  1. Thanks! I hadn’t seen this - I think the bass was delivered from new to Ultimate, then sold to its first owner in Autumn 2019 (later than I’d thought)
  2. Thanks Julfam - some lovely images and far better than my own! As you know, it's an unbelievably beautiful instrument in every respect. You'd be very welcome to repatriate this to Switzerland - and I'm sure that your wife will be delighted!
  3. Well, this is going to hurt a bit. I try to avoid hyperbole in ads, and for this one, the images should do most of the talking. However, I would say this is possibly the most beautiful bass that I have owned (and there have been many). To illustrate the point, on viewing this instrument, my wife, who genuinely could not be any less interested in basses, exclaimed 'WOW!' Now she's seen a few very nice instruments but none have elicited any remark whatsoever. So to business. A US Stuart Spector signed NS2 in Ultra Amber finish - it took me ages to source this one. It has the (unusual) solid 5A quilted maple wings - from what I read, this implied a significant upcharge - around £1000 in 2017, the year of build. I'm also told that the neck is around 2mm shallower than is normal (at the request of the commissioning purchaser). Nut width is 1.64" and the scale is 34". Abalone inlays on the Pau Ferro board. I can't find any blemishes or imperfections anywhere - I'd say that the bass could pretty much pass for as new. The amber burst is vibrant and beautiful and the timbers used throughout are outstanding - even the ebony head cap is subtly gorgeous. EMG X PJ pickups and the 9v Haz pre. It sounds like a Spector. I have the action extremely low - probably too low for most - and the bass is strung with D'Addario 40-95 nickel rounds as far as I can remember. Playability is superb, though the bass is simply too big for me. I started to play short-scale pretty much exclusively around 4 years ago and moving back to long-scale is now a struggle. The bass just isn't getting any use. In terms of history, I believe that the bass was supplied to a dealer in Canada in early 2018 (build date is December 2017). I think that the bass sold in North America, then found its way to Switzerland, from where I purchased it around 18 months ago. I can't see any evidence of play from either of the previous owners - I suspect that the bass has been noodled and then returned to its case. Really, I doubt you'd find a Spector in better condition. I have the Spector branded hard-case but apparently, this wasn't original to the bass. The case has a knock/crack in the rear surface (not obvious or visible, though it's there) and the internal foam has minor damage where the upper horn sits. I also have a Gator hard case of the type that Spector now supplies for its basses, though mine isn't Spector branded and has some minor signs of wear. If any prospective buyer wishes to arrange their own courier, I suggest that it is shipped in the Gator case for added protection. Collection in Manchester is great, of course, though if a purchaser requires shipment and can arrange this, I can print labels, find a strong carton and pack well. As far as I can see, a bass like this commissioned today would cost somewhere significantly north of £6k. I'm taking quite a substantial hit on the instrument (as noted above, I imported from Switzerland with all the tax and shipping costs that this involves) so I'm not looking for any offers or trades thanks. Any questions, please just ask. The images were taken on a dark and wet afternoon in the North. I'll try to get something far better in place by tomorrow - any specific images, again please just ask.
  4. Danelectro Longhorn reissue - short-scale. Very nice butterscotch sunburst and pretty much as new - I can't find any playwear, dings, scratches or blemishes anywhere. Low action and currently strung with (Dunlop?) flats. I bought the bass from an extremely kind member here and I'm selling for exactly what I have in it (i.e., £295). Collection in central Manchester is good, but If any prospective buyer wishes to arrange their own courier, I can pack carefully in a brand new Gear4Music tweed case for an additional £50 (I also have a carton and can print shipping labels etc.). You. can see the case in one of the images - a very nice fit. If you've tried a Longhorn, you'll appreciate just how light these are - I'd estimate around 7lbs. I find them very easy to play too. I have an ongoing love affair with the Longhorn but this one just isn't getting any play time and I'm trying to be a little more tidy. Any questions, please just ask.
  5. Helix HX Stomp - pretty much unused since purchase a couple of years ago. I don't really use effects or models at all. I'm the second owner. The first, a guitarist, appears to have placed the unit on a combo or similar as there's some fine marking (shallow scratches) to the bottom of the pedal - I've tried to show these in the images. The rest of the case - sides and top - appear to be entirely blemish free. I have the box and all original mains leads/instructions etc. As I haven't used the unit other than to try it to check that it works (and very briefly as an interface), it doesn't have the latest firmware as far as I know. I suspect that updating is a fairly straightforward task. Collection in central Manchester is possible or I should be able to ship with insurance for around £10. Any questions, please just let me know.
  6. I use the Peterson Strobostomp HD and frankly, apart from the old reference Conn and Peterson, it's the finest tuner I've experienced. Great for super-accurate set-up work, and as a general board or floor tuner. Slow is certainly close enough in most (all for me) gigging circumstances and the tuner is really easy to use in real world settings. Visibility is excellent in both bright and dark environments. A very robust unit too. I'll be using mine later for a set-up job - the Peterson excels for pretty much anything.
