2. And then, some more.... Yamaha BB714BS Billy Sheehan Signature Bass Billy Sheehan occupies an enviable position as one of the most respected rock bassists on the planet. Voted ‘Best Rock Bass Player’ 5 times by the US magazine ‘Guitar Player’ (an accolade that places him in their ‘Gallery of Greats’ alongside Jimi Hendrix, Paul McCartney and Eddie Van Halen), his CV covers acts including David Lee Roth, Mr Big and recent tours with the Steve Vai and Joe Satriani guitarist supergroup, G3. For most of these gigs, Billy has depended on his Yamaha Attitude bass – designed with Yamaha’s Hollywood custom shop to be the ultimate rock bass. For 2008, Billy Sheehan and Yamaha have worked together to create an all-new bass to sit alongside the flagship Attitude. This bass is the BB714BS. BB714BS features the classic Yamaha BB body shape from the latest BB400 and BB600 models with a few of Billy’s personal features. These include Billy’s signature pickup configuration of split coil and neck woofer pickup, new control layout (main pu volume, woofer pu volume, master tone), woofer hi-cut switch, solid brass bridge, black chrome hardware and a choice of classic black or Billy’s new custom-mixed Lava Red finishes. In addition to the custom spec, each BB714BS ships with an exclusive DVD featuring an interview with Billy about both the Attitude and new BB basses and a tour of Yamaha’s Hollywood custom shop. Yamaha Guitar Product Manager, Julian Ward, comments: “Billy’s a great player and a fantastic ambassador but he’s also a huge asset when it comes to developing new basses. He’s totally focused on producing the best possible instruments - the Attitude bass is proof of that - so when we began discussing a new signature model and he said that he wanted to make a bass that would open his choice of features up to a wider audience, we were pretty excited. He played BBs back in the 80s and loved the new models so it was the ideal choice as a platform for the new bass. In the BB714 we’ve added Billy’s chosen specifications to the BB design to make it the perfect way to get into his sound. It gets the fully Billy Sheehan seal of approval and he’s been involved throughout the design process - it’s great to be producing another signature model that’s more than just a name on a headstock, something the artist’s truly happy with.” The BB714BS is available from June 2008 with a target RRP of £549. 3. Not sure. Yamaha does have a custom shop/workshop/small production line/showroom in California where billy gets a lot of his stuff sorted and this might explain the wait? The photos show this shop/showroom. I did think it would be cheaper but rrp is £569, thomann will do it for £449 ex delivery. andy ps: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea...iendid=70687377

 5. funnily enough...the bb3000 billy used did have a bridge pup, link: http://www.billysheehan.com/gear/instruments_12.html but he removed this, the active electronics and fitted the model one at the front. adny
 6.
Classic BB's rock, but the pickup there just makes me think it's some homebrewed experiment, looks wrong to me .
what a huge sound though!
 7. incredibly excited! to the point of...... nah, wont say that! lol! got a 3 - 6 month wait on it though but if its here between now and Christmas?? ohyeah! like the look of the new black pups on the black attitude in the background. andy

 10. in arnies voice... i want you're money....i will have your're money!
 11.
Hey Andy, do you still have the P pickguard?
hi overwater, sorry for the extremely late response - I actually did not see this post! yes I do. andy
 12.
Probably my Ibanez Blazer that I flogged to a guy at work years and years ago. Natural finish with black pickguard. Very similar to one someone was selling here recently (but without the upgrades obviously). Still looked gorgeous and played great. Doh!
my candy apple red Ibanez blazer! traded it into soundcontrol for a cheapo washburn!! <feckinstupidtitknobfannysmiley>
 13.
If I had: a. the arms b. the money c. the storage space, and d. the musical need I'd buy them. But I don't. For anyone seriously considering this (really? are your SURE?), I bought a V-Type head off this dude a few years back, he drove down from Derbyshire to Gatwick and met me to hand it over, for the princely sum of £10. Good guy, very interesting stories!
you bought a v-type head for £10? what one? andy
 14. you could do that yourself josh, not a difficult task unless you are me and crap at woodwork! lol andy
 15. I think there is probably something in a Fender everyone likes? However, it may not fit properly or have the sound scope your are trying to achieve.
 16. definitely in the rock context! Am i suggesting it is a on trick pony? maybe? anyone use an attitude bass for other music styles? former band members have used Vai's Ibanez Universe and Gem while my buddy at work has a Steve Morse sig. Musicman guitar which is real sweet. andy
 17.
Good grief, you're lucky you didn't decapitate someone! There's an interesting thought. If a chicken can run around for 10 seconds after you've chopped it's head off, how long do you reckon a drummer can maintain the beat under the same circumstances?
would have to ask: can the drummer keep time/beat in the first place??
 18.
As I said before, I can respect the amount of influence he has gotten from Sheehan but ultimatley he has very little originality about him. Send in the clones. Though I've always wondered if an Atittude is a good all around bass, as I've always loved the look, what say you Andy??
This will be predictable! I absolutely love the attitude bass so much so I would recommend it to any pbass player! I have played mostly pbasses but always found them to be lacking in real whooomfff. I had the pleasure of playing a telebass and then an eb3, both had the whooomff factor but not the definition I wanted! When I played my first attitude (cheaper special edition) it felt right in terms of sound and feel! I saved enough to buy a signature model it surpassed my expectations and has been a wonderful instrument to play as well as feeling right at home with me and my chubby body shape! lol! andy
 19. +1 to all of the above! definitely worth over the odds - I have played one similar to this, it was the best damn ray I've ever played! The birdsey maple neck with that finish is truly gorgeous and plays so well! well done. andy
 20. I feel honoured to have my hero sign my bass. It's also great, that in this day and age a legend would take the time to do this and send such a nice sentiment - not many do! I've mailed billy a few times over the years and had a response/discussion on many occasions. He loeves to talk bass, more significantly the attitude series, and really, really loves feedback on his solo stuff - positive or negative! I had a discussion with him over the split of Mr Big and the last album. I said the last album was souless and lacking fire and passion he and paul gilbert displayed when playing. Billy agreed and said this was the worst mr big album and he hated it.
 21. is there? will have to track it down. cheers andy
 22. around the £500 mark is a good price for these - I wouldn't let mine go for any less! andy
 23.
I've still got the advanced techniques DVD and still watch it time to time, as it did help a good deal to set me on the right tracks, both soundwise (Compression etc...) and technique wise. I tried the 3 finger approach after heavily modding my P'Up positioning on my old bass to match his, and it resulted in just being a case of not feeling natural and really found that wasn't right for me and started to take a back seat and become more associated with the groove. I still use ome of those exercises still, just with 2 fingers instead and has really helped to no end. Ummm I think it's Danny Growl, I can respect he has learnt a great deal from Billy but in the end he just sounds and looks like a copy to every extent so to me he looses his appeal as an original player.
Danny Growl, thats it! same as me, the exercises and generalities help fine tune your own motor skills.
 24.
you guys dont know when to stop, do you? let. him. sell. his. bass. .
aye ok! read your post fully this time!
