1.
To the best of my recollection we only ever heard about one failure at a gig and that was 'only' the DI out but that was enough for me
I don't think I'd write off a full company due to this. From memory, I've had Hartke, ashdown, ampeg and behringer amps all fail on me so I think amps in general can be a bit temperamental.
2. I've got the carvin mb10. I'm frankly astonished at it against a full on drummer. Plus it sounds tremendous. So far I've only used it with pa support though but the amp certainly didn't get swamped over. The reason i went for this amp over other options is that you can connect an ext cab to get more power, so my plan is to build a matching 1x10 for those gigs i need more air pushed. From the short time I've owned it I'd definitely recommend it. Talkbass do have bigger love for the other models in the range though.
3. I 0nce had a string tuned a semi tone out. Mates in The crowd were telling me this but I blamed it on others because my tuner was saying I was fine. After a few songs I then realised there was a wee dot next to the D on the runer which means D#. I still get shivers thinking about That! Such a daft mistake
4. That album is probably my biggest influence in my playing. Rhcp are far from my favourite band, and flea is nowhere near my favourite player but that album was good enough, but achievable when i first tried to learn it. To me, under the bridge is just the 'pop' song off it. Just like 'More than words' off pornograffiti, or to be with you by Mr big.
5.
Hartke sale on PMT that was posted somewhere on this thread £199 for a LH500 head. - head and cab for about £350. Worth a look
Op mentioned he wanted a mid-type sound so I don't think this would work for him. Although I loved mine, and that would be a great set-up for 350 cabbage.
6. record your playing with and without the FI, we might be able to tell if its the actual unit or maybe your playing? As others have said, these types of pedals take a bit to get used to and you cant play what you would normally play. its a skill, might just be a matter of practicing.
7.
Believe it or not, this is the main reason I wanted to do it
This for me too. I've only recently using a credit card as a mortgage company see the difference between a very good credit rating and a too credit rating. As long as your not going takes years to pay it back then it's worth I'd tempted to get something that I would probably never get normally! What's the worst that will happen? You well sell it a few months down the line for a few quid less? No biggie
8.
Yes, hopefully that last picture shows the contouring. It's vaguely axe shaped in cross section. Not seen a Jazz in the flesh but I suspect the contouring is the same. Light and very comfortable.
It looks identical! If this is the p version of my j, then it's a lovely and light instrument!
9.
Can't tell from the images - is this a slab body or pared down and shaped like the Aerodyne Jazz is?
Last pic shows it quite clearly.
10. Get some footage up on here! I think we'd all love to get a sniff of your pocket! Have fun!
11. Must say.. that does look quite appealing. More money though. In fact twice as much.. I sold my 2nd hand lm250 for 155 quid. But if money isn't an issue then I'd certainly be keen on that!
12. Just recently had this quandary. I ended up getting a carvin mb10. 200 quid 2nd hand. But I went this way as on its own is perfect for home and general jam use. But adding an ext cabinet (whilst still using the internal speaker) will make it a perfectly good gigging rig. Best of both worlds. Sounds great too!
13.
On this topic, does anyone feel cab simulation is an important consideration when DIing without a rig? Thinking of my own impending IEM setup...
Personally... if using effects then I'd say it's important. Although not all preamps are the same. Fuzz and distortion can sound harsh. I've mainly stuck to digital (ie multifx) preamp for this reason as they tend tobyqve more control over how much 'cab SIM ' is comibg through.
14. Lm250 is very decent. Had one Up until last week. Plenty control, it won't get you a 'hifi' type sound but based on your post I doubt you'd require it. Good solid tone. And more than loud enough for almost all normal use.
15. Ron thal. In fact, I'd hazard a guess that a good few of the virtueso guitarists out there can easily hold their own on bass. My mate wrote and recorded his own metal album. He's a Great guitarist but he also done the bass... and it sounds great! I think metal guitarist techniques would transfer quite easily into a bass.
16. Cheers guys, you've basically confirmed my own thoughts. Apart from cost (ie free) i don't think there's any benefit going mdf. It was a silly notion! 😂
17. Oh... and if I did use ply, would 15mm be sufficient?
18. I've now got round to building a wee 1x10 cabinet. I've got access to mad for free. Would I be stupid to using it? Or should I just go get some nice ply?
19. Bought from our very own walbassist, i took delivery today of this wee bad boy. Not gigging at the moment and having a 1 bedroom flat dont mix too well if you want to have a lot of gear. So my thoughts were to selling all and consolidate. This (along with a 1x10 cab which has yet to be decided on) was the solution. This on its own is small and tidy enough to keep in the flat, it has everything you want from a practice amp, but will also double as my main gigging amp when connected to a 2nd cab. It's rated on its own at 200w and 250w with extension cab. But as we all know it's not just the increase in watts... It's about the increase in speaker area. I've only just been able to crank it slightly but it seems to have a decent amount of balls on its own. Thhe compressor is a bit rubbish and the adjustable tweeter will almost certainly be constantly switched off but the EQ seems pretty powerful. The low mid and high mid points are sweepable so should be able to find a sweet point. There's a knob named 'contour' which allows to get a right good scooped 'slap' type tone, which sounds pretty nice , but i would imagine this will need to be dialed down when playing with others. Absolutely brilliant build quality, i must say. It's also small and light enough to carry (like a briefcase) so making it a 'one trip from car' load in. Obviously it's now all down to how loud does it go in a band setting. I'll be realistic and say i doubt that on its own it'll stand up, but fingers crossed it'll work nicely as a stage Monitor or a decent mini rig when coupled with a extension cab!
20. Bought a carvin mb10 bass amp from gareth. Great deal, fast delivery and well packaged. Great guy to deal with. Cheers Fraser
21.
Hmmm. Well I just found this panorama from their FB page. And if you pan around to the back, you can see a drawer full of effects (most notably dual POG-2's) just sticking out from behind the cabs... DAMN! I wish he wasn't so secretive about his setup!!!
Are you him by any chance? 😀😀
22. I'm an '82 dude, but for fender I don't think that Was a good period. Maybe a Tokai or yamaha would be better.
23. My mate leviclay.com will do it for a small fee.
24. Pronto mama - any joy. Well worth a Spotify check out. My favourite Glasgow band.
25. Some quite nice 1st basses here! My first bass was a no name P bass copy. It was pretty attrocious so I'm surprised i stuck with it. I gave that away (to a girl) and never saw it again.. and i wouldn't care to seeing again. However my 2nd bass was a Yamaha bbn4 which was great. For some reason i ended upon sticking a trem on it. Them i defretted it... Then sold it on eBay for 70 quid. I would love that one back! Anyone on here got it?
