1. I had a Wesley 5 string. Sounded and played great. Was kinda heavy being about 15lb but I didn't expect to play it all night. It stops being a talking point for the audience if they see it all night. Short bursts is good for them and your shoulder
2. A set of Hofner short scale strings just arrived from Peter. Easiest fella to deal with so I'm sure there will be more business in the future.
3. Lovely set of TI's just arrived from Roman. Whole transaction was a breeze, Look forward to dealing with him again.
4. Never been up for effects but I got bored over the holidays A look at Spartan Music's clone pedal page ended up with this lot. Strictly for home use and pedal arrangement needs re-doing. Bottom l-r Kobbo Clean Boost, couple of Joyo drive,Joyo chorus/drive and compressor. Top row r-l Rowin noise gate, Mooer phase & envelople filter,Donner flanger,Mooer octaver and a bloody noisy Rowin EQ. Ends up through Doc J DI/EQ Drive thingy.
5. I'd really love to chip in but I've never read any of the music press in probably 30 year so no idea who's critically acclaimed but crap. Plenty I think are crap but that's not the point
6.
Oh well, that's made me look twat hasn't it!
Come on, that's being a bit hard on yourself
7. I'm over the moon Rikki. A wee look on TB turned up nothing much bar the Wild Thing was discontinued and some fella bleating " is it 30" or 32" " several times. It's 30" and weighing 5lbs it's the hollow body construction. Sounding great with the flats but I've discovered Fender VI bass strings fit,you just bin the top 2, so I've a set ordered. The seller said the scratchplate had been damaged but repaired, think it was originally white and there's a mark round the jack socket where it looks like it was snapped. The repair is a black film stuck over the scratchplate, don't want to jinx things so I'm thinking a white pinstripe round the edge is mod enough.
8.
I think Meatloaf had a great voice for those songs at the time. Bonnie Tyler had a great voice for her songs, but I couldn't see it in many Meatloaf/Jim Steinman songs. 9. It'll never catch on. Twin necks are always too heavy,
10. Definitely a snip. Feel the action on E could do with raising and intonation's out a wee bit. Bridge pickup needs lowered too. Biggest concern is getting fibres all over it from the felt plectrums I bought yesterday White scratchplate would look fantastic.
11. Not a really a GAS attack more a mild "quite fancy one" itch Over the years I've looked on and off at Danos, never really fancied the longhorns and some of the other models are getting pricey.Never been awfy struck on short scales either but there's a quirkyness to these things. That appeals to me big time An idle look at eBay on Sunday showed nothing but I hit "save search".Monday morning alert on a Wild Thing appears.£140 or best offer ?? It's quirky enough for me so offer in,accepted and paid for.Took about a minute. Thoughts of couriers and hardboard basses terrified me. All groundless as the seller knew what he was about.Estimated 7 days turned out to be nonsense, got collected yesterday and arrived today lunchtime. The what felt like empty cardboard box revealed masses of bubblewrap,as to be expected, but the bass was sandwiched between 4" of foam underlay What a great way of shipping something as fragile as this. Dinky wee thing with killer curves. Wonder how it'll sound with roundwounds ?
12. I don't think I've ever agreed with so many opinions on BC before
13. Same here Dunky. Seemed like it every time I went for a teenth it was playing
14. Almost everything sold in the Britannia Record club catalogue. Music for the same folks that bought books by the yard.
15. I'm more perplexed by the other "custom" build showing below it. Does rotating a tuner and cutting half the scratchplate away mean custom. Okay it's £100 for a Concord but still !! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Custom-built-electric-bass-guitar-j048800050071sh/162347250382?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D40794%26meid%3Dccc34f6d8f3448999f2063601bd35586%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D222373516446
16. Sure thing Harry. Seymour Duncan https://soundcloud.com/subdude67/seymour-duncan-pickup Wilkinson https://soundcloud.com/subdude67/wilkinson-pickup
17. Had the PB-50 for a few years now. Great bass ,ended up buying 2 of them One with TI's and one with Hot Wire tapes. There was a good thread by discreet last year on them. Pretty certain there's a soundcloud link to my pal Claudios' A/B between the stock Wilkinson and a Duncan in the post. Fighting weight on my two is about 8.5lb with luggage scales from the £1shop
18. Never liked The Beatles but I'll still say do the gig. Liverpool's a great city so go and enjoy yourselves.
19. Fantastic. Just shows diligent checking pays off
20. Sounding great bassmachine2112. Extra points for using the highly technical term "baw hair"
21. So Macdonalds really make the best burgers.
22. Saw a white 3 octave fretless Tune Bass Maniac reviewed in Guitarist mag back in 84. Said to myself if I try fretless that'll be the one for me. Said it was £899. I was starting work on the YOP so 1 years wages Always keep an eye out for anything Tune related but to no avail. In 32 year I heard of just 3 ! One in Japan, one in Italy and an Australian fella who got his but the neck was knackered The replacement sent wasn't the 3 octave version.Danny at Bass Japan told me they were rare even over there. Things were looking bleak but never gave up looking Got up one Sunday morning last summer after an 800 mile drive and there it was eBay Japan . Most expensive thing I've ever bought but mind I'm a tight bastard So 32 year wait. Well worth it even if I'm crap on fretless
23. Brilliant. I'm now going to "unfollow" this thread afore it costs me £300 odds.
