  1. Ghastly. Looks like design for the sake of design without purpose.
  2. If you want to replace the second bass, check first the string spacing. Like you I switch between the two, my fretted has the classic 19mm string spacing, mt fretless Spector only has 16.5. I’ve got used to it so I’m not replacing either at present but just for a short while when going from one to the other it feels different and I am conscious that I might just play the wrong string or hit two at once. I believe the Ibanez basses have close together string spacing ( but I’m sure others here can confirm/deny). There are quite a few bass collection basses coming up for sale here and elsewhere, why not get one and defret that if there is t a fretless one around already then everything will be the same! 🤩
  3. They used the p.u. on the 2013/4 EB as well and it too has a great range of tones and is very loud for a passive bass.
  4. Spector Spectorcore 5 fretless meets your requirements IMHO.
  5. £80 i’ll Have it if you don’t, in fact I’ll offer £90! 🤩
  6. Spector make the very good Spectorcore fretless 5 string which is comparatively reasonably priced, had an ebony fingerboard and 35ins scale. The bonus is the Fishman piezo bridge offering alternative tones to magnetic pickups. Shop around as there are some priced well below list, I paid less than £500 for mine new buying it from Italy. The semi hollow body also makes it quite light. Personally I prefer flats on a fretless but I acknowledge you get less “mwah” if that’s your thing, but you don’t tear up the fingerboard either.
  7. I thought Limelight abused them for you and sent them out looking like that!
  8. Stuart Spector classifies his output from the Korean factory, Legends and Spectorcores, as professional quality instruments. I’m inclined to agree with him, they are just not ludicrously overpriced.
  9. I rather like the bevelled edge to the body. Pity it’s in Scotland and I’m at the other end of the country. ☹️
  10. I don’t remember the Mk 1 then, just that the slab body weighed a ton and was rather uncomfortable.
  11. I was thinking the same, we hear the argument that for recording you need a Precision ( courtesy of Scott Devine who may just be a bit biased) then you look at what bassists in bands are playing and there seems to be more Jazzes than Precision’s. Then again look at what good luthiers copy and it seems to be mainly Jazzes, similarly the budget mass produced stuff, leaning toward Jazzes. But does this necessarily make the Jazz better?
  12. Didn’t all the basses designated “Telecaster” have the big mud ucker type pickup at the neck end back in those days?
  13. How on earth do you decide what to play — the choice is bewildering!
  14. As the Searchers embark on their farewell tour before hanging up the guitars for good after 50plus years of playing, recording and touring, I pose the question. All of their hits as far as I remember were covers which they made their own and on tours they’ll even do tributes to other bands they admired. So if not the best covers band perhaps the most successful? Having seen them live quite a few times I would say that they are a very enjoyable band to watch and they have been one of the hardest working ever, more gigs per year than just about anyone else. hope they have a great and long retirement they’ve earned it.
  15. Gary Willis likes one on his signature Ibanez. Didn’t early Alembics have something similar but looking like a third pickup?
  16. Interesting colour, champagne? What sort of age?
  17. Oh the evils of Import taxes. When we crash out of Europe we’ll have to pay them on Warwicks and Hofners from Germany, Vigier from France, Maruszcyk from Poland and every where else. It’s a pity we are going to miss out on the removal of taxes on imports from Japan to Europe which goes free trade on 1st February.
  18. I thought they were a Dutch food company - they are🤭
  19. Looks far better than the original.
  20. Thanks guys, I’ll check the RBX 270; I had also been wondering about the Yammie BB.
  21. So normally I play 5 stringers but a friend has asked me to teach him bass so I think I need a 4 string so it’s easier to follow my finger positioning without the confusion of an extra string. I'm now looking for an inexpensive bass of acceptable quality and I don’t fancy a Jazz, also I’m fussy about weight, too long playing ridiculously heavy guitars and carrying heavy amps!! The long scale Jaguar is appealing but I wonder if the largish body makes it heavy, so has anyone any experience of them and does the P pick-up sound like a precision? Other suggestions gratefully received.
