1. I'm afraid my work over the next few months is looking really hectic and I'm not able to accept any new students. I will update the page when I'm back teaching in a few months or so. Geoff Chalmers Professional Bass Guitar and Double Bass Tutor now available in Leeds. My background: I teach (and play) both bass guitar and double bass professionally. I completed my undergraduate music degree at Leeds College of Music in 2004, where I studied bass guitar with Zoltan Dekany specializing in jazz. Following my jazz studies, in 2008 I accepted an RNCM scholarship and took up a place at the Royal Northern College of Music to study classical double bass with Roberto Carrillo-Garcia, section principal with the Halle Orchestra. Whilst studying at the RNCM I was supported by the Martin Edwards Jazz bursary and the Rega Heesom Award. I have worked as a full time professional freelance bassist since 2004. In that time I have played in numerous theatre shows, pop function bands, jazz ensembles, Latin music groups, recording sessions etc. I have worked throughout the UK and also worked abroad. I also enjoy teaching and am bass tutor on the degree and masters course at Hull University. I have also taught in schools since 2003 and have experience in teaching beginner-advanced students in all styles of music. Although I feel that I specialize in jazz bass I am happy to teach whatever style of music students want to learn. In addition I cover all techniques. I am CRB checked and available to teach at my home in Kirkstall Leeds I also have a bass lessons section on my website. Thanks Geoff
2. This is a weird thread. :-) I don't understand what's going on, but I'm enjoying it.
3. Done. Cheers 4 the tip off :-) off to give it a go.
4. Hi guys, I'm pleased to report that it went well. The usual odd mistakes but I got through it all and managed to relax and enjoy the performance. Thanks again for all the support :-) Cheers Geoff
5. Thanks everyone for your support. I'm pretty nervous, but I've been working for this for the last two years so am really looking forward to it. It's my final recital for my PGdip course in classical double bass. I'm playing, honegger prelude lennox berkeley introduction and allegro sperger sonata pizzolla kicho proto sonata it's at 11.50am today in the lord Rhodes room in the RNCM Manchester. All welcome, no tickets needed. Thanks again guys :-)
6. Nice work. I bet both rigs sound great. :-)
7. Looks fantastic. Nice work :-)
8. I wouldn't use any of those. For pizz try tomastic spirocores, didario helicore, piastro obligato or evahs. Excuse the brand name spelling mistakes :-)
9.
The 5 string bodies are, I believe, the same size as Fenders and Jimmy has recently made them slightly larger so that they look more in proportion. Weight also certainly hasn't been an issue with the two I have owned. I guestimate one was 8.5 lbs the other 9. I would ask about the prospect of a PJ. I think Jimmy hasn't dismissed the idea but was struggling to get time to design the pickups correctly but would be interested to know? Steve
I guess the headstock makes it seem bigger. I love the stevie wonder live albums, Nate watts sounds amazing. Great tone.

11. Ive never played one, but would love to. My main concern would be that his 5 string jazz basses look massive. Do they balance and how heavy are they? If they are as heavy as they look could you make a more moderate bass, not all bassists are the same build as Nate Watts :-)
12. Wow! If it were me I'd stick with the five :-) great bass, good luck with your sale.
13. Wow! Gamble paid off! Great bass :-)
14. Ahhh don't do it! :-) I wish i wasn't poor!
15.
My MV5 with Sadowsky Single Coils and VTC: My brand new NYC PJ5:
This is a great thread! Which of your amazing pair do u prefer? I bet both are amazing, it must be tough to decide what to take on the gig. I love my metro modern 5 string. It does it all and sounds great on all gigs, but I would still love either a J or PJ 5 string :-)
16.
Nice DB212 mate! i have a DB210 its fantastic! really portable and surprisingly loud for such a small cab. i'd love to get another one or maybe a DB115......
great rig! Nice combination of gear. :-)
17. I don't have a scanner but if u pm me your email I will try sending a pic of the txt. It's a glowing review.
18. Great choice. Have you seen the bass player mag review? BTW this is not helping my Jazz bass gas! :-)
19. I don't like the look but it's a tone machine and I it's good to see some new designs.
20.
If only.....
+1 :-)
21. If it was mine I would buy a db112 to use with this. I'm sure they would sound great together and for ocasions when u can only use 1 cab take the 210. I found my old gs112 would struggle on it's own if there was drums.
22. Killer cab at a great price!
23. Spiro wiechs should do it.
