  1. My gut reaction is that there is some nice wood in there. Therefore, probably a nice instrument hiding under the cosmetics. To bring it up to playing standard might be worth a shot. To bring it back to its full glory would get spendy quickly. But I certainly think it would be worth a 25 mile drive to Sam Wells in Burnley to ask. https://samwellsbass.co.uk/
  2. I am afraid not. We only communicated via PM on here, and I honestly could not find her house now.
  3. Christine did some work on a Tele body I needed a belly cut on. I drove over there in 30 minutes (unheard of at this end of the world) and marvelled at wood coming off in thin sheets like peeling paper. It made me want to learn to do woodwork. Proper sharpness right there.
  4. MODS! BAN THIS SICK FILTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. Thanks. I am tempted. However, before it bricked itself, it was loading Logic but not actually letting me see it. Having to do a force quit four or five times with a brand new box told me that bad things were happening. I think I just got a bad one. It happens. Apple has been cool about it, and it is going back at their cost. I will not have time to do anything with it for a month now, so I will go back and get another one later on. I can confirm that a 256 GB SSD is not enough to load Logic in its entirety.
  6. I bought a new Mac Mini M4 last week. It has bricked itself within 2 days. I will not be worrying about plugins for a bit.

    Bricked Helix

Hi all, My friend updated the software on his Helix. It is now bricked. His local shop have quoted 400 to repair it. I do not suspect the shop of sharp practice. The problem happened well before they got their hands on it. It needs a new motherboard. Surely this cannot be right if all you are doing is putting manufacturer software on it? Any suggestions? TIA
  9. Thanks. I am about to upgrade to a new machine and will be methodical.
  10. Ooh! Ooh! I have a joke which is super niche, but I think this is the moment. My friend, who never showed any interest in music, phoned me. “I was on eBay last week and I saw the most beautiful thing. It was a guitar and I could not stop myself. I hit BIN and it arrived yesterday. I don’t know why I had never clocked these before”. “So you had an epiphany?” I asked. “No” he replied, quite put out. “It’s a proper Gibson!”.
  11. I saw Rory Gallagher. I suspect he has an element of responsibility for my tinnitus. Wow, he was loud. See also SRV.
  12. Bargalicious. My new favourite word. Apart from cake and trifle, obv.
  13. Thanks. They look like proper kit. In the spirit of info, here are some further user reviews and a sound test against a DPA. https://gearspace.com/board/low-end-theory/1394800-just-bought-line-audio-cm4.html
  14. With a matching headstock, obv.
  15. I had one of these with my Peavey MIDIbass. I should not have sold that.
  16. It turns out that 1097 of my 1715 are UA plugins, of which I "own" perhaps 20.
  17. Crazy madness. I have 1715 plug-ins. And I am a totally amateur bodger. How did I manage to collect so many? Lots of them are UAD ones that are sitting there after being downloaded with my Apollo interface, but need to be paid for to use. I wish I could disappear them. I would also like to know which plugin occasionally makes Logic unstable. You would expect the message to read "********* is making Logic unstable" so that I could go and deal with it. But that would be too obvious.

  19. You cannot spell Bass without a B. Come at me 4 string zealots.
  20. I had no idea these existed. I have often fancied the control that digital offers but in a 4 channel package. Well, here it is. I was worried that it did not have parametric eq. It does. They also make a cute mic stand adapter. So I shall buy one. BC, always finding me new ways to spend money.
  21. Aha! I was thinking 4 here. But 40 it is.
