Thanks Douglas, I always used to be able to make the posts look like that but recently they don't, and I'm not sure why. I think I'm copying the link the same way I've always done, but who knows? Also, I couldn't for the life of me get the image not to present rotated. I hope folks still get it

https://on.soundcloud.com/C4E1c BassChat December cover challenge 2023 I've chosen the Kula Shaker tune Start All Over from their "K" album, as it's got a Beatles - like vibe, and I thought my friend Rob would enjoy singing it (massive Beatles fan) With invaluable input from Phil Beavis (organ) and Paul Ibbott (Horn section), the guitar, bass, backing vocals and drums are me. Tried to keep this fairly close to the original this time, subject to my own limitations!

I've got one in the works, but I went down with a rotten throat infection before I could finish the backing vocals, and my singer has had the same. Also waiting for someone to add the finishing touches with some horns. Going for an accurate ish version this year, not an alternative arrangement like usual. It will be Start All Over by Kula Shaker

Ashdown ctm15 loud hum, no signal

Now, if I could just find the thread that mentions a component change that stops the Treble boost when you turn up the gain. It was years ago though... -
Ashdown ctm15 loud hum, no signal
MoonBassAlpha replied to MoonBassAlpha's topic in Repairs and Technical
Update, I sent a request for schematics last Sunday, got a reply Monday morning 9.45 from Dave Green enclosing schematics and layout, and a few words more or less confirming my diagnosis, and advising on a preventative upgrade. The preamp has a split +/- 5V supply, the negative was shorted to ground, turns out to be the filter capacitor failed short. I was advised to upgrade all the 1000ųF 16V caps on the preamp supplies to 25V as these had failed before "and not just on this product " Duly bought and replaced (and the little regulators) and the amp is running perfectly again. The humming sound I'd always assumed was inherent in the design is also massively reduced, so I think this cap was on the way out since I acquired the amp (second hand). Kudos again to the Ashdown customer support, they have been excellent, as many others here have noted. -

Thanks for that. If the lad grows out of it...

@mr4stringz I'm liking the Dano, is the neck pickup approximately in the same spot as the p-pickup on the pj Mustang? I have the exact same fsr Mustang as yours, but I do miss 24 frets with good access...

I just realised it's got a bit of the Joe Dart bass thing going on!

Very cool! I still have mine, and yes, they do weigh loads, I didn't even think about it when I was young. I modified mine to fretless, and changed the headstock to 3+1 so it actually fits in a normal bag! Also stripped all the paint off, not the best idea, as the Butcher block construction is not in the slightest attractive. The DiMarzio pickup is great though! I don’t use it anymore as I'm on short scales.

Ashdown ctm15 loud hum, no signal

I wonder if anyone on here has a circuit diagram for this or the guitar version 'MoFo'? My Google fu isn't working on this one. There's a short to ground on the preamp psu -5V, present with the tl071 and 072 op amps removed and with the -5V regulator leg lifted. -5V present on the leg, so the regulator is OK. I'm thinking one of the smoothing caps may have gone short, not easy to remove. There's a couple of 2n7000 fets in there too, not sure what they do, phase splitter drivers? Clipping circuit? -

Swapped the phase splitter valve, still the same. -
Vigier Delta metal on a budget? Be interested to see how you get on.

Thanks chaps, seems a bit like cheating though! I'll try the phase splitter valve first, then call in the big guns! -
Just turned it on yesterday and there's a loud 50Hz hum and no instrument sound. Haven't got round to swapping any valves yet, but could a faulty phase splitter valve cause this? It gets louder as the master volume is turned up, the gain control makes not difference.

The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!
MoonBassAlpha replied to Baloney Balderdash's topic in Bass Guitars
It's a long thread and I may have missed it but how do people like fretless on a 30" scale? I've been using my Mustang for a good couple of years now and recorded some fretless the other day on my 34" and kinda struggled on the intonation. Thoughts please? -
Ok, in early for a change! (one small benefit of being poorly) I got a strong Blade Runner Vibe from the pic, so there's a bit of that ambient element, but then I DO enjoy bashing the drums too!

Aw thanks Dad, seems to be problem doing it from my phone.

I've done mine, just need to check the mix and upload it tonight. You'll all be glad to hear the sonic screwdriver makes a welcome return in a desolate soundscape (I.e. it doesn't have a proper tune....)

Good work on the lyrics, Lurks!
