....call that hard ??? I used to do some Thames riverboat gigs back in the '80's Load on was at Wapping Pier. Parking was in the narrow streets around what was left of the warehouses, and if your van and/or its wheels were still there when you came back then you'd had a good night. Worst thing was when it had been raining, and the tide was out. Then you'd have to take your gear on or off the boat by a slippery gangplank at a 30 - 40 degree angle. I was working in a Peddlers style organ trio so there was a C3 Hammond and a Leslie to manage. Looking back it was bonkers dangerous and I wouldn't contemplate doing it now.

Oh no ! I sense another potential flats vs rounds Basschat family row brewing here! - and just before Christmas too, like all the best family rows.

Mojo, I think a lot of people on Facebook will say they're free just to get the gig, and then they'll worry about minor details such as errr - can they actually play the songs???? later. Your approach is correct of course, but lying and blagging is the norm these days in all fields (see politicians) and thought, consideration and courtesy count for very little. Rant over. PS - I hope you get the gig.

Here's another idea - Ask the seller to tell you a really hard luck story - like how he's going to be evicted from his house unless he pays the overdue rent, and that would mean his family will be out on the streets for Christmas, and you buying his bass is his last hope to raise some money. You get the bass, and you keep a clear conscience. Job done

No! Don't take any chances with dodgy couriers. Collect it from the lounge yourself !

I've never heard of this band before today - that track is simply jaw dropping in its complexity and shape-shifting throughout the song - yet it's also got a massive groove and is absolutely the tightest thing. I've listened to it about 10 times today and I keep discovering more secrets. Good detective work Frank Blank, I'll check this gig out. -

"I really wanted to play your guitar" (tanked up punters)

Ted, you bear an uncanny resemblance to Mad magazine's character, Alfred E. Neuman. Is there something we should know ? -
Which hand are you muting with? Left? Right? Both/either?. If you are left hand muting you could try lifting off the fret a millisecond sooner. This creates an absolutely momentary slight fret buzz and can change your sound substantially in the mids. Then maybe go on to think about your RH hand position or exact amp EQ afterwards. Just another opinion.

Quite right Paul, it was Ruiners comment that should have been quoted there.

Yep, the key word in my sentence which you omitted was potential - meaning that men are naturally on guard (i.e. making sure they don't show weakness) in most social situations - and this could be seen as being socially awkward to an observer.
-
This is the male condition. Men naturally see all other men as potential enemies, whereas women see all other women as potential friends. It's written into our genes. Harsh, but true. 😳 .....err....... have a nice day !

Landscape's bass player was the excellent Andy Pask - obviously not on this track, though. I used to go and see the band when they were unknowns working round the pub circuit in North London around 78 - 79. Andy was a very talented player and a bit ahead of the game. I understand he went on to write the theme tune for 'The Bill' - so that must have been a useful bit of pocket money for a few years 😊

Sounded out for a potential dep gig, and I was pleased that I knew a lot of the band's material (covers). Then asked if I knew 'Can't feel My Face' by the Weeknd. Had to confess I'd never heard of it. BL seemed more than a little surprised at this. Later, a quick search on YouTube and I'm embarrassed to find it has over ONE BILLION views. So obviously I'm becoming an old git. 😨 Still, bass line on this is fun, so should be a good one to run through. 🙂

Very experienced bass dep available, ideal for last minute or short notice cover for Sussex, Hants, Surrey areas. A good musical ear and wide knowledge of many regular function numbers in all styles from '50's to current. Keep a note of this, and maybe I can help you avoid a last minute crisis!

Question: Who gives the best "bass face"?

A great track. I reckon there's three bass tracks on this - first is pretty straight fretless which you can hear on the verse parts and right at the very end where he's noodling about. Then there's two tracks with heavy delay and maybe other treatments on - first is very Pino - ish and quite straightforward, the second is pretty extreme. You can hear places where the bass tracks sit on top of each other - 3.46, 4.57, and 5.50.. That's how I hear it, anyway! Have fun.
