just bought this as it was too much of a good deal to resist http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...T#ht_719wt_1141
Oh yes....YES.
The Big Al bass is high on my list (if only somewhere actually had them in stock!!!)
Darren at the Bass Merchant has a very pretty blue one/matching headstock last time I checked if you need to try one out to see if you like it. -
Another update guys. New tonehammer 500 alongside Aggy's newest cab, the SL112. MASSSSSSIIIIIVVVVVVEEEEEE GAS ATTACK!
That is one stunning setup, aesthetically speaking. I hope it sounds as good as I expect It sure looks damn cool. To add to the new amps for 2011, see my thread near this. New Genz Benz Shuttle Max 9.0!

Revealed here, but no pictures: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=723017 Kinda glad I didnt jump on a 9.0 now....Ill wait and see what the Streamliner 900 and Shuttlemax 9.0 are like before making anymore decisions.

Have you seen the rosewood/maple combination fretboard on the Dingwall site?!
-
This doesnt seem right. I know the headphone out has a speaker emulator (I think) and the sound I get is fantastic. It seems odd that it is fizzy..it should only distort if you have you gain too high or the tubetone cranked. Hmmm, is the cable ok?
Don't forget the GB 9.0. Incredible piece of gear. Yesterday i cranked it at my drummers garage (where we reharse). I putted it trough two HK full range PA tops (1x15" + 1.5" horn, i think, don't remember the model) with 450W@8ohm each and still i couldn't crank the amp all the way because the cabs started to fart . The look on my drummers face - a mix of fear and surprise - was priceless, the entire garage was trembling! I can assure anybody that the 9.0 doesn't have any low end problems, it was all there without the need to resort to EQ! This new Aggie line looks awesome. If they had come out two months ago i would have trouble choosing betwen a Aggie or a GB rig! I know a lot of peolple on my side of the pond who will jump on them when they get to the stores - just hope i can resist the GAS! Theres a pic somewhere in the TB thread wit a stack of the TH head with two 1x12 neo cabs... ...that is surely a lot of people's wet dream!
Id like a 9.0, and I have no doubt about them being great, but at the moment Im going to give it a long wait until the next new line of amps.
-
The BT500 is loud. The RH450 is loud. Once you put it through enough speakers, the issue of 'how loud can my amp go' doesnt really matter, as it will be loud anyway! Hope you enjoy the BT.
-
It sure is a looker. Apparently they retail for about $700-800, which means its actually in a very competitive position. For me, its between this, the Genz Streamliner, and whatever TC and Markbass come up with for my next new amp. Wont be until at least mid 2011 mind, when Ive had chance to read reviews etc.

What's the best bass for a great 'B' string?
Musicman20 replied to thebrig's topic in General Discussion
I'd take all talk about great 'B' strings on a lot of basses with a pinch of salt. I'd have to hear it.
+1. Id try them out if I were you. I have different experiences to everyone else. We all have different definitions of what makes a great bass. Don't be too hung up on getting the best B out there. Why? Because the rest of the strings are just as important. I didnt realise this until after reading an interview with Paul Turner, who apparently favours 4s but uses a 5 for some tracks. His comments were that its important to have an eveness and consistency throughout the strings, eg some basses can have amazing whomping Bs, but rather average on the rest of the strings! You want a smooth transition from one string to another, so its not so obvious like 'hey im playing my BBBBBBBB string now!!!'.
The best B in my opinion was one of the first 5 string basses - the Musicman Stingray. Its not that heavy but probably a bit too heavy for you if your looking for something a bit more lightweight.
The Ray 5 is the industry standard 5, and this is why I thought Id like it. I do, luckily, its a very even instrument, and the string spacing really works for me. The B doesnt scream 'wow this is a BBBBB string', its just as clear as the other strings, which is what I wanted. Sure, if you have your amp on fairly loud, that B string sounds thunderous, but to a certain extent a lot of them will. My personal experience with Lakland was the DJ5 and JO5, both 35" scale. It does feel a little odd, but you can get used to it very quickly. My gripe was that the Bs felt quite....hmm, they were VERY bassy, very prominant....almost a little too slack. That could have been anything though, so test some and see how you feel. My hands felt like they were really working hard on the 35" scale, but only after a lonnnng test. I do think an active bass can make quite a difference in the world of B strings. Its not necessarily the EQ, its the sheer power when you pluck it lightly. -
Musicman20 can you tell if this is going to be the earlier version with the old pup or the later one as you say?, It sounds like I would prefer the one with the alnico pup. The blurb says its alnico but as its secondhand they might of just lifted that from anything its certainly not aged yellow for a start! Or is there a way of telling when we get there in the morning? Thanks for the advice in advance. http://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/bass_guitars...1#ProductDetail This is winning at the moment for me both on price and Im liking the white its very festive I will update either tomorrow or sunday as I have a gig saturday night so might not have time for pics and as we know without them it dont exist! Whatever it is its coming straight out the box and into a 2 hour set for my first time on a fiver, wish me luck...
Hmm, it looks like it might be pretty recent. It has the barcode and serial number stickers still on it. EBMM forum could give you an exact date. Are you coming to Newcastle to test it?! The easiest way to tell is if the middle position on the selector sounds like a Jazz single coil (ish) then thats the earlier Ceramic version. Pre 08 Ceramic (eg Sterling 4 magnets and now Sterling 5) selector switch on single H = Closest to bridge is both coils parallel, middle position is single coil closest to bridge + phantom, closest to neck is both coils in series. Post 08 Alnico (eg Ray 4 magnets) selector switch on single H = Closest to bridge is both coils parallel, middle position is both coils in series plus filter, closest to neck is both coils in series. The only way to get a new Ray 5 with the ability to have the bridge pickup solo'd is to get the Ray 5 HS....the Ray 5 H and HH wont give you any single coil options. All depends what floats your boat -
You could get the TC and add 3 x RS210 cabs...it WILL power all three no problems. Only works with TC cabs. MASSSSSIVE sound.

