josh
6. Me too but for $1200-1800, no thanks.
7. Bored, waiting for dinner to be served, so here goes. Bear in mind I'm a lefty like Josh, so finding basses 20 odd years ago was tricky, first up, Ibanez Blazer, natural with black s/p, didn't know if it was good or not, Hohner B2A, absolute sh*te, Westone Thunder 1A, tiny bass and I don't know what all the fuss is about in owning one now, Jaydee Mark King, looked amazing, played like a dog, dead spots all over the neck and hissed like a cobra, KGB Status Series II Replica, this was and is, after getting it back 2 years ago, the best playing bass I have ever owned PERIOD, Gibson Thunderbird, 1976, what a f***ing monster, amazing tone and dead playable (I played it upside down, so it balanced perfectly). Break of a few years, then a 1995 Squier Precision, what a great bass, brilliant construction but I put EMG's into it and it is now strung with flats and is a total funk machine, Japanese Fender Jazz, another amazing bass (EMG's, J Retro, Badass) and last but by no means least, my ACG Recurve Singlecut 6 string, I must have been tripping when I ordered this, I wanted a 4, then 5 string but I thought I know, lets make it a 6 string. I hated it for the first few months, then it all fell into place and I now absolutely love it. I still own these last 4 and won't part with them as they give me pleasure and are great for everything I need.
8. Hi guy's I've been listening to the samples on the Malekko Heavy Industries website (what a cool site) and I am well impressed with the tones from the Assmaster, do any of you own such a device and can you give me your opinions? Ta.
9. Hi Dave, have a Birkenhead Bump from me and after you sell the bass, stick around.
10.
Won't solve it but may ease the pain and help a little....try some glucosamine gel, you can get it from lots of places but Holland & Barratt do it cheap. Mike
Hi Mike I like that bass in your avatar, I believe Mr King has 5 string the same colour, any chance of some pics please? Steve. P.S. I hope it's not Carpal Tunnel.
11. My first bass was an Ibanez Blazer, £99 from Fushion Music, wish I still had that.
12. I'm with Lorne here, just play them in and they sound better.
13. You've got some balls posting this and I think Beedster will be wearing them as ear rings shortly.
14. That's a lot of bass for £900, good luck with the sale.
15. I started using Picato (does anyone remember them?), because they were the cheapest I could find, nickel, I think, then Rotosound, then Bass Centre Elites. So this is 1983 to 2002, so using Elites from about 1986 to 2002. Then I ordered some DR Hi Beams from the States and they feel and sound great, so I tried Lo Riders and they sound great with a little more tension. I use Lo Riders on my 6 string, this gives a tighter B string and I use Hi Beams on my Jazz, my P bass has Status Hotwire flats on it and it sounds so funky, total Kool and the Gang "Funky Stuff" era. The only problem is finding strings for my headless bass, it has Elites at the moment but I want to try out the Status strings, as their flats are so good. I also use D'Addario Pro Steels, they are brilliant for the money if you get them from the States, not as cheap as 3 months ago but still way cheaper than getting them in this country. I get my DR's and D'Adds from the US.
16. Gorgeous bass, I love the Iceman shape. I bet it sounds nice and deep with those humbuckers and that big headstock. One of my fantasy basses would be an Iceman with a through neck, in Candy Apple Red with a bound top, neck and headstock, in left hand, how much do you reckon Ibanez would charge me?
17. Excellent price, I think Marcus may be in touch.
18. Glockenglank Duo 2x12" cab, the heavy version. Brilliant. Oh, I better tell you how it sounds. The bottom end is so warm and powerful, the mids are in your face and the highs are just sublime. This gives the whole cab a gorgeous, deep, detailed, powerful presence that two 12" speakers and a tweeter shouldn't really be capable of. It can take a lot of welly and is so eager to reward your tone changes from the bass and amp, in short, I love it. It fits in the car when the Tech 6x10 doesn't have to but it weighs the same...60+lbs. I'll do a more in depth review when I've gigged it.
19. Brilliant collection Josh, hurrah for Ernie Ball for making all of their lefty basses available in all colours....unlike Fender.
20. 7 mins, is that a record? No, my mistake, that's 7 inches. Caghoul collected.
21. I think they are beautiful looking and sounding instruments.
22. Mike Brooks reviewing the 5 strings and giving the GB 48/50, 6 pages of sub £200 basses with just specs, a picture of P Nut, which always gets on my sweater meat. Good points, JJ Burnel getting some brownie points, the Esperanza Spalding interview (witness d' fitness) and that's about it. Same bi monthly tone that is getting too full of filler. It was getting a lot better about 4 issues ago. Too many pages wasted. The worst was Joel McIver headlining the interview with Geddy Lee, "Feel the Rush".
23. Ring binder reinforcements. Get rid, they look stupid. Stop smoking pot also. Only kidding, you make your bass look like you want it to.
24. Sold a power amp to Rich, which sadly didn't cure his GAS, not suprised, looking at his previous form. He's worse than 6stringbassist. (Sorry Kev). Spoke to him on the dog and gave him some advice, lovely guy.
