  1. Let's say £160 £150 Level control, synth control (same pitch as played note) and one octave down in an OC2 stylee. Each of these controls has a filter control to do filtery things. It can get pretty gnarly (dude) Words, words, words, words, more words, words, words and more words. Enough of my chatter. Words do not convey sounds very well, but this does....
  2. Nope, it was a joke referencing my utter incompetence a few pages ago in this thread.
  3. Truth. Right there. I am as bad as anyone. I have a lovely 66J (Jan 7th . I have not played it in anger in decades. Can I let it go? Can I heck!
  4. That looks like it might work, but having said that, the heel of this is 11mm wider than a standard P body so to get the balance would have quite a chunky overhang. Obviously I NEVER go up there so this whole thing is academic, but I think it would upset me on an aesthetic level. I think. Of course this means finding something else which is a royal pain.
  5. If this mate can do metal flake finishes then I think we need to know who they are.
  6. The only girl in the orchestra. https://www.netflix.com/gb/title/81777798
  7. How can I haggle you down from that? That would be lush. Thank you.
  8. Buy cheap, buy twice. I know. But what is cheap and what is expensive? Bear in mind I might do 5 nuts absolute max. I would want to do guitars as well as bass. Sorry. Ebay have all sorts for £15 ish.
  9. This is the answer you are looking for. If you plug the J Tone into your amp and it sounds fine, then it is fine. If it does not sound fine (weedy) then it is because (as you have said) the pickup needs to see a higher impedance. Any FDeck thang will do all you need. You can spend more (I have - frequently) but this does the fundamentals just fine and dandy. This is actually even better value than the Rafferty. I use one as my buffer and I do love being able to wipe a touch of the top end off as well.
  10. Ouch. But the costs look fair. Hourly rates are not what they used to be. My personal experience was with a Double Bass and a luthier. It hit almost 4 figures. It is never a great moment.
  11. It was all easy
  12. I have always done some side to side vibrato on some longer notes in a phrase. I never realised that I did it until I went fanned fret. Side to side on the most angled frets with roundwounds was not for me.
  13. Thanks, I will go and have a look.
  14. Of course, my problem is that I now have a neck looking for a body. I am trying to get my head around neck pocket proportions. I am fully aware that it is probably obvious to everyone else already. Writing stuff down enables me to "finesse" my thought processes. And you are all my friends so it is OK. I had thought of getting an unrouted 4 string P body blank and opening the neck pocket slightly more than usual, but that would need a bit of an overhang for the G side of the neck to get things centered. So is this a matter of getting the instructions for some CNC action and going in from scratch?
  15. I have two of these. How did that happen? Anyway, this is structurally sound but needs the clasps replacing. I have the clasps, somewhere, and will find them if someone wants this. You will have to fit them yourself. This is why it is dirt cheap.
  16. But not the big ones. A pair of minty EM15 wooden boxes. Have your desktop look like a gig with proper grown-up speakers (you will need a hi-fi amp, obv)
  17. I have a bunch of books I have been saving for the right occasion. I was going to split the books, mount the prints in frames and hang them on the wall. Anyway, back to reality. All + whatever the postage will be. I will trust you to top up that payment once I have actually posted them California Cool - a paperback coffee table kind of thing (PCTKOT) which catalogues a bunch of hip LP covers from the 50s. Full sized £12 The Cover Art of Blue Note Records - PCTKOT which catalogues a bunch of hip LP covers from the 50s. Smaller £8 The Complete Electric Bass Player by Chuck Rainey £10 The Sound I Saw - photo book of some stonking pictures in black & white (SSPIB&W) of jazz vibes from the olden days (FTOD) £20 The Jazz Bass Book by John Goldsby. With CD - cos everyone wants a CD £12 Guitar Player Repair Guide - Dan Erlewine £8 Sold The Real Book Vol 2 in our favourite clef. Bass. £17 Geddy Lee's Big Beautiful Book of Bass. £30 Bass Line - The stories and photographs of Milt Hinton - I heartily recommend this to anyone with even a passing interest in jazz. It is his story, told by him and documented in pictures by him. It really does not get any closer than this. PCTKOT - SSPIB&W - FTOD £25 Over Time - The Jazz photographs of Milt Hinton. He was there, he had a camera. As close as it gets - kind of a 2nd volume from the one above. . PCTKOT - SSPIB&W - FTOD £11 The Jazz Theory Book - Mark Levine. I was going to read this and achieve Jazz World DOMINATION. You can guess the rest - £25 Sold
  18. "The Sensitivity knob is basically a more/better control". Beautifully put.
  19. Italia Straps strap. Nice. Nice bass, obv.
  20. EVERYONE needs a collapsing trolley. I have a Ruxxac one which I bought a solid 20 years ago. I would not be without it.
  21. Black Protec Contego 3.8 Kg / 8.3lb Grey Protec Contego 3.1 Kg / 6.83lb
  22. They appear on one of the FB relic guitar groups.
  23. I have owned several (P and J) and currently own an original '66 J. Functionally there is no difference. The original has more bragging rights, but other than that, for me, they are the same. If he made a 66 J 5 and a P (with an A neck) 5 string then I would happily flog most of my kit. But he wont. I have asked several times.
  24. A recognised authority on the subject. I have acted as an expert witness for several situations.
  25. This is the stuff. When I said in a minute I clearly meant tomorrow!
