  1. So the pedals serve no purpose? Now that really is for show!!
  2. True. I was using headphones and the PC. Even I wouldn't expect to hear detail through a TV speaker.
  3. Unlined fretless - what do you take me for? :-)
  4. I can agree with the last paragraph. I was watching a David Gilmour show on DVD and plain couldn't hear any difference between all the basses Guy Pratt was using (for more or less every number).
  5. I'm sorry but your last sentence is a bit stupid. I swap between a passive fretted bass and an active fretless because the songs sound better with the slides. I forgot to switch the passive/active switch at a rehearsal once and vowed that I wouldn't do that again and went down a route that forced me to act for each change. You use pedals to change the sound to suit songs, some of us use a different bass.
  6. I'm sure we can squeeze another one out of you.
  7. It seems to me the writing is now on the wall. You thought you had a 'status' within the band that they are demonstrating you don't. I might be inclined to let this go as you (reluctantly) agreed to their using your pa but I would be making a mental note to quit if it's repeated.
  8. I think it was more that it was the first quality 2x15 I had. It was a bit underpowered and so I changed the speakers in it. Originally, I had a 1x18 cab and 2 4x12s (a smaller version of John Deacons rig) but it didn't sound right and was a mountain of stuff to cart around. After the Ampeg 2x15 I bought a Boogie diesel 2x15 (well, two in fact) and have been a rampant Boogie user ever since then (about 1988).
  9. Hearing Queen II when it came out. To be precise, Faerie Fellers Master Stroke ( a track, for those that don't know). From that moment I knew exactly how I wanted to sound. Probably took me 10 years to finally achieve it - when I got my first really good 2x15 (an old Ampeg V4 cab). Stayed with the same basic set up ever since.
  10. I played in a band with a guitarist whom I couldn't stand and who, likewise, couldn't stand me. We were stupidly polite and nice to each other but I imagine he was seething at the mere sight of me as much as his very name would set my teeth on edge. Luckily now play with 3 absolutely top guys and we get on really well. We have a pretty much even gig/curry night ratio!!
  11. Thanks chaps. The B-15 is a great amp but isn't really for gigging in the modern world, These amps do it without breaking a sweat.
  12. I had the Korg Pitch Black but the power lead connection kept breaking which was very annoying. I now have the Behringer which is very good and has a very decent rack light in it.
  13. Maybe someone in Brighton should pay a visit. Alex appears to have gone missing for some time now.
  14. It will certainly be replaced when circumstances change. Really is a B-15 on steroids (and I say that as an ex B-15 owner).
  15. For years I swore by having the cab standing only on its rubber feet. I used to have it taken out of its flightcase to facilitate that. When that case wore out I had a live in case made and had no foam under the feet to carry that on. Eventually, I had no need of flightcases and decided to put some castors on the cab. The result/? No difference that I ever detected. I would suggest that tipping the cab on its side might make an artificial difference because of the change in the dispersion.
  16. 14.8 if you sucked really hard!! :-)
  17. Always liked the vibe of this one, about 30 years ago at the Crypt in Hastings.
  18. Had a bad experience myself a few years ago. I won't give them any of my money ever.
  19. No takers on the fretless Precision and the engine needs to be paid for so next up is my Walkabout combo. There is a very long thread on another bass forum that raves about these in great detail and for good reason. This one is in excellent condition and is a 110v version (complete with a step down transformer). Wonderful valve front end and the passive radiator gives the thing huge depth. It is, of course, not the lightest of combos but it is perfectly transportable and if you want the sound of a flip top on steroids then you will find it a small inconvenience for what you get. As soon as finances have recovered I will be tracking down another one. I wouldn't want to record without it. You are welcome to come down to Portsmouth to try it and I would think collection makes most sense. I am happy to drive to meet up if that's easiest. Price drop to £700.
  20. The same one as in my signature pic. Just use it on special occasions now.
  21. This might look quite good on paper: Played bass with David Gilmour; Been in the charts; Headlined the Isle of Wight Festival All this was done after the age of 30 (to counter the disillusioned youngster earlier on)! Oh, and I killed a man while playing the Birdies Song (did I mention that before?) - rock'n'roll.
