We had a Pino in the shop recently priced at £3,050 and it sold in under 2 weeks. It was a great bass, much nicer than the '64 P original I used to have.
I imagine it did...the Pino is a stunner. Sorry to OP...going off topic here. I'm glad you have sorted it!
Looks about right to me too. A Pino or Jaco CS is around £3,000 - £3,100 in a store now and the Geddy carries a higher price. I actually thought they'd be closer to £4K or even £4.5K! THe discount vs RRP is far greater on the Geddy than their other CS basses.
Wow...I'm well out of touch!
How do you know that a highly skilled luthier wouldn't just stick it over his knee and give it quick crack?
Who knows what that might actually cause. Quick fix, yes, good idea, well. I'm not even close to being a luthier, but I wouldn't do that even if I was. Paint could flake off near the neck pocket.

Not massively impressed with Guitar Village.
I've bought a couple of basses from GV and always found them o.k. I even enquired about a bass they had in their sale that had finished a few days ago and they said that i could have the bass at the sale price. Can't say fairer than that. This was over the phone by the way as i'd never use email if i was seriously enquiring about buying a bass.
Problem is, depending on your job, email is actually better because you might not be able to make a personal call/get into a quiet area etc. Email? Few seconds, discreet, done! -
I still get tempted by the Epiphone Casino...I just wonder how it will hold up against the build quality of my Tele.
A strat would certainly be a good option. There are a huge variety of different models around, and it might be worth looking at one with dual P90s, as well as the more classic designs with 3 singles. I'm a strat player - it's my natural guitar. Consider also a Les Paul Junior, again with P90s. It's simple, much lighter than a standard Les Paul and should give that clear, direct sound that you like. If you were happy to stay with a Tele design then look up the Cabronita - Gretsch style mini humbuckers for a very different tone to a traditonal bucker. If you're willing to go a little off-piste then have a look at JJ guitars Jewel http://www.jjguitars...wel_guitar.html Twin P90s in a doublecut body, but with Gibson scale length. I have a JJ Goldtop special (twin Dimarzio mini humbuckers, splittable to single coils too - might be moving it on shortly too) and it's a very playable, lightish guitar with a nice chunky neck. Made in the UK too.
I will check those out, cheers.
How much do you want to spend?
Roughly £1200, although give or take a little more/less depending on the guitar. This takes the Musicman guitars out of the equation I guess. Thanks all.
My CS arrived yesterday. It's going back. I'm not posting this to flame the supplier as they have been great, it's just that I am hugely disappointed when I should be over the moon. I can't post pictures from here, but essentially there is a noticeable difference in the distance between the E string and the edge of the fretboard and the G string and the other edge. The E side is far wider. Strings are pretty much evenly spaced and they are fine as they go over the nut. Saddles are not adjustable laterally. I keep asking myself, am I being too picky, but I know it will drive me nuts. Anyone else had similar problems?
I've seen loads of Jazz basses like that. Either the bridge has been drilled wrong or the neck has moved...either way not good enough.
To be honest, without considering what you already have, from your description I would have recommended a Tele! It sounds like you already have the guitar you like. I've gone off Strats a lot in the last few years, maybe they just became too ubiquitous for me. I prefer Jags these days (although mine is humbuckers, I want a single coil version too). Maybe try one of the single coil models. Another option might be the baritone Tele - you get a Tele and something nearer to the bass that you're used too.
Ay, the Jag is a cool looking guitar! I love the Johnny Marr artist model.

