Barefaced Cabs - Retro six10 and Retro Two2
Musicman20 replied to JamesBass's topic in Amps and Cabs
On the hard shoulder? Barefaced threads always seem to polarise opinion on this forum for some reason - I'm really not sure why - jealousy, perhaps? If you don't like the idea of Barefaced cabs and don't agree with Alex's philosophy, then don't buy one. Simples. I'm sure Alex won't be bothered in the least - he's too busy trying to keep up with demand.
It definitely polarises opinion. Some do get very passionate one way or the other! -
A modular, 4 ohm, 6x10 - costing £1200?! Not sure that's a particularly big section of the market...
No, very doubtful, I agree, but using the same speakers and not having to change specs makes business sense to me. -
always saw Glasto as an indie/lightweight/totally uninteresting festival (the opposite of Donington in its heyday), so this news is now upsetting all my prejudices! I guess I better concentrate on Megadeth, then
After a fair few festivals (not as many as I'd like) I can honestly say the party is definitely at Glastonbury...whereas the metal festivals tend to be quite cliche and a bit 'rough and ready'. -

I understand it may mean that your amp isn't running so 'hot', I just don't see why getting less from your amp would mean it is definitely louder than most 8 ohm 2x10s... I'm guessing three of these would mean a 4 ohm load? Hence the same speakers as the 6x10? So, in a way, its just another way to make a cab without having a different spec speaker? (Makes business sense I guess, for money purposes). -
Looking at it from a different view, if you were to use 2 12Ω cabs, you're not running a 4Ω amp to it's minimum load, therefor not putting such a strain on the components.
That's not really what the amp was built for though, is it? Not running your amp at full tilt thus not straining it isn't something that would attract me into a sale. -
I never really 'got' the Bongo until I saw some decent hi res pictures of it from different angles. I then realised they looked very sleek and quite cool in a way. From a playing point of view, the ergonomics are just superb. I am tempted for a simple 4 H model....as they are quite rare anyway!

Metallica - off to never never Glastonbury land
Musicman20 replied to KiOgon's topic in General Discussion
Absolutely bizarre...its good that Glastonbury has such a diverse mixture of music, but I can't imagine this being a good idea... I've been to metal festivals when I was very young, and grown up with festivals like Glastonbury, and it does usually attract quite different people. Not sure what those who have tickets will think. I definitely think this year is their weakest lineup for a long time. -
Therein lies the rub, perhaps? More "popular" but not necessarily what Barefaced want to achieve? To achieve their sonic goal this is obviously their best solution...?
I'm just taking this a little more from a market point of view; most people wanting a sealed 8x10 vibe in a small 2x10 box will just pickup an 8 ohm Ampeg SVT 2x10 AV and save a fair bit of cash? I'm also not saying 'popular' equates to better, but 16 ohms is an odd one. I wouldn't be worried about using an amp through it, I just don't see the advantage? If you are aiming for a smaller version of the new 6x10, you wouldn't probably then want 3 x 210s....it would cost more and mean three little boxes to try and stack up, etc. I just think an 8 ohm 2x10 would have made more sense, and add another if you want to make a little 4x10 stack? -

I don't understand why it has to be 12 ohms??? Wouldn't it be more 'popular' just to make a simple lightweight 2x10??? -
Anyone used DPD for sending stuff? Having stuff delivered by them is marvelous. Best tracking system out of any courier by far. As far a restricted items, musical instruments aren't on their list.
I've experienced DPD and they are the best courier out there. I only get things like ASOS clothing delivered but they are the first courier to go properly 'modern'. You get a one hour window by email/text, you can trace the van on a map, and you can even see what number yor delivery is and if its getting closer. If you know you aren't in, you just change it online. No additional charges. It's the way the ALL should be by now. -
Why this rather than the celebrated '69er? The Retro Six10 is more sensitive (six bass drivers rather than five plus the boost from the hybrid resonator enclosure), has a smoother more flattering treble response, punchier fatter mids and a bigger weightier bottom. Hmmmmm. So it's more sensitive (= louder? who needed it to be louder?), and it has better treble, better mids, and better bottom. All at once. I thought cabs were always a trade-off? To make one thing better, something else had to be less good ...
That description to me sounds like less treble but more of everything else. I assume it might be more economical to make, and perhaps cheaper to buy? -

Awful delivery service. Literally awful. I never use them. They turn up around here at around 17:30...usually just some guy dressed like he has been decorating in a works van. Bizarre. -
Great seller, willing to help, very trustworthy and great at packing gear! Cheers

The Greatest Bass Designer Of All Time, Ever. (Part two)
Pretty common on MIJ instruments from the 60s onwards, not sure who used it first but you see it on a lot of early Kawais and Guyatones. Same with the 6-bolt neckplate. J.
I think Sadowsky uses them but Fender don't seem to...which is daft. -
The Greatest Bass Designer Of All Time, Ever. (Part two)

As much as some of it might be minor innovation, I still think the EBMM company as a whole are like no other bass/guitar company in that they: - Don't just mass produce - virtually everything is ordered by a customer; - They attempt to make everything in house; - They try new ideas, all the time, and their electronics are, IMO, faultless. E.g., Bongo 4 band EQ, neo pups in the Bongo/Big Al, crazy switching on the Big Al/Reflex, and the Gamechanger bass; - Ergonomics - they just 'work'...; - Bongo bass shape and overall idea - pushing the boundaries and still pleasing a lot of players despite the shape and style; - Truss rod wheel. Every bass should have this; - Never letting things stay stale; - Armada Guitar and Majesty Guitar..... -
Nice one mate! I have an ACG being built right now and I'm planning on having one pickup in the MM position and one in the PB position, trying to ape the tones of both a Musicman and Precision bass in one, I expect the layout will end up similar to what you have there, if a positioned a little closer to the neck. Eude
Best tones in bass, good idea.

