Shuker 5’s are amazing basses and so are the 4’s! Custom made by one of the finest luthiers in the UK and as each one is built by hand with different woods and hardware, each is unique.
They always seem to have excellent set-ups too.

I wouldn't knock much off at all! It sounds like somebody is trying to get the bass at a bargain price. I'd prefer a great playing and sounding bass with a changed pot over a 100% original bass with a maxed out truss rod and high action! I guess we are all different though!
Pots are a wear item and can / will fail. An American dealer told me he would 'devalue' a 1961 Precision with both pots changed by £225. I wouldn't worry about a changed pot as long as the bass plays and sounds great!
I have been lucky enough to have a couple of Jon's basses in the past (and still have an amazing 5 string) and IMHO they are superbly crafted instruments.
He is an incredible luthier.
Well worth trying one!
