1.
jgmh, you need to learn how to properly quote other people's posts in your own, because I can'[t quote you quoting me to respond to your point. Anyhow, I think the black album was Metallica's finest hour, but I am not a dedicated fan of the band, as you may have already guessed. There were some really imaginative and well-crafted songs on that album , and, most importantly, it was accessible. By contrast, the rest of their catalog is, by-and-large, pretty stolid and impenetrable to most casual listeners. That black album heralded a new era in that genre of music , coming out as it did at the very time when metal was looking for a new direction after all those monstrous hair metal bands. That was Metallica's finest hour, and they have been trading on the success of that record ever since. I am sure liking heavy metal doesn't make you socially retarded in itself, but Metallica do seem to appeal to a disproportionately large number of electronic engineering students who wear their keys on a fob attached to their belt loops, I grew up liking heavy rock music, and I am indeed severely socially retarded as a direct result. If you give a twelve year old boy a Judas Priest album and a bottle of cider and leave him to get on with it you are unlikely to get a good long- term outcome. I am living proof of that social experiment. That is why I am on my own , up at five am typing bollocks about Metallica when I don't even like them . If I had listened to something a bit more mainstream when I was younger then I might have been on an exotic holiday with Martine McCutcheon right now, or something along those lines
These posts are brilliant!
 2. I have the TH pedal and if you want some sparkle, the TH tends to smooth it out. That's the TH tone carried into the TH 500. I would personally try a different amp if you want a lot more detail in the highs.
 3. I tried an early Compact and yes, I'd need a tweeter or mid driver for some more clarity. Even though I have an Orange OBC115 which seemed to have more bite than the Compact. I wanted it as a one cab solution for certain gigs. I realise times have moved on and I am genuinely interested to know what the BB2 sounds like. All previous expectations are now in the past so is start fresh. As long as there is enough bite and the build is better the BB2 might be a good cab for me.
 4. Dingus you are on a roll today!
 5.
I'm afraid I've succumbed to the GAS and am sorting out a Classic Sabre in this configuration as we speak!! Blue burst is one of my favourite colours. A mahogany bodied Sabre with a gunstock oil and wax finished figured roasted maple neck sounds fabulous to me. The single H Bongo is also rather appealing.
Nice! I'd love to try a Sabre. Can you PM me or put on thread what the 'upcharge' is for the fact its a PDN bass? Cheers
 6. It always end up being offended owners vs those who aren't so taken with the cabs.
 7.
ANy idea on UK availability and price? I think I'm in love
You can order through most stores, as long as its before the window shuts (think its early June). I'm checking with Promenade Music at the mo.
 8.
yep... and the amps and cabs section updates can be dominated with their NCD etc threads and posts.
+1
 9.
On the hard shoulder? Barefaced threads always seem to polarise opinion on this forum for some reason - I'm really not sure why - jealousy, perhaps? If you don't like the idea of Barefaced cabs and don't agree with Alex's philosophy, then don't buy one. Simples. I'm sure Alex won't be bothered in the least - he's too busy trying to keep up with demand.
It definitely polarises opinion. Some do get very passionate one way or the other!
 10.
A modular, 4 ohm, 6x10 - costing £1200?! Not sure that's a particularly big section of the market...
No, very doubtful, I agree, but using the same speakers and not having to change specs makes business sense to me.
 11.
always saw Glasto as an indie/lightweight/totally uninteresting festival (the opposite of Donington in its heyday), so this news is now upsetting all my prejudices! I guess I better concentrate on Megadeth, then
After a fair few festivals (not as many as I'd like) I can honestly say the party is definitely at Glastonbury...whereas the metal festivals tend to be quite cliche and a bit 'rough and ready'.
 12. I understand it may mean that your amp isn't running so 'hot', I just don't see why getting less from your amp would mean it is definitely louder than most 8 ohm 2x10s... I'm guessing three of these would mean a 4 ohm load? Hence the same speakers as the 6x10? So, in a way, its just another way to make a cab without having a different spec speaker? (Makes business sense I guess, for money purposes).
 13.
