Trace Elliot AH300-SMX power amp exhibiting odd behaviour..
MoonBassAlpha replied to VTypeV4's topic in Repairs and Technical
@VTypeV4 I'd check your speaker cables very carefully for shorts, and damage along their length. The fuses were almost certainly blown by a short. If the cables check out, have a peer inside the cab in case there's something loose. If the cab has a crossover, that's the first place I'd look for dry joints or charred components . Hope that helps. -
Was it anodised after the lovely engine turning on the front?

Anyone tried filling the slots with CA glue? My wife suggested something with glitter added, which maybe isn't as ridiculous as it sounds!

@Owen I think I repaired a 58 a couple of years ago, I honestly can't remember what the fault was ( an age thing!). I've also repaired 4 RedV dynamic drum mics where the wire to the capsules were fractured. I'm more than happy to have a look for you if you're at all local to Oxfordshire (Didcot) Cheers Jules

Just finished the neck conversion on my lacewood U S. Masters bass. Nice to have 24 frets on a shortie. The neck was an unfinished 70 quid jobbie from ebay, I think the board is pao ferro though it was sold as rosewood, but I'm happy as the original neck has a pao ferro board. Here's a picture next to the Mustang for comparison. I only had to move the bridge back by 15mm for intonation. Eventually I'll be defretting it, but having just fettled the frets I think I'll play as is for a bit after all that effort! Finished neck and fretboard in tru-oil, just 3 coats for a minimal satin sheen. -

Cool, thanks. I might over again slightly diluted and see if it comes out less tacky. -
95% Tru oil finished guitar - A How to Guide

I'm currently doing a maple neck with Tru-Oil, newly opened bottle, which I'm finding is going on rather sticky, and drying with a very slight tack even after a day or two in a warm conservatory. I'm wondering if a small dilution with white spirits would help it dry quicker and less tacky? Any thoughts welcome, cheers. -
I asked a question about using tru-oil on a fretless in a different thread. Do you intend finishing the surface with anything? I have a strong suspicion my u.s. masters fretless used this.

Owen has a problem with his neck

@Andyjr1515Is the fretboard pao ferro on these? -
I have 2 fretless necks for my u.s. Masters bass which show minimal wear after many years wearing roundwound strings. The boards are pao ferro and impregnated with something. The necks have a nice satin feel and I'm sure I remembered it being Tru-Oil, and I'm wondering if the fingerboard finish is the same. Has anyone used Tru-Oil on a fingerboard? I've nearly finished a short scale replacement neck for one and thinking it might be worth a try.

Thanks for that, an interesting read! Appreciated.

Anyone used one for recording bass yet? Got one incoming in May, I'd be interested in your thoughts, cheers!

@kodiakblair thanks matey, that looks just the ticket!

Out of interest, where did you find a 30" scale 24 fret neck?
-
Probably electrolytic capacitors on the preamp power supply not working correctly. If they are largeish, sometimes the vibration can fracture the solder around one of the pins too.

Is This Price for Making A Neck Reasonable?
MoonBassAlpha replied to Obrienp's topic in Repairs and Technical
Looking at it, I think you could fit a 32" 20 fret neck and move the bridge back 3/4" and have it intonate ok with the travel on those saddles. I know you said you weren't keen, but it's doable, if you can source a neck! -

MoonBassAlpha replied to Obrienp's topic in Repairs and Technical
I'm looking for a medium scale fretless neck that I can use as a 24fret short scale for my current fretless. It should work, as my bass has an unusual neck attachment. I would think that's about right for a bespoke neck. Unfortunately -
