  2. Jeez - are you sure? That's massive. Just measured mine and it's 1and 5/8ths " = about 42mm 1.75" would be about 44.5mm (Mine is 1982 JV57P + big Fender logo, ser no.JV 07768) The whole point of this exercise is to try and establish whether the spec for the later Fujigen P's from the late '80's to early 90's was the same as that used for these early JV Squiers.
  3. This is my Squier Vintage Modified five-string Jazz Bass. I bought this a couple of years ago to see if I wanted to change to a five string, but having played a four string bass for the last 50 years I have to accept I’m too old to change now ! I first advertised this on here just before lockdown but now there's possibly a light at the end of the Covid tunnel it's back up for sale. It dates from 2017, is all original and everything works perfectly. Strings were new on when I bought it (Rotosound medium gauge roundwounds) and as it’s only had very light home use they are still very bright. Pickups are loud and clean and there is a huge tone range on the instrument. It's a lot of bass for the money. The scratchplate shown was already fitted when it was purchased. There are a few minor marks and chips on the finish which are shown in the pics, these are cosmetic only and came with the bass when I bought it. Instrument comes with a hard case which is very solid and serviceable. You can arrange for this to be sent to you by courier if you wish, it's in a good solid case so should be fine, your responsibility to arrange this. Preferably the buyer collects from Chichester where I live or you could collect from London.   4. Yes, just make sure that you really do have a stud wall and not 'dot and dab' plasterboard over blockwork - that's where the problems would start...
  5. Thanks hooky_lowdown I can't find the specs for the original '57 bass, only the modern reissue: So if anyone knows whether either this Fender spec or the original Squier JV spec really does match the '57 original that would be handy to know.

  7. Hi all you lovely people. Self explanatory title I hope - I've been looking on the web at all the usual sites but can't find detailed specs for the early Squier JV Precisions - in particular the neck shape/profile and radius. Can anyone help?

(Always say ‘we’ and not ‘I’ – to show it’s what the band thinks collectively, not your personal opinion) · - We’re not sure you’re ready for this yet. · - Your playing’s coming on well, but we’re not sure you can handle this – you’ll be under a lot of pressure. · - It’s obviously going to take up a lot of your time preparing the material – we’re not sure you can really spare the time for this. · - We’re not sure you’re the right fit for this material. · - We’re not sure you’re on the same page as us. · - We’re not sure you have the breadth of experience you’ll need for this. · - You’d certainly fit in well as a person but we’re not sure it would work musically.
  10. Found at last! - a drummer I worked with back in the '70's used to rave about "this japanese drummer with the funk", and had this album. I couldn't recall the name, and now here it is. Naff synth tones. Wahwah guitar. All in all, perfectly groovy! 😎
  11. Aw, that's a shame - that's the exact length from the bridge to the tuner on the Squier, so nothing left to go round the tuner. Thanks for helping.
  12. Sorry, Gunsfreddy, could you do me a favour and measure the length of the G string ?. I reckon that's the one that could be a problem. If it's still long enough for my Squier Jazz 5 I'll buy the set.
  13. Loudest - Level 42 at Portsmouth Guildhall around 1984 Absolutely. crazy. DB's. So loud that I could see that quite a few punters (including myself) had their fingers in their ears after the first few moments and were leaving well before the end - it was beyond painful, possibly deep into permanent hearing damage level. I wasn't even near the front. My ears rang for 3 days afterwards.

  15. I'm sorry, but you've been well and truly shafted here. Shouting and banging your fists might make you feel better but won't change the situation. Yes, have a conversation or respond to the email, but keep it reasonably polite. You never know, It may all go t**ts up with their mate Carl and you can be ready to take his place, or if you've proved you've been reasonable you might get a recommendation for another band at some time in the future. My approach is always to keep it polite and professional, even if in this case they clearly haven't managed this. 😧

  17. Yes, you must go, and if it's a disaster, it was only a few hours out of your life, and you never know, they could be perfectly nice people if a bit.....errrrr.... limited musically. In these situations you'll usually have them sussed out within a few minutes of arrival. It's a thousand and one little tell tale signs, isn't it? For example: People taking ages to set up. Poor choice of songs to try out that don't really reveal much about anyones abilities. Excess noodling, or, conversely, reluctance to play. Excess volume, or, absolutely inaudible. Someone claims to be a singer, and absolutely can't. Someone brings a large amount of alcohol with them and is offended when you decline a drink. Various wives/husbands/partners are hanging around for absolutely no purpose whatsoever. And this is all above and beyond whether they can actually PLAY !!! Good luck.

  19. Yes, this is how it is for me. I think my mental hard drive is just about full. I seem to remember round about the time of Windows '98 that 'defragging' was a thing, to clean up and sort out your hard drive files. Does that even exist as a technique now? Anyway, that's what I feel I need. Not sure I have any space left in my head at all some days
  20. For those who haven't watched the Live in MPLS video (embedded above) all the way through, spare yourself 5 minutes to watch the section starting around 1:20, where he teaches the audience to count in 25/8 time. No kidding, he really does ! 😮 👍
  21. By the way, here's a little tip for those struggling to measure their action (fnaar, fnaar.). Just check it by trying various drill bit sizes. So if a 2mm drill bit just neatly fits between your string and the fret and is touching both, then your action is...... 2mm ! Simple is good.
  22. Interesting topic. I play with what I expect some would consider a very high action - I've just checked on my regular bass and it's 4mm at the 17th. But this helps with eliminating all buzzes and clanks - which very much suits me as I use a lot of ghost and stopped notes, and the last thing you need is any of that business going on - I like a bright clean 'chonky' sound with well defined clear notes or percussive notes. PS - I play with fingers or a pick on a PJ with flats. And a dull thud certainly isn't the result. 🤗
