  1. BassChat composition challenge March 2025 There's a very non-benign alien secured in the lab. We found an annoying frequency that it doesn't like either. It's dark sticky mass squirms in discomfort until it expires. Or does it... And, yes, I did watch Venom recently! 12 string guitar (GS-1) and fretless bass through NuX Mighty Plug Pro, Gretsch drums, Vintage UK Rogers snare
  2. This used to be called motorboating iirc. I'm guessing it's caused by a defective capacitor on a power supply somewhere.
  3. Good to know. Didn't have much joy with just turmeric.
  4. Another good addition to the Hohner and probably Overlord headless bridges is to use Helicoil or Recoil stainless inserts. I've repaired a couple of bridges ( one for someone on here) where the threads had stripped. This also yielded a much smoother tuning experience. The cast bridge material is quite soft but the stainless insert will last longer than the owner! They're definitely metric, m3 iirc.
  5. The Höfner tone knobs work "backwards " compared to just about every other manufacturer, just saying, if you're after authenticity. 10 is bassy, 1 is trebbly.
  6. Did you consider fitting a pre-amp instead?
  7. What are the issues with it?
  8. Interesting. Perhaps he is more tuned in to the outcome you were all hoping for/expecting?
  9. Sorry, still not posting the cab.
  10. Sorry, missed this, on holiday. Probably too late but: https://bigstirrecords.bandcamp.com/track/where-are-the-living This is a home recording done on a Zoom r24 so the raw recording is what it is, but the label seemed happy with it.
  11. Tim Turan is the go-to guy for many. https://www.turanaudio.co.uk/clients
  12. Thanks everyone! I've been thinking about the photo and this came to mind. I was working a short contract in Oxford with a group who make instruments for satellite and lander missions and had a spell in the clean room. I thought this could suggest more sinister stories though...
  13. I haven't listened yet, but that's quite some build-up!
  14. These things are really useful (I have the r24). Great in stand alone recording, also as an 8 channel interface to your DAW and can act as a control surface for the DAW too. I recorded my latest Basschat composition challenge acoustic guitars using the internal mics with good results too. Quite tge bargain for a useful piece of kit. Glwts!
  15. I confess, after reading this, I rotated the picture to put it "on the level"!
  16. The oldest photo I can find is me using it with the second Midget cab in 2017, so probably at least a couple of years older than that. Say 10-12 years, though as mentioned above, since I got the other Midget it has barely been used, so not had a hard life!
  17. Glad to help!
  18. Early for me too this month. The Blurb: February 2025 Basschat composition challenge entry. I'm trying to capture the feeling of a slow, peaceful trip along a canal. Things happen slowly and I've deliberately kept it repetitive and relatively uneventful. Recorded using a parlour guitar with light gauge strings and employing the internal mics of a Zoom R24. Fretless bass through a Nux Mighty Plug pro modelling an Aguilar amp. That's the lot! Didn't get around to recording the ducks at the lake...
  19. I've just done mine in record time, just trying to decide if it needs some birdsong and duck noises added...
  20. No tweeter. It hasn't been used much though as I did get the later Midget T model and always used that one. It's not the very oldest version as those had plastic corners. I can't remember when I got it but it was pretty new then. I'll have a dig around for clues!
  21. Yes Paul, still available! Sorry for the late reply, I haven't been on BC much lately.
  22. My bridge went the other way, and I miss that very bridge-ey element blended in for fretless. It's just more mellow now
  23. I fitted a 30" neck on my 34' fretless. I had to move the bridge back about 15mm only, due to a difference in neck designs , but it did mean the pickups were in slightly different relative positions, which I haven't altogether learned to love yet, most noticeably the bridge pickup.
  24. I've just heard that Dan Coggins (Lovetone pedals and some Thorpy Pedals designs) is taking on amp, pedal and synth repairs again. Oxfordshire He is incredibly knowledgeable in these fields, with the focus on vintage valve and solid- state gear, but won't touch digital or much surface mount gear. If permitted, I will add contact details, or will provide them by pm
