1. Mike Lull (great until I see the headstock), AC and the new D Lakin basses...
2. Thanks all - Crowther Hot Cake seems like it could work
3. I've recently tried out the Epiphone Casino and for the money it plays very nicely...and it's fit/finish looked pretty good. I might pick one up to scratch my semi-hollow itch. Plus that also ticks off P90s!
4. Do you already have a small-ish amp head? If so, use that with a small 1x12. TKS in Sweden make nice lightweight ceramic loaded cabs for a good price, and the GK Neo112 II is s a good price.
5.
Interesting that you've decided matching headstocks because YOU like them, not all your customers will agree. I'm fiddy/fiddy - some look great, some really don't.
I agree, some look great, some look...well, out of place, If you want a classic Fender look (despite it being available in the past) I think a natural headstock with nice choice wood for the whole neck is better.
6. What is the upcharge for a 'modern' tort plate? E.g. just the normal modern plastic guards? From looking at Telecaster guards (official ones) and Musicman guards, they seem to be about £25-40.
7. Stunning tones from these things.
8. Cool...nice to see a new American Standard model! http://www.talkbass.com/threads/american-standard-jaguar-bass.1082712/ No idea when it its the UK.
9. P - 1.75" dots Sonic Blue - Aged White Guard P - 1.75" dots Fiesta Red - Tort pg
10. I'm quite glad I don't really get on with the shape/feel of a Les Paul, as now I'm playing more guitar I was pondering what is next. I'll stick to Teles and Strats. Maybe an Epiphone Casino which probably had better QC than a Gibson.
11. I'm in the market for some pretty common guitars at the moment (Strat/Tele) and maybe buying both at once...as I've sold my old Tele. I'm really not sure who to shop with nowadays!
12. Practice practice practice....it will come. Especially when you know a bass line without even thinking about it. If you can play bass and hold a note for backing, you are almost there! Some people really can't sing, despite being fantastic musicians (my old drummer just had no clue he was out of tune.He tried singing lessons and it didn't work!) I must admit, the majority of the time it is probably easier to play rhythm guitar and sing rather than bass and sing...
13. Cheers all...I'm in no rush...just looking around
14. Hi all It doesn't have to be high gain, more the Brit Crunch...i'm thinking more Blur/Kasabian, maybe with the ability to have a little bit of grit all the way to quite fuzzy but still that classic Brit crunch. What type of pedal does this well? My Orange Dual Terror sound great but I'd like a pedal as well to be able to get different textures of gain and overdrive. I don't play anything super heavy plus most my guitar 'needs' are basically nice rhythm crunch, so nothing overly high gain or metal.. Thanks
15. PS - Telecaster now sold. New Telecaster needed! Albert Lee HH on order...mmmmm all rosewood neck.
16.
I saw Albert Lee live the other day at a village hall near Mansfield, Notts. He was on fire and playing his MusicMan through a Fender Tone Master amp....wow, what a sound and what a great player and singer too.
He is great! Such a nice chap as well.
17.
http://www.thefretbo...ster-600#latest Nice tele.....
Cheers!
18. Sounds like too much hard work...seemingly turning into an admin task! I dare say there are countless bands not doing this and avoiding tax at the same time. I am not one of them!
19. I'm not surprised said retailer aren't weighing it. They shift a lot of gear and I imagine this is just not what they do, which is crazy...as its a few seconds job. I've used them previously but I'm not sure I would again. Every big retailer should take a leaf out of Sweetwater's book in the USA. They weigh and take photos of almost every bass/guitar, and have a brilliant guitar gallery (which I go on to check what the colours look like instead of looking on the manufacturer's photoshopped images). If you are spending £1000+, it should be EXPECTED that you want additional information. I would take advantage of their returns policy, as to be honest, that is your only way of doing it, and its completely fine to do this. I've used digital kitchen scales before, but they aren't amazingly accurate....definitely better than nothing.
20.
After all the information that has been posted on Basschat about speakers and cab design by some very knowledgable contributors, I find it astounding that people still think that the sound of a rig is mostly dependent upon the cone size(s) of the speaker(s) in them. IME every cab sounds different and while cone size does have an effect it's just a part of all the factors that go to make up the "sound" of that cab. From what I've seen and heard I would say that cab size, and design is more important than the cone size of the speakers it's loaded with.
Absolutely...probably also why some 4x10s work quite well with some 1x15s, if they have been designed that way. It doesn't always work out well though.
21. It's worth bearing in mind that a friend's dad bought one of the double H pickup basses (L2000?) and it looked like a stunner in all natural finish. As with all companies, if it turns up with a problem, you don't really have much to worry about apart from them sorting it out. I'm quite suprised they haven't been more popular. For me, the humbucker tones sound great but not my usual tastes. I've seen the recent reviews online for the P bass they've re-released, and for me it isn't Fendery enough. That's me though...and its only a youtube demo.
22. This is why I avoided Gibson. I had a look at a few SG's recently, and theit paintjobs looks very rushed. Pretty low prices though, for some of their basses.
23.
Can you link me a few please? I've missed those.
It would involve a few searches on Talkbass....there was one chap recently who waited months and months, then sent it back, then something else happened and I'm sure he had to get a third bass. I could be wrong. If you search G&L on Talkbass there should be a few things that come up. It's probably a very small percentage that don't turn up right.
24. I mean as in push the mids to the max level....mainly as the Bass Terror is then at 'flat' for mids....as you can only cut on it. You could always back off a little, and lower the bass as well. The tweeter/playing style/strings will have a massive effect on the treble and 'grind'.
