ashdown mag 300 head vs ashdown abm 300 head
andy67 replied to Motocross_nick's topic in Amps and Cabs
oh there is a difference in the drivers used between the mag and abm range of cabs (yeah i know you are looking at the head but...) the abm seem to have a slightly better(?) cone, the outer ring is thicker and the inner voice coil dome is bigger what the exact tech differences are i dont know but both are very decent.
I phoned ashdown re this, they told me there was no difference in the speakers - catagorically! so who was i to argue with the very nice lady on the other end of the phone? I seem to have problems tracking down who makes blueline speakers...I was told it is celestion and that would back up her argument as they are made in China along with the mag stuff but...I did catch a web link that said they were made by an Italian company - cant remember who - got to the website no proof... -
hmmm, sounds good! there seems to be quite a groundswell for ol' rockers returning!?

ashdown mag 300 head vs ashdown abm 300 head
andy67 replied to Motocross_nick's topic in Amps and Cabs
I prefer the ABM, only just though but I think its more to do with being made in the UK! I know the newer ones are being made in China. Both definitely have the Ashdown sound and sound great in their own right. The mag cabs are great value for money particularly the 810deep. -

Chris is a sound guy and great to do business with. cheers andy

rumour6 has a white 5 string t-bass, they are worth £600 at least in my opinion! exceptional bass with great tone and very versatile. andy

does make sense - in a nonsensical kind of way lol. my college tutor played a through neck late seventies early eighties sattelite p/j bass, from a kays catalogue, through a trace blx 80 and it sounded superb. he did though have a stunning technique which leads to to believe that playing is all in the hands not the instrument or amp.

as above worthwhile keeping an eye on! link: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Yamaha-Billy-Sheehan...4QQcmdZViewItem I wouldn't bid on this early though, my womens instinct is telling me that the seller will employ shady bidding practice! postage price is horrendous - but would mail him stating a courier will pick it up if won. I might bid in the last couple of seconds, realistically it should go for around £500. andy

defo a snob! hate dead string as well! made in Mexico or China doesn't work for me! basses that is! So sorry for being a snob...It took me nearly 30 years to find a bass which works for me in terms of tone, feel and playability! anyhoo its easy being a gear snob when you are a lazy rubbish player like me! lol.

My yamaha trb5 has since been retired, 10 years of gigging made me think it was due some down time! I have two yamaha attitudes mkI & II of which I use the mkI as my main bass. I am in the process of building a bass - have been for 16months - it was a 40th birthday project and will finish it when I get the time too. I am going to buy two basses in the next year: the new yamaha attitude mk3 the new yamaha bb714 making a total of six. the others will remain as they hold sentimental value to me. andy

A few years back I was watching a documentary/rockumentary on the Who. Part of this interview was a one on one with John discussing his playing style and technique, he demonstrated how he played and explained why he played like this...it was awesome! Just him his bass and a practice amp, the sound was great the technique was...well only his and the inspiration I got from it was tremendous. Wish the producers had elaborated on this as I could have watched this for hours instead of a few minutes.. andy
Rigggghhttt... where to start. I have a Markbass CMD 102p, which I do love, but just not finding it 'right'. I play mainly a passive Fender jazz 75 RI, and seem to just not get enough 'meat' out of it! P-T-P, wants it and has a sale pending, I wanted that GK lightweight rig in the for sale forum, but its just too far away. Newcastle, and its collection only!! Which I can understand from his point of view, although I did even offer to sort out all courier arrangements and send all the packaging to him!!! owell. I am loving the 700 and 1001 RB heads, and im quite tempted to get one, or bass ferrits hd 350... I also was looking at the Ampeg 410hlf on the forum, but it sjust sooo heavy! The other option was the Warwick 410 pro on there... anyone familiar with these? I just need a bit of help... going to be spending £600 - 700... Paul
right! before you go mad...I have never known a jazz to give ample 'meat'! try another bass first. secondly ampeg b-410hlf is cracking value at the moment and it produces great amounts of bottom end. I just bought a b-115e cab at £269 from SC, I'm astonished at the bottom end on this and the sound it produces! check out - value for money wise - B-410he, b-410hlf and b-115e cabs. The b-cabs arn't too heavy and fit easily into standard cars. I am though very ampeg biased!! link to picture of my gear: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=18247 have fun andy
As a man who's currently trading in his gigging rig for a pre/power rack I can offer the following: Eden most definitely do offer a preamp. Its the WLP-100. And it kicks ass. Its very flexible and has a compressor built in. I'm attempting to pick up the Ampeg SVP preamp as well. Ampeg have offered a number of preamps over the years although most are only 2nd hand these days. Sticking my neck out there's: SVP-Pro - preamp section of the SVT-II, III, IV SVP-IIP - Preamp section of SVT-II SVP-Classic - Preamp section of the SVT-Classic SVP-BS - Billy Sheehan signature No on-board compressor though.
I recently bought Billy Sheehan's advanced bass book/dvd, he was explaining his rig and the individual components it comprises of. The SVP-BSP was stunning! Plenty of control and fine tuning options. I may get one eventually...
