Another should I leave my band thread?
Musicman20 replied to waynepunkdude's topic in General Discussion
It did sound nice, I am used to playing with Marshall JCM2000's hence the huge Ampeg head, it was nice to just blend rather than fight for once.
I am currently quite happy as the one guitarist we have uses the new Orange Thunder 30, so I only have that and a 4x12 of some kind to be mindful of with volume. Yes, 30 watts in guitar valve wattage is VERY loud through a 4x12, but the tube distortion is much smoother, organic and warm compared to the hi-gain Marshalls and Peavey amps Im used to. Plus he uses a lot of clean compared to what Im used to...again its a nice change! I dont battle with volume at all now, in fact a few times Ive been asked to turn down! -
How many different Basschat Bass Bashes are there?

National Bash in a central location would be great! -
The AD200b is hand made in the UK, as are most of the cabinets they offer. If you like the tone of the Orange, go for it. If you aren't sure, check Matamp for sure! Most of the actual parts to virtually all amps are from overseas. Regarding mixing speakers, I personally don't care...the 4x10 sounds fantastic with the 1x15 and both work well on their own for different flavours. They sound, IMO, much better than the Ampeg 810E I used to own. It's all down to personal taste.

Cool! Thanks!

In addition, the new Genz 212T is vinyl covered.

Im guessing we are talking £1500+...is the fliptop a system where the actual cab is part of it? If so, make it more like £1800+. Nice gear though, im glad Ashdown are taking new amps on. Basically, they are giving us what Ampeg havent for a long time...and Im guessing it is UK made?
All round?
I think I meant best value/low weight/tone ratio...eg you cant beat the LM2/3 for a nice warm, clean and easy to use amp, esp for the price I just wish Markbass has the customer service levels of Genz Benz.
-
How cool is that?! Tbh, the LM3 is probably the best value 'all round' amp on the market still.

IMO, the 10" will be a worthwhile upgrade. No doubt the 12" is the best if you want to gig the combo, and Id add the same 12" extension cab or a Neo X112T.

Im late to the party! Sorry. Sack him, if you really cant get on. Keep the drummer. Guitarists are everywhere, as are vocalists (when it comes to the punk/hardcore scene anyway). Hope it sorts itself out. -
Than new 3.8lb 500w Aguilar looks like it might be interesting, too...
+1, and if they keep it as high quality and MIA as usual, it will be very popular! Also it's listed as $699 approx so it's going to be a competitive price.
About that.
Cheers. I need to hear one before I consider it as i expected it to be no more than £750 but I'll await the reviews etc
What kind of situation is going to need 900 watts?!
Tbh it'll be more like 600-650 from something like a MB head.

Are there any cheap(ish) small 500watt power amps?
Musicman20 replied to dave_bass5's topic in Amps and Cabs
Cheers Gareth. I cant decide what i want to do. Im selling the LMII as i dont use it at the moment and could do with the money. I will need a small head at some point next year though. If i go that route then i dont want to spend much as it might only be used 3 or 4 times. The other option is to spend more but get rid of my SA450 as well. If i do that then something like the Shuttle would be perfect as ill use it every week and can also carry it around. Im also interested in Clarky's TC classic but i need to look in to that and see what the pro's and cons are, and aslo how it will differ tone wise from the MB heads.....and find the money of course.
Ah, got ya. If you fancy a change, the Shuttle 9.0 would be different, as would the TC amps. If you sold the SA450, the 9.0 and Classic would make a nice, but different sounding, pair of amps. Of course, thats if you still want two amps, and if you want to sell the SA450! -
Hi Clarky. Do you have any thoughts on how the tone of this compares to the MB LMII? Im selling my LMII as its not used but will still keep my SA450 as my main head. I do quite fancy this TC head but if i brought it i would probably want to use it as my main amp. As i use my BDDI all the time now i think im ready for something with a bit more character, and this looks ideal. Its just a thought at the moment, i still need to move the LMII first. Cheers.
Hi Dave I can chime in. The Classic/RH450 seems to have a really nice thick low mid 'meat' to it. It does sound quite different to the LMII/III. Id say its got a little more character to the tone, less 'flat' and more like a tradtional old school amp. It can also do the 'quick' sound of modern amps as its Class D, but with a different slant on it. The tone is warm, and the whole 'tube' amp idea is pulled off very well. BTW - It does sound stunning with a Jazz/Precision. You may find you dont use your BDDI as much as the onboard grit is quite nice especially at the sweetspot of about 10 o'clock.

Musicman20 replied to dave_bass5's topic in Amps and Cabs
Hmm....personally if you want uber light and pretty powerful, the Shuttle 9.0 can be had for the Nov price drop price of £615 ish....if you ask nicely. That way you have the power of that amp, or the full amp itself, plus its super light. Or, SWR 400W power amp? -
900 on order
How much are they? £850?

Streamliner 600 also being released.
The SVT CL doesn't break up as much as I'd like. Having said that playing over the bridge pick up helps, but I've never played in that position and I find it really odd.
Ah, I see. Im guessing youd have to be very loud to get it to break up. Thats one of the advantages I liked with the Orange amp; even at a low volume (practice volume) you can crank the gain right up and it breaks up nicely.
-
something sealed
I agree, plus crank the amp til it breaks up a little. Can you keep the master down whilst cranking the gain? Ive not used an SVT-CL indepth to be honest, only had a few chances to test one. You are definitely on the right track!
They're not mutually exclusive, you know!
Unfortunately in the genres Ive played in recently, there has been a strange 'understanding' between bands and venues that the venue/promoter are doing YOU a favour by letting you play. Shocking really. We did get into some scrapes over this in Nottingham when the promoter was stashing about £1000 into a bag and wouldnt even throw us £20 for petrol. Ive even seen it spreading into more commercial indie gigs....basically the bands paying to play their own gig. Hopefully this wont continue for the rest of my life! Until it does, I always turn up when I can, I dont make special arrangements to leave work early now as its never appreciated!
-
I would have been pretty furious if im honest. I hate pointless sound checks. As Im never paid for gigs, (played originals most my life) I turn up when I want normally. I feel your frustration!
