1. Sadly true. I will ask him for any updates and report back if he manages to have any contact with them at all.
2. The guitarist in my band ordered a cover from them 4 weeks ago and has had no contact, replies to emails, nothing.
3. Standard tuning in my band is D#, A#. D#, G#. Basically drop D but up a semi tone. Sounds brilliant! Plenty more definition on the low stuff! We did experiment with some other tunings but this seems to work for us.
4. 'Wings, only the band the Beatles could have been.' Mr A Partridge.
5. Ha. I bet it is my old one. I've just found a white scratchplate for a DJ5 which I never thought to include when I sold it on before. If your buyer wants it just let me know and I can send it out.
6. I don't suppose you originally bought this second hand from someone in Reading did you? I just wonder if this used to belong to me! I had a DJ5 I sold with a hiscox case and I swapped the pickguard to a tort one.
7. The TV mix had a far better bass sound than any other band on the brits which made me a bit suspicious plus his hand movements just didn't seem to correspond to the fills I was hearing. Whoever played the part did a fantastic job but I'm not convinced the band were playing live.
8. I seriously thought he was miming all the way through the performance. Some great Jameson esque bass parts and tremendous bass tone! Maybe I need to listen again but it looked and sounded far too perfect for a live show.
9. Was this the one on gumtree? If yes then you beat me to it!! Hope it plays as great as it looks.
10. Looking at interparcel they do state that they will not ship 'Articles of exceptional value (eg, works of art, antiques, precious stones, gold and silver) over £250'. Would a musical instrument come into that category??
11. These pics are amongst the best I have ever seen for a bass advertised on here. Exceedingly drool-worthy!
12. The bass gallery do commission sales at only 15% commission! Much more reasonable than the denmark street rates.
13. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-xX7iWvzbo...player_embedded As someone who worked in music retail for 6 years I can really appreciate how difficult it can be to strike a balance between trusting customers enough to hand them high end guitars and protecting your stock from the (unfortunately) many people who will not treat them with any respect. This is especially difficult with commission sales when the seller wants the guitar to be spotless if it is collected as it hasn't sold. Music shops can be real nutter magnets and you never know if who you are talking to is a genuine customer with cash to hand or a time wasting mental health patient on a day off the ward! I have had great service from the gallery before and really look forward to a visit every couple of years when I get the itch (and the funds) to buy something new.
14. I can vouch for dealing with Sagawa. I bought a MIM P bass off him a couple of weeks back and he is a gent to deal with!
15. Does what it says on the tin!
16. Just received a MIM P bass from Sagawa. Great comms, bass as described and super quick delivery and a very nice gent!
17. Just a wee update with a new video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9_GE4l_TNk No luck so far in tracking this guy down. If anyone knows the thief send Jay an email [email protected] The crime reference number is: ec/3861323/11 - if you wish to inform the police anonymously.
18. Did you contact the UK distributor or DR directly?? The UK guys at firstline are pretty decent folks. Not getting back to you twice is very bad form and very bad customer service.
19. Really like the truss rod wheel access on the neck, never seen that before and it makes a lot of sense.
20. The guy smashed the key safe off the wall outside. It's most likely someone who has used the studio and very recently. There is more cctv to come with a direct feed off the camera and potentially from the carpark. Will update the thread with more info when it appears.
21. This is a re-post from a friend of mine who had a break in at his rehearsal studios last night. Watch out for any secondhand Mag300 heads going cheap around berkshire......If anyone recognises the guy please send Jay a message.
Dear all, At approximately 0.30am on 3rd July, The Rhoom Studios was broken into and some equipment and cash was stolen. The keysafe was smashed off of unit 17 and the ASHDOWN MAG300 bass amp and mics were taken from Studio 1. Then Unit 26 was broken into and as you'll see from the video below, the scum broke into the control room and stole the cash. This also happened last week too - an ASHDOWN MAG300 bass amp and 2 SM58 mics were taken along with all of the cash. If anyone see's a couple of these surface in the Reading area, please let me know. One has a fake-leather finish, the other had that black fur finish. I'm offering 2 months of free rehearsals to anyone who can name and shame the person in this video. The police are already involved but this could speed the process up somewhat. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9_GE4l_TNk If you have any information, please contact [email protected] or call 07730 685295. Any information at all will be useful. In the mean time, the online calendars have been disabled and the payment method will be changed again. If you rehearse at the Rhoom, please can you arrange to pay via bank transfer for your session, unless I come and collect the money in person. Please do not leave money on site until further notice. Kind regards Jamie Postones
22. Played 3rd on of 4 bands at 'Poison Bar' in Basingstoke last night. To be honest we were a little intimidated at the start of the evening but it ended up being great fun. I felt a bit sorry for the headline band as they had to wait until the boxing finished before playing. We managed to somehow time the ending of our last song to stop exactly 5 seconds before the first round started.
