How does this live up to guitarists expectations of pedals and effects? I'm no effects junkie but as I'm currently playing more guitar, (and probably will be until a decent band turns up needing a bassist) I'm starting to invest in more guitar gear. I have some decent TC guitar pedals, a nice enough Orange rig, tuner, and a quality multi power supply (T Rex Chameleon). I am more tempted to stick with buying a few nice guitar pedals if I'm honest, (I'd like a nice drive pedal such as the Crowther Hot Cake or Fulltone Plimsoul) and maybe more delay (TC) and more than likely a compressor/boost (TC Spark) but that is about it. As I'm already half setup with cables, power, other pedals, etc, I'm probably going to stick to that route, but it would be cool to know what the iOS option is like for guitar.
The voltage thing ( as well as protecting national distributors) was to stop people bringing them over from the USA where the voltage difference would fry it! Europe has never really been an issue. Best prices on MB are with Thomann at the moment....
Agreed...absolute bargain price on Thomann. The UK market needs to react to those prices or they will lose sales. I suspect the argument will be 'well, you need to buy it in the UK to get a warranty' which is another ancient way of looking at buying products. If you buy it within the EU you should get a warranty in the EU. I suspect Thomann offer their own.

Contact one of the Genz chaps on Talkbass (Agedhorse?). I contacted re: LEDS for the Streamliner and they sent them out, no problems. This is post Genz-closure.

Metallica sound great and Rob is great but his bass is (as per most metal bands) low in the mix.
-
Sorry to hear that. Ruts happen. I've not played a gig in a year due to time wasters and work being very very busy. I still love bass but I'm focusing on guitars and writing now as I'm sick of meeting lazy songwriters! May as well do it myself.

...and getting sick of HAIM. Clearly a talented bunch of ladies (gent drumming?) but I get very tired of their music very quickly.

I've only been once and I'd like to go again...nice to see Interpol are playing again (hugely underrated melancholic post-punk)... http://www.bbc.co.uk/events/errnc8/acts/afzmxj#p021sbgd
Mark is not the first (or only) person to have built a business like this and he won't be the last. I don't see why a more general discussion about relic'd instruments and copyright had to turn into a witch hunt for one persons business...
Yeah originally the thread title may have seemed a little bit of a target, even if not meant that way.

I think the fact a Roadworn Jazz/Precision is now £1000+ has something to do with it. Not only that, it's the sheer choice/options available. I'd like a Fiesta Red/Tort/light relic/rosewood/P neck bass. If I go Fender, it's a Pino, and its money I don't want to invest. Fender make great basses but £3000 or whatever it is for a VERY basic design is just not my thing, (unless I suddenly throw caution to the wind).

Markbass - all made in Indonesia now and heavy?
Yes, I recall people queuing up to tell Alex Claber that he shouldn't charge such high prices unless he could also match the high-quality design and high-quality construction exhibited by other high-end manufacturers. Like Markbass. He must be wetting himself laughing just now.
? - I don't think they were alluding to these handles. -

Under £400! http://www.thomann.de/gb/markbass_little_mark_iii.htm -
Nice....but a bit cheaper to get the Squier CV version
Cheers Gareth. I must admit I've hardly pushed the BDDI since starting to use it (about 3 years now), but maybe this is part of the tone I'm bored with. I know I couldn't go back to using just the head (given the choice), so maybe it's the front end that needs changing and not the head itself. Of course I've never played a DG product, but I've read so many good reports about these, and although I don't want distortion as such I think a subtle thickening will do wonders. For reference I hated the VT Bass I had, way too lively for me, and as much as I liked the Paradriver I had for a few months I found it too tempting to play with at gigs and too distracting. Also I did miss the tubey thickening the BDDI did.
Hmmm.... Aguilar Tonehammer pedal of TH500?

Is this a sign of future pricing? http://www.thomann.de/gb/markbass_mini_cmd_121p_lm3.htm?sid=f7ad66b65357572b2af2389d3a167fa0 -
Me agin with another idea. I've been looking at the Darkglass Vintage Deluxe and this looks like it might be a cheaper option than changing the amp. To me it looks like a more neutral version of my BDDI. The Era knob looks like a good idea and maybe a one knob tweak I could make use of. As much as I love my BDDI it's really only there to add a bit of punch as I don't really like the full on SVT emulation, but the VTM seems to be more flexible. Any thoughts on this idea?
Hmm...cheaper option for sure plus you get the clean Markbass tone without it. Personally, I've never been massively happy with the gain/drive tones from the Darkglass products. Distortion/gain/hair of grit is a very personal thing and to me it sound quite modern....I still think the BDDI is one of the best for that tone.

The DB212 is my favourite bass guitar cabinet....and I've tried a lot.
-
PS - Does that say Sue Ryder? Basschat have already raised a lot for them by buying ALL of their old bass stock.

Oh Pete! At least you see the funny side. I've played a really good gig for charity in the past (one of the busiest liveliest gigs I've played in the past 4 years or so) but yep, some charity events are basically so much work for no one to even take any notice or actually raise money. I tend to do a lot of work related charity events so that is now enough for me....only got so much time in life! Saying that, if its a well organised good cause, I'd play it if it meant I'd have a good time and maybe just cover fuel, etc.
-
I think that looks quite spectacular! Although, I would prefer a white violin bass with a tort guard and black fretboard. YUM.
-
Tort works on: Any sunburst/tobacco burst, sonic blue, seafoam green, LPB, any white/cream, fiesta red, natural (looks great on a Stingray). The Tort has to be more brown than red....I really dislike the bright red tort as per Sandbergs I've seen and MIJ Fenders (the one I owned anyway). IMO, it looks ok on black, but I avoid black basses as I much prefer other colours.
I could be wrong but my understanding is that the D Lakins available in Europe will come with decent gig bags - don't believe everything you read in TalkBass Also, they are made at a top quality builder in South Korea not Indonesia. I have seen some TalkBass mentions of Indonesia but pretty sure they are Korean. Not much between them as I'm sure there are good and bad builders in each country but in general terms 'made in South Korea' is a pretty good quality mark these days
I hope they are good, especially for the money. I've always found Lakland Skylines with finish flaws and generally rushed cosmetics. I've even played ones with misaligned bridges. I never bought one for that reason. Fender may not be perfect but at least it's easier to get a good one. I Iike the Carvins though, and full respect for making their own gear in their own factory for a great price. That's why the Lakland/D Lakin idea of building just seems bizarre.
-
I much prefer the Carvin over D Lakin basses. I have no objection whatsoever to non-US outsourced gear, but the prices the D Lakin basses are for a bass made in Indonesia, without even a high quality gig bag, is insane. I'd just get a Classic Vibe and upgrade the pickups.
-
I'd opt for the MB800.
-
I will hazard a guess at D Lakin?
Probably a good guess.

Gallien MB500? Might be a good amp to try out.