Looking at it from a different view, if you were to use 2 12Ω cabs, you're not running a 4Ω amp to it's minimum load, therefor not putting such a strain on the components.
That's not really what the amp was built for though, is it? Not running your amp at full tilt thus not straining it isn't something that would attract me into a sale.
 14. I never really 'got' the Bongo until I saw some decent hi res pictures of it from different angles. I then realised they looked very sleek and quite cool in a way. From a playing point of view, the ergonomics are just superb. I am tempted for a simple 4 H model....as they are quite rare anyway!
 15. If you ever wanted a maple fretboard Bongo...well now is your chance... http://www.music-man.com/premier-dealer-network-instruments/guitars/pdn-neptune-blue.html
 16. Absolutely bizarre...its good that Glastonbury has such a diverse mixture of music, but I can't imagine this being a good idea... I've been to metal festivals when I was very young, and grown up with festivals like Glastonbury, and it does usually attract quite different people. Not sure what those who have tickets will think. I definitely think this year is their weakest lineup for a long time.
 17.
Therein lies the rub, perhaps? More "popular" but not necessarily what Barefaced want to achieve? To achieve their sonic goal this is obviously their best solution...?
I'm just taking this a little more from a market point of view; most people wanting a sealed 8x10 vibe in a small 2x10 box will just pickup an 8 ohm Ampeg SVT 2x10 AV and save a fair bit of cash? I'm also not saying 'popular' equates to better, but 16 ohms is an odd one. I wouldn't be worried about using an amp through it, I just don't see the advantage? If you are aiming for a smaller version of the new 6x10, you wouldn't probably then want 3 x 210s....it would cost more and mean three little boxes to try and stack up, etc. I just think an 8 ohm 2x10 would have made more sense, and add another if you want to make a little 4x10 stack?
 18. I don't understand why it has to be 12 ohms??? Wouldn't it be more 'popular' just to make a simple lightweight 2x10???
 19.
Anyone used DPD for sending stuff? Having stuff delivered by them is marvelous. Best tracking system out of any courier by far. As far a restricted items, musical instruments aren't on their list.
I've experienced DPD and they are the best courier out there. I only get things like ASOS clothing delivered but they are the first courier to go properly 'modern'. You get a one hour window by email/text, you can trace the van on a map, and you can even see what number yor delivery is and if its getting closer. If you know you aren't in, you just change it online. No additional charges. It's the way the ALL should be by now.
 20.
Why this rather than the celebrated '69er? The Retro Six10 is more sensitive (six bass drivers rather than five plus the boost from the hybrid resonator enclosure), has a smoother more flattering treble response, punchier fatter mids and a bigger weightier bottom. Hmmmmm. So it's more sensitive (= louder? who needed it to be louder?), and it has better treble, better mids, and better bottom. All at once. I thought cabs were always a trade-off? To make one thing better, something else had to be less good ...
That description to me sounds like less treble but more of everything else. I assume it might be more economical to make, and perhaps cheaper to buy?
 21. Awful delivery service. Literally awful. I never use them. They turn up around here at around 17:30...usually just some guy dressed like he has been decorating in a works van. Bizarre.
 22. Great seller, willing to help, very trustworthy and great at packing gear! Cheers
 23.
Pretty common on MIJ instruments from the 60s onwards, not sure who used it first but you see it on a lot of early Kawais and Guyatones. Same with the 6-bolt neckplate. J.
I think Sadowsky uses them but Fender don't seem to...which is daft.
 24. As much as some of it might be minor innovation, I still think the EBMM company as a whole are like no other bass/guitar company in that they: - Don't just mass produce - virtually everything is ordered by a customer; - They attempt to make everything in house; - They try new ideas, all the time, and their electronics are, IMO, faultless. E.g., Bongo 4 band EQ, neo pups in the Bongo/Big Al, crazy switching on the Big Al/Reflex, and the Gamechanger bass; - Ergonomics - they just 'work'...; - Bongo bass shape and overall idea - pushing the boundaries and still pleasing a lot of players despite the shape and style; - Truss rod wheel. Every bass should have this; - Never letting things stay stale; - Armada Guitar and Majesty Guitar.....
