Daft Question
and lots of engineers insist on placing their DI in front of your pedals. Resist this as you lose all your effects in the FOH this way.
I've never been xperienced that before! Very odd! 😂😂
2. Mate that is lovely. One day I will own a Dingwall
3. If it's anything like the vintage jazz I had, it'll be a very playable bass indeed. Just watch out for weight though, my hb was the heaviest bass I've ever owned! And a big neck.
4. I had one briefly. Did the job nicely. I only got rid as it was a bit Rawk for my taste, but that's not the pedals fault, that was my error for getting the wrong pedal.
5.
I have a Spector Legend 6 if you are interested?
I'd assume youre talking top limit.? What's the neck like?
6.
I have the ibanez that BaconCheese mentioned. Its my first 6er, its very comfortable and light, its a joy to play. Not a massively versatile pre amp, but it just so happens that the sound it does make is kind of the one i like. Would recommend.
It'll be likely what I go for in the end bit it's good to hear another opinion on it
7.
S/h Aria pro 11 six string. Cheap, reliable, sound good and easy to play with a 34" scale and 17mm at the bridge
Doesn't seem to be to many about but I'll certainly keep an eye out
8. I'm thinking about going back to a 6 string. I had an Ibanez one for a while as my main bass but got rid as it it didn't really fit the image of the band I was in at the time. So what is worth checking out? I'm not a brand snob at all. I'd prefer a thin and small neck. Dont mind it having a small string width. And I don't want a pointy body. But apart from that I'm easy... what have you all got?
9. Bear in mind too, when you listen to the classic tunes, the bass sound is produced exactly for the track. You'll not be able to sound like the Ox then Flea within a song or two. Aslong as you have the feel, then you will! Sound good.
10. Not sure why oasis get such a hard time. People love them and will go nuts for a tune. I'm doing a dep next week playing a little mix tune ffs! Does it bother me? No. Because if the punters have fun , then I'll enjoy myself!
11.
After reading thru this thread and having just joined a newly formed function band starting from scratch i thought i would take the most popular songs from here and put on one list. It made for a pretty fantastic set list. What do you think Maggie May – Rod Stewart Long Train Running – Doobies Sex On Fire – Kings of Leon Play That Funky Music – Wild Cherry You Shook Me Al Night Long – AC/DC Honky Tonk Woman – The Stones Dancing with Myself – Billy Idol Sit Down – James Pinball Wizard – The Who Living Thing – ELO Jean Genie – Bowie Heroes – Bowie Get It On – T.Rex Blockbuster – Sweet Brown Eyed Girl – Van Morrison Summer of 69 – Bryan Adams Dakota – Stereophonics Everybody Needs Somebody – The Blues Brothers Love Really Hurts – Billy Ocean Saturday Nights Alright for Fighting – Elton John Crocodile Rock – Elton John Sweet Home Alabama - Lynard Skynard Valerie – Amy Winehouse Alright Now – Free I Shot the Sheriff – Eric Clapton All My Loving – Beatles 39 – Queen Message In A Bottle – The Police Don’t Stop Believing - Journey
I agree, this set played well would go down a treat at your bog standard gig! Laid by James goes down well if you're playing to the right generation. Dunno if it's the same outside Scotland but Dignity by deacon blue always gets a sing along going!
12. I'd be doing a stake out. Unbelievable luck by the way! Great news!
13. I've literally spent this afternoon learning 30 odd tunes for a wedding dep next weekend. On top of that alot of the the other ones I already knew are in odd keys. Fun! 😶 the first dance is a bloody masterpiece on bass too.
14.
Over time, I've tried to stop fretting about it. Particularly in a live situation. Yesterday I payed at a festival with an active Precision through a Trace Elloitt combo. I didn't like the tone I was hearing on stage at all, but the people out front said it sounded just dandy.
This is me. As long as it's a usable tone then I'm happy. The days of me endlessly knob twiddling at a gig are way gone. I have my zoom ms60b set as a preamp and I try to di before I got whatever amp I'm playing through. I literally never touch the settings on it. And then I just set the amp flat. I'm ready to play within 30 seconds of being on stage.
15. There's a peach of a solo on an n sync tune from a few years ago... 'larger than life' I'm sure its called.
16. Anyone had a go at the 5 string?
17. Done a few medium size weddings with this as an onstage monitor. But the wee thing fairly belts out! Still not got an ext cab but that's not a priority. Sound wise it's lovely and the eq is powerful. Overall I'm delighted!
18. Ed sheeran tune will go down well plus it'll be bloody easy. That castle one goes down sooo well. Locked out of heaven by Bruno mars can be rocked up pretty nicely.. but can also be really funky. Great sing along.
19. Tonally there's a difference on you tube. For almost all applications all 3 of those times would be fine. However it would be interesting to get his thoughts on how they feel to play. Thats the biscuit I'd like to see him munch.
20.
Indeed, I think most folks that think Royal Blood "needs a guitar player" are listening with their eyes, and with the foreknowledge that it's just one dude with a bass up there.
I get what you're saying... and don't get me wrong, I like what they do.. but how he plays bass limits the sound. Personally I think the songs and riffs are being held back by their self chosen limitations! But opinions are like left testicles. Everyone's got one. Apart from women and one balled men.
21. I think if they want longevity then they might need to think about dropping the bass does guitar routine. I know that's their 'thing' however it's going to sound samey after a while. 1st albums decent but it certainly didn't get played to death on my cd player! If the 2nd album is more of yhe same then I would imagine interest will start dropping pretty quickly! They've got decent songs though so I honestly think they would have more appeal at album 3 if they got a keyboard or guitarist in. The fanboy purists will disagree with me no doubt!
22. I had their natural body jazz copy for a while. Astonishing bass . But it was just too heavy and I simply didn't need as many basses at The time. Does this feel a bit on the heavy side?
23.
I'm a huge fan of slap and Chic but what Jerry Barnes does is just too much...Chic is all about cool grooves and the sparse lick every now and then and Barnes is all about show off and overplaying. Bernard's tone was a huge part of the Chic sound and that sort of treble didn't fit the smoothness of their music. I thought Barnes was horrible, slapping too much, slides in every song and making it a sort of slap contest what Chic is not about imo. The worst thing is that though his slap sound was great his timing wasn't....everytime he went solo his fills were sloppy. A bunch of slap cliches (octaves anyone ?) and I just got tired of it...my foot went crazy during the Barry Gibb set, it stopped during Chic. The presenters were raving about Barnes which proves that when you do something loud and many times people get impressed... I don't see what Rodgers sees in him after the pure class of Edwards
It just proves that two set of ears can hear to entirely different things. I would say the complete opposite to this. 😂
24. That first song he did, played with a band, is an absolute stonker of a tune. one man and a guitar has its limits imo.
25.
Yeah me too, if I'm going to be playing that section of the song again I'll incorporate the "wrong" note as a passing note or something just in case any smart arse had a suspicion I make a mistake.
I do this exact thing!! 😅😅 It should be in the manual of bass playing.