23.
I had a chat about a month ago with a (ex Warwick) dealer - who will again remain nameless (lovely guy tho - actually bought his old dj5 off him as a private sale and still have it...anyway, i digress)... We started off talking about Lakland in the UK and how the exchange rate was killing it for the former importer but he went on to say that Warwick was another one that was once ubiquitous but is now hard to find new and basically for the reason Mart explained. He expanded further on this - one of the 'conditions' is that prospective dealers of Warwick basses are expected to stock and push their Hellborg amps as well. Now I'm sure they're wonderful devices but they are incredibly expensive (imho) and aesthetically a bit 'individual' so dealers must be a tad cautious about that. Plus it seems they are pretty 'old school heavy' - at a time when a lot of us are discovering that with the new generation neo magnets and switching power amps, hernias no longer come as standard... I can therefore understand why dealers aren't keen. I've never owned (or wanted) a Warwick but to me they are a bit 'interchangeable' with Spectors, pointy Sandbergs, natural-finish Yammies and the like - so maybe dealers are also finding it easy to offer other brands that fit the bill. But then, wtf do I know? I'm one of those phillistines that only likes basses that look like Leo designed them
That would be me! The shop went under sadly but we had made the decision to stop stocking Warwick's some time in the past. Whenever we would get inquiries from customers I would get to the meat of the conversation (price) and people were shocked with the prices we were quoting (and they were competitive!!!!). Put simply they priced themselves out of the market to customers. Every 6 months for 2 year period the cost price to dealers went up by 10-15% a time. As a dealer the commitment of goods you have to take on to be a Warwick Centre was prohibitive and unaffordable for us. To offer any German made Warwick's at all you had to have at least 12 in stock and a Hellborg system. Warwick offer no kind of credit account so you have to have the cash up front to pay for £20-30K of goods. The product is fantastic, the quality better than ever but at the prices they are now there isn't enough of a customer base to support sales at the prices they have set. £2.5k plus for neck through 5 string?? Double buck's with no options for over £1100?? That's why there isn't a UK dealer base anymore. Sad really coz the basses are great but at a time when the second hand value is so poor it's very hard to justify buying a new instrument. It was especially frustrating for us as we had always done well with the brand with many customers ordering custom shop instruments but we simply couldn't afford to keep stocking them. Oh and Sime I mentioned I had a white scratchplate for the DJ5 knocking around somewhere - I've found it. PM me if you want it and I'll drop it in the post.
24. Up for sale is my old sound-card. It's a Focusrite Saffire. It is sold unboxed (chucked it out a couple of years back - doh!) but in fully working order. Bought around 2008. I think it was around £280 at the time. I still have the Firewire cable it came with and a CDROM with a free version of Cubase LE on it. The drivers and manual are available to download for free from the Focusrite website. http://www.focusrite.com/downloads/saffire/ It did come boxed with an AC adaptor but as it runs fine on the Firewire connection I never needed it. I think they only included it as some Laptops couldn't supply enough power to run the card. Everything works fine and it records bass really well. The pre-amps are very decent. Buyers are welcome to collect from my address in Reading or I can package and post it out for another £10. Paypal, cheque (with time to clear) or bank transfer suits me fine. £60 Official blurb: The original Saffi re from Focusrite fuses state-of-the-art hardware with highly integrated software to take audio interfacing one giant step closer to the professional studio experience. 25. Went to the gig at the roundhouse last night and it was a little bit average. The sound was great, the venue was great but they didnt quite nail it for me. Maybe the venue was a little bit too big for them. Also the light show was terrible, just dull and uninspiring stuff which was unconnected to the songs. I would go and see them again but only in a smaller venue.