Great, and I hope its fine I have a delivery coming tomorrow and I plan (if it gets here) to leave it alone still wrapped up for a good half day at least.

Just realised that Yamaha goes stereo. Woah...what does that sound like?!
-
Hmm, not sure what I would do. Sell the 2x10, get another 4x10? Or, get an amp to drive that 4x10 nicely at 8 ohms, eg the Pro 7, or a Genz Shuttle 9.0. Alternatively, wait around a little and get the 900w Genz Benz Streamliner. Im not anti-Ampeg, I just think you can get the same thing from a smaller/lighter box. You could sell both your cabs and get a 6x10 or 8x10... My friend uses the SVT Pro 3 in a VERY loud band. He also uses a 410E, and finds he REALLY has to crank the amp to almost full master to get it to cut through. Not sure what the deal is there. I think the modern Ampeg amps are given higher wattage ratings than they are capable of.

Att all iPad, iPhone and iPod - TC Polytune Owners
Musicman20 replied to Grand Wazoo's topic in Accessories and Misc
I had the original 'free' download version when it came out (when they had a batch on special offer) but then Apple replaced my iPhone and I totally forgot to replace this tuner. They sent the email as GW has pointed out above, and I realised I needed to update....then I realised my new iPhone doesnt have it! What was even better was when I clicked download, because I got it for free originally, it was still free to re-download it. Technology is great! Fantastic tuner. -
Nice setup! I remember pointing these combos out to you a while back...I hope its worked out because the price is just fantastic! Im shocked at how cheap they are.

Markbass Little Mark Tube OR Markbass Little Rocker??
Musicman20 replied to ajerthebadger's topic in Amps and Cabs
+ a lot to trying them for yourself: there are so many other variables particular to yourself (bass, style, string attack, cab, etc, etc) that comparisons are only a very very vague guide - I side-by-side tested the Tube, Rocker, Genz Benz and TC stuff, and ended up with the TC. The Rocker I found didn't have much range of tube - kinda 0-2 gives some pretty good tubey warmness, then 2-10 was just fizz. The Tube was the reverse; so subtle it was, well, too subtle for me. Ironic that I found the best tube-preamp-type was the one without an actual tube in it... YMMV, IMHO, etc, etc...
Haha, that is odd! The LM3 sounds warm and like a tube amp running clean in some respects. LMTube 'tube' is VERY subtle. I couldnt tell the difference, but I like the chassis and features. I havent tested the Rocker, but I think Markbass are just solid at making good light clean amps, so I stick with the LM3. The Genz Shuttle 9.0 is not at all tube like from what I heard. Very precise, zingy, clean, but the pre-tube CAN add some grind if you have a hot output. Agreed, the best tube 'sound' is on the TC RH450 Tubetone knob. Just works, and I have no idea how they managed it. Probably similar to how great the Sansamp pedals are. If I didnt own a Markbass amp, id go for the LM3 or F500 straight away. -

5 String bass? Purchase has been made!
Musicman20 replied to stingrayPete1977's topic in Bass Guitars
I bet if you asked you could get a Ray 5 HS, as mentioned above, or HH, with your choice of plate, for £1400. Its all a case of offering, and coming to a deal, as Im sure you know. The new 08 onwards Stingray 5s have the Alnico Ray pups, and the normal Ray 5 pups are now in the Sterling 5. So it will DEFINITELY sound like a Ray, and the extra pickups really are nice....if you like single coils eg single coil at bridge (splitting the MM H pup) or a combination, or a P like S near the neck, then the HS just a stunning beast. What I love about the Musicman 5s is that the pickups just ooze quality. Massive, meaty, and awesome tone. One thing to note, because of the changes in 2008, the Ray 5 Single H does NOT allow you to have a single coil tone at the bridge anymore. It used to....now its another version of serial or parallel mode, not sure which. This makes it a no brainer for me...HS.
