1. I had one for a while. I loved it, but mines died. Cheap fix but it still died. It was also clinically clean so not for everyone. Extremely loud
2. If you can afford to keep it, I would. I have a funny feeling these might be worth a decent wedge in a few years. Mines never sees light of day anymore and normally I sell gear as soon as it's redundant, but I'm keeping this with my fingers 🀞
3. Cheap purchase from eBay, local so i took a punt. Sounds really quite good and plays decently. I think the nut could be doing with a trim down. It's unlined so I don't see me gigging this anytime soon but it's definitely an interesting one to add to the collection! God I really need to decorate!!
4. In my experience some people are just a bit mad and get into things a bit too much. As long as a sensible distance is kept then I'm not sure what the problem is.
5.
I've used the Z-syn too. Seems pretty useful. I actually find the others far too sensitive, being triggered by the slightest touch of the strings, but that could just be me or the bass, of course.
Nope I agree, the others are a pretty uncontrollable in my experience.
6. Zoom r16 maybe? Great wee unit... 8 inputs... Must be pretty cheap these days
7. I use Z-syn as my main synth pedal. ITs limited to what it can do, but it does it brilliantly in my experience. I generally keep the synth side quite low in the mix. i'd about a 80/20 mix just enough to hear the attack of the note (assuming your going for that staccato type synth). For Kids In Americafor the intro bit I'd play up an octave with the synth on and a chorus afterwards, I quite like the Clone chorus on it. Then when the proper bass kicks in id probably just go back to normal and switch the synth off.
8. is it just me or are he frets chocking a bit in that youtube demo?
9. I had the white version as my first decent bass... After a few years I added a trem, took the frets off, and sanded the body down to natural wood. What a monstrosity haha. Ive been looking for another one though for memories sake. Great bass!

Daft Question
and lots of engineers insist on placing their DI in front of your pedals. Resist this as you lose all your effects in the FOH this way.
I've never been xperienced that before! Very odd! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
11. Mate that is lovely. One day I will own a Dingwall
12. If it's anything like the vintage jazz I had, it'll be a very playable bass indeed. Just watch out for weight though, my hb was the heaviest bass I've ever owned! And a big neck.
13. I had one briefly. Did the job nicely. I only got rid as it was a bit Rawk for my taste, but that's not the pedals fault, that was my error for getting the wrong pedal.
14.
I have a Spector Legend 6 if you are interested?
I'd assume youre talking top limit.? What's the neck like?
15.
I have the ibanez that BaconCheese mentioned. Its my first 6er, its very comfortable and light, its a joy to play. Not a massively versatile pre amp, but it just so happens that the sound it does make is kind of the one i like. Would recommend.
It'll be likely what I go for in the end bit it's good to hear another opinion on it
16.
S/h Aria pro 11 six string. Cheap, reliable, sound good and easy to play with a 34" scale and 17mm at the bridge
Doesn't seem to be to many about but I'll certainly keep an eye out
17. I'm thinking about going back to a 6 string. I had an Ibanez one for a while as my main bass but got rid as it it didn't really fit the image of the band I was in at the time. So what is worth checking out? I'm not a brand snob at all. I'd prefer a thin and small neck. Dont mind it having a small string width. And I don't want a pointy body. But apart from that I'm easy... what have you all got?
18. Bear in mind too, when you listen to the classic tunes, the bass sound is produced exactly for the track. You'll not be able to sound like the Ox then Flea within a song or two. Aslong as you have the feel, then you will! Sound good.
19. Not sure why oasis get such a hard time. People love them and will go nuts for a tune. I'm doing a dep next week playing a little mix tune ffs! Does it bother me? No. Because if the punters have fun , then I'll enjoy myself!
20.
After reading thru this thread and having just joined a newly formed function band starting from scratch i thought i would take the most popular songs from here and put on one list. It made for a pretty fantastic set list. What do you think Maggie May – Rod Stewart Long Train Running – Doobies Sex On Fire – Kings of Leon Play That Funky Music – Wild Cherry You Shook Me Al Night Long – AC/DC Honky Tonk Woman – The Stones Dancing with Myself – Billy Idol Sit Down – James Pinball Wizard – The Who Living Thing – ELO Jean Genie – Bowie Heroes – Bowie Get It On – T.Rex Blockbuster – Sweet Brown Eyed Girl – Van Morrison Summer of 69 – Bryan Adams Dakota – Stereophonics Everybody Needs Somebody – The Blues Brothers Love Really Hurts – Billy Ocean Saturday Nights Alright for Fighting – Elton John Crocodile Rock – Elton John Sweet Home Alabama - Lynard Skynard Valerie – Amy Winehouse Alright Now – Free I Shot the Sheriff – Eric Clapton All My Loving – Beatles 39 – Queen Message In A Bottle – The Police Don’t Stop Believing - Journey
I agree, this set played well would go down a treat at your bog standard gig! Laid by James goes down well if you're playing to the right generation. Dunno if it's the same outside Scotland but Dignity by deacon blue always gets a sing along going!
21. I'd be doing a stake out. Unbelievable luck by the way! Great news!
22. I've literally spent this afternoon learning 30 odd tunes for a wedding dep next weekend. On top of that alot of the the other ones I already knew are in odd keys. Fun! 😢 the first dance is a bloody masterpiece on bass too.
23.
Over time, I've tried to stop fretting about it. Particularly in a live situation. Yesterday I payed at a festival with an active Precision through a Trace Elloitt combo. I didn't like the tone I was hearing on stage at all, but the people out front said it sounded just dandy.
This is me. As long as it's a usable tone then I'm happy. The days of me endlessly knob twiddling at a gig are way gone. I have my zoom ms60b set as a preamp and I try to di before I got whatever amp I'm playing through. I literally never touch the settings on it. And then I just set the amp flat. I'm ready to play within 30 seconds of being on stage.
24. There's a peach of a solo on an n sync tune from a few years ago... 'larger than life' I'm sure its called.