Don't need the midi connection now so going to go straight for the Line 6 Sonic Port soon.
No one on here got one?
I have a passive tone control on my Big Al and my (for sale) Gamechanger bass. The Stingray tone on the GC is spot on, and in passive, it still sounds full, meaty and warm, but with a more woody and 'blends into the mix' type tone.

Ernie Ball Musicman Reflex Gamechanger Bass Guitar Immaculate - 4 String HH Model £1350.00 plus postage, or available to pick up. Trade value of £1800 against high end fivers (and some 4 string basses), especially Musicman, Sadowsky, Fender CS. I would consider a Musicman 4 string IF its the right bass (e.g. a Classic Stingray). However, I'm trying to stick to covers for most my basses. Feel free to PM though. This bass is the top of the line of Musicman basses. Standard spec is here: http://www.music-man...me-changer.html Gamechanger information is here: http://gamechanger.m...man.com/home.eb Immaculate condition. It still has the factory sticker/barcodes/factory instruction stickers. Not one mark…as new. Firstly, lets get the bots we want most out the way. Weight - Website states around 8 lbs 14 oz. I've tried weighing it a few ways/few times with Wii Fit and kitchen scales. See pic below - 4136g - 9.1 lbs. Approx. between 8.5 and just over 9 lbs (9.1) depending on position on scales and how it was held. Balance - Perfect balance. I tried a few different strap positions, and with a normal EB strap without padding or 'stickiness' to stop instruments moving, it is perfectly balanced. This ir probably due to the smaller headstock and new Musicman lightweight tuners (noted below). The 25th Anniversary Bass, before the Reflex came out, did not have these new tuners (although they had a certain model different from a Stingray) and I believe there was talk of neck dive. Not so with this new model. Spot on, comfortable, balanced, usual EBMM perfection when it comes to ergonomics. It's a thick gloss black with stunning cream binding. Perfect quality control, perfect neck to body match up, dark rosewood board, new Musicman tuners (now on the Bongo/Big Al/Reflex and this model). Matching gloss black headstock. Gamechanger logo on the rear, additional inputs for Midi and the USB cable. The world is your oyster with this bass! Perfect balance and lighter than most Stingray's I've played. It's a nice low-mid weight, no scales to weigh at the moment though, sorry. HH Pickups – The same as the Reflex 4 HH. One of the best Stingray bridge tones I've ever heard. That, and a boatload of other tones. You can get anything out of it. 4 band active EQ, or completely passive settings with passive tone control. The bridge pup IS in the Stingray sweet spot. The mahogany tone block really does add a certain something. The passive tones are what really surprised me…very balanced, good balance between active/passive switching, etc. They have really gone to town with the sound of the bass. Setup – Low actions, very very fast neck. See the specs for the neck/nut sizes etc. It feels faster than a Stingray to me. Gamechanger - USB – I've updated the bass to the latest version. Basically you go to the Gamechanger site above, go to the Web App, plug in, and then you change all of your pickup settings. You can save them, experiment with them, change the Z Bank settings, download other user settings, etc. With some kit you can also do this via Bluetooth or connected to an iPad/iPhone as they have an iOS App now. You can do this once every now and then, mid gig, or never! Up to you. Stock, it has about 25 already preset amazing tones. ALL ANALOG. NO DIGITAL EMULATION. All pups can be activated (basically 4 coils) in whatever settings you want, in any order, in phase, out of phase, series/parallel. Anything from modern Stingray zing, to a warm fat Gibson/Fender neck tone. Flick of the switch, it changes. Midi – MANY possibilities to control many different things! Check the website for information. Without the Gamechanger, this bass has all the passive presets, all the active presets (on the 5 way switch) plus the Z Bank which can be set to anything you want. The Z bank is currently Musicman's idea of great passve tones. It is incredibly easy to use this bass. Not complicated, and very fun for a tweaker who likes to play with tones. Why am I selling it? I want it in a fiver so I'm going to save up for when they make them! Comes with its Musicman case, case keys, usb cable and the hang tags. The bass is as new, as stated. The case is in 'good' condition but not perfect, (virtually not scratches but a small dink in one corner...nothing that is bad). Strung with new Ernie Ball nickel strings. Recently setup professionally this weekend. I am more than happy to demo if someone is local (North East), and I can post as I have a decent box and packaging ready. This bass will impress! These are roughly £2300.00 at the moment. Any questions, message me. I am willing to ship, no problem. I may ship to Europe but will have to negotiate postage. I would prefer it if the buyer organised the shipping but this can be negotiated. Lastly, it can be picked up.

Oh my...just thinking about two DB212s....(owned before but this time it would be two 4 ohm cabs). Mmmmm