When it comes to basses, I know what I’m doing. I know what to look for, what pickups I like, what style/body/neck I like, etc. Guitar wise, its different. All I know is that I like how some guitars look and sound. To me, all of the necks seem small as I started on bass and always used big fat P bass copy necks. So, all guitar necks seem quite fast to me, (although I played an Epiphone Les Paul once that was just plain uncomfortable). I currently have a USA Tele from about 2000 ish. It’s a very well built and fantastic sounding guitar. In all that time, I’ve barely had chance to play much guitar compared to bass but its coming out much more often now and I’m thinking of taking guitar more seriously. I don’t need a new guitar, but I’d like one. Same old instrument obsession. Here is the thing, I have no idea what to get. I love the twang and simplicity of the Telecaster. I have no desire for super high gain shredding or anything really heavy, just a good clean sound and the ability to get nice and dirty/fuzzy but still have clarity. My safe bet is to go against the grain of most the guitarist I personally know (they all play Gibsons/ESPs/etc) and get a Stratocaster. This sound bizarre, but I barely see any bands recently using them, but I know they are probably one of the most iconic guitars ever designed. The Strat would be familiar territory. I would probably stick to either a Roadworn or an American Standard. Should I just try something completely different to Fender but still ‘safe’? Part of me would like to try an Albert Lee Musicman guitar because of the cool shape, but they are almost double the price of a Fender strat and would probably cost more than any of my basses, which is probably wasted at my current level of playing! I then thought about something with P90s, like an Epiphone Casino, but would I be disappointed with the quality coming from a decent Fender? I don’t think the SG/Les Paul are for me, as much as I quite like them. Open to ideas! A nice semi hollow guitar might be nice, or just a straight up 3 single coil strat. I must admit, the tone I’m chasing seems to be single coils…
One of the Warwick strap locks I got with it failed at practice whilst I wasn't playing and it hit the floor from about waist height.. Must've hit a weak spot.
Oh man I'm glad it's fixed but that is one heck of a drop to cause that Was this a properly installed locking strap lock? If so, it takes the point out of it. Maybe contact the manufacturer

The Importance of Artwork & Logos

I think the whole marketing and image of artwork and logos, even when we are talking about music gear, is quite significant. -
Returning a bass to Thomann - cost?
Musicman20 replied to uncle psychosis's topic in General Discussion
Totally fair. I have hung on to the Tecamp Puma and with the TH500, I have everything covered (both purchased from Thomann). Tried a GK Micro and it is not my thing so back it went. They are great to do business with. There is not a music store for miles around here that stocks a fraction of what is available form Thomann, so it is a Godsend that if I need anything, I can order it, have it delivered to my home within a couple of days and use it for up to 30 days knowing that there is a no quibble return policy. Yu will not get better than that. plus I reviewed some of the equipment I have purchased from them on their site and they send me a 40 euro voucher off my next purchase. Where will it end with these guys.
Completely understand why you would use them! It's probably the way a lot of music stores are going to try and go. -
I have never purchased a guitar, but I recently returned a micro amp and it cost 15 euro. They simply asked me to fill out a return slip and leave the item at my local post office. Not sure what the price of returning a guitar is. Be warned though, the item needs to be in pristine condition. The slightest mark anywhere on the casing, means that Thomann will refuse the return
That seems completely fair to me. Those Tecamp amps are tempting! -

That is quite a decent policy! Is it really only 15 euros to drop a bass off with a post office/similar?! -
Why is it so expensive to have that option? Surely cheaper than paint/polish! What happens if you wear through? Could happen.
This is my favourite track off St Vincent's latest album; I really like her guitar playing/effects
She is definitely not a conventional guitarist, and I like that!
-
Just realised St. Vincent are playing the amazing Sage venue in Newcastle...definitely going to try and get tickets ASAP!
Yeah I enjoyed St Vincent. Kasabian a bit less so. Didn't quite get the rolling down the stairs thing at the end though?
I think its another part of the the whole 'act'. She is definitely a little off the wall, but I quite like that. Nice Musicman Albert Lee HH guitar as well.
-
I must admit I've been quite disappointed with Jools recently, not so much the actual show, just the bands. None of them have really made me want to go and listen to them. This past week, I wanted to catch up with what Kasabian are doing. I was impressed, and I'm glad they have a another new sound for this latest album. I've always liked how the instruments stick to their parts and they don't have a dominant guitarist. It's actually more like dominant bass! St. Vincent were brilliant. Quite odd, but brilliantly catchy at the same time. If you get chance, check it out. It's good to hear new music that inspires me to keep writing. 'Birth In Reverse' is the really catchy track.

I would try a new 2014 American Standard P Bass. They now have the 62 Reissue pups in them. Most P's can be made to sound VERY similar with the right strings, setup, tone knob and amp settings.

Cave in are a fantastic band.
