4. Although I couldn't afford it, I am well envious of you guys living in London! It's all happening down there, loads to see and do...masses of music shops, venues and gigs.... I love Edinburgh, it is a fantastic city but would love to be around real hustle and bustle. andy
  5.
Better tone and swings better (which is, after all, the point). NHOP is flash, has poor taste and sounds really nasal to me. I fully accept the 'best is subjective' argument and know perfectly well that Jeff Berlin couldn't do what Lemmy does without a serious change of perspective but, if you take the full range of skills; technique, musicality, groove potential, tone etc. it is defensible to suggest that someone like Will Lee is probably more likely to be able to fill the shoes of Paolo Gregoletto (Trivium) than Gregoletto is to fill Lee's shoes on the Letterman sow. That doesn't diminish the contribution that each individual makes to the music they play but it would let you argue that he is 'better' as in 'more skilled/more rounded' as a player. The truth is, it's all completely irrelevant unless you are a producer looking for a session player, then knowing whose is the best man for the job is your bread and butter
I think it is great being the best you can be while having an arsenal capable of doing anything...however the best of it for me is striving to find your own identity when playing. being an individual, doing something different or taking the bass to another place is the most difficult task asked of any player of which, very few, possibly one or two have achieved/attained. and, by the way what a great topic! andy
  6.
Billy Sheehan hasn't played the same since he evicted all his body thetans.
believe me billy still has his soul but...if he has evicted his scientific soul then that is news to me!? andy
  7.
i think he should be on the BC top ten
I wholeheartedly agree! as long as you mean in the top 10 not on it!

  9.
is it just me that can't see that name up there?
what names that then? ps, still waiting on an explanation re your earlier post.
  10.
Good point... Though the notion of a 'full basket of skills' does seem odd in the context of being a bass player.. Isn't it as important or relevant to be a specialist with a finely honed talent in one particular area of music or bass playing styles, as opposed to being a bass playing 'jack of all trades'?
being an individual?
  11.
billy sheehan....?
??

  15. hi and welcome, bummer! £900 will buy you almost anything...go try one of the new yamaha attitude's, made in Japan and utterly gorgeous! link: http://www.thomann.de/gb/yamaha_attitude_ii_lr.htm andy

    Decisons...

squiers are very nice, particularly the vm's but...for what my opinion is worth and of course, being biased, yamaha make superb basses. the bb series are far better than the vm's - yamaha's build quality is staggering and again, for me, unsurpassed both in construction materials and electronics used. quality control system is superb!
  17. I had one, totally concur with the build quality, however...pups are nonsense! they started squealing with feedback when I turned my amp up!! horrible, horrible sound from them. lovely to play though and as i said nice build.