  7. Just incredible really - if this was in the UK, I'd be struggling. Superb in every detail
  8. I can only comment on the SL112 as I haven't used a Hartke. I find the SL112 to have a very polished, rounded tone with very full bottom-end. The horn is smooth and I haven't found it to be harsh or brittle - treble is defined and contains a reasonable amount of air. I tend to scoop mids a little but generally, find the mids in the SL112 to be present, focused and articulate. The cab is extremely light but appears to be nicely constructed and finished. Alongside the Bergantino HD210, the SL112 is one of my preferred cabs - the latter works beautifully with fretted or fretless.
  9. 'For the Love of Money' - O'Jays (Anthony Jackson)
  10. Apologies for the delayed response and thanks very much - I'd concur entirely, this is probably a relatively bright cab and may not suit those looking for a thoroughly vintage tone. It's sort of a good all-rounder but errs on the brighter side in terms of voicing. It's certainly very light - almost laughably so for a 2x10 and is extremely robust and sturdy
  11. Bought a lovely preamp and cab from Bernard in an extremely easy transaction. Berrnard's packaging is a thing of beauty and wonder - absolutely superb and he was extremely flexible and accommodating with respect to shipping. The items arrived in perfect condition and exactly as described. An entirely upstanding and honourable member of our community - thanks Bernard, very much appreciated and a pleasure to communicate
  12. Thanks for this and I have to admit, I've struggled to find spec's too. I know that the speakers are Celestion neo but that's about it. To me, the cab has a fairly modern voice, though I only use 'modern' voiced basses, and nearly always active. The cab doesn't have all the poke of something like a Berg HD210 (but nothing does in my experience), or the up-front presence of a Wayne Jones 1x10 or 2x10 cab - in all, I find it fairly even, modern and efficient (and very easy to transport). Apologies, I know this isn't much help and if I find anything further, I'll post here.
  13. Breathtakingly beautiful - the finish is stunning and love the case - pity the latter aren’t more widely available. I’d love this but no way I can justify the purchase. Good luck though I doubt you’ll need it!
  14. hahaha, I hadn't seen that. I'd agree, if you're a touring pro with an expensive bass, and flights, crew, trucks etc. to take into account, £2k might be good value (when tax benefits are taken into account, possibly a bargain!?)
  15. I've always liked the look of the Bass Safe, though finding an appropriate bag for a larger Alembic can be a bit of an issue. Here's the link to the Calton site: https://www.calton-cases.com/shop/bass-guitar-cases/alembic-guitars-bass/ The company lists some Alembic models, though I'm sure that they'll build to fit any bass. Products are clearly aimed at the pro (classical?) and affluent semi-pro/collector, with UK prices not far short of £2k. Perhaps weirdly, the company started life in Aldershot, though production is all US-based now. I think I'd be looking at the higher-end SKB options, or Peli if you can find one to fit - some of the larger rifle cases may take a larger bass. I use a Peli case for outboard and it's superbly well-built
  16. Nostalgia! I remember well the time that Barrett's had the distribution deal for Wal and will have walked past this bass in the shop many times (and very possibly played it) back in the early '80s. This looks lovely, though I've had enough Wal's to know that they really don't work for me. I actually preferred these Pros (especially the 'E's) to the Custom models. What a lovely example, despite the changes, and took me back many decades!
  17. I'd have a look at the SKB iSeries 5014-OP - superb cases and some of the best that I've seen - not light but not as heavy as a full flight case. The body width of some Alembics might be a problem (they won't take a small-bodied standard for example). Other very good options are Calton (though very expensive) and Enki
  18. I played some of these back in the day and found them to be superb instruments - a real premium feel and finish - great necks and great J tones too. The finish on this one looks spectacular
  19. I received a Fusion bag that was carefully wrapped in bin liner type material and tape just last week - I think it was a Parcelforce Express 48 service. The bag and packaging arrived entirely undamaged, though that may be a fluke. The entire package was very light and the shipping cost very reasonable. I'd probably do the same if I was sending, though use premium bin-liners or plastic rubble sacks (the latter are much stronger).
  20. Fabulous gig bags - I've been using an F1 bass bag for years. Very comfortable handles, easily stowable straps, and surprisingly light for the level of protection on offer. I've just picked-up the guitar version for a couple of shorties and a headless Status SII. I'm very tempted by this but have no real use for it... though I can think of a way to manufacture one... Great price too IMO!
  21. A matter of standpoint and opinion really (and I tend to concur with Thomastik here), though an opportunity to lift an outrageously lovely bass to the top
  22. A lovely, easy deal with Russ for an excellent gig bag - perfectly packed and in superb condition - thanks very much - an outstanding member of the BC community!
