Is there a Build Diaries thread?

Not likely but maybe I should, as a cautionary tale :-)

Oh, man... surely wrapping it in vinyl is still an option? :)

  2. There's also. The different shape body (long skinny horns Vs stubby slightly offset horns),made from basswood instead of alder. 12" radius fretboard instead of 8". BBOT bridge instead of the heavier one on the Zodiac. Oh and mucking about with 4mm allen keys to adjust the TR opposed to the Zodiac adjustment wheel.
  3. Was out and about again 😊 Is that the 2 part adjustable on ebay for £3.61 ? Keep meaning to try one of those. I bought quite a few different nuts but in the end just went for a 45mm brass and filed a bit off each end. Got one of these in the drawer for the rainy day. https://www.thomann.de/gb/abm_6250_webster_nut_bass.htm
  4. Sorry Jim was out and about. 64mm overall. Heel is just under 61mm,been a wee bit shrinkage over the years, so I couldn't go much wider. Nut on this fella was 43.5 so only a little filing was required. Main concern was strings still ran on fretboard and within pickup magnets. They do so happy Scotsman.
  5. Same neck Jim, swapped the nut for brass instead of the original steel. Changed the saddles for mono saddles, took a file to the sides for more room. Had to forego through body stringing but monos are through body or top loading. Had it strung with La Bella Jamerson flats for 18 month, neck handled it no problem.
  6. I converted one of my T40s to 5 strings. It wasn't difficult but did mean 16mm string spacing. I kept the original bridge plate, inside size is 83mm. Not being a super fast or too technical a player the spacing was fine. Worked out well I think.
  7. If the companies know they can make money from a signature bass of another signature bass then you can bet your backside they'll release one.
  8. Absolutely stunning.Without doubt the best NBD I've ever saw. Congratulations for having the high levels of taste required to order such a beauty.
  9. Year before last I bought loads of pedals, was gonna use the christmas holiday to learn what they do. Still no idea 😀 The 10 band EQ pedal gets used most of the time. £30 Caline thing.
  10. Go for it. Might have started life as an HB but it's evolving to suit your taste. Doubt you'd be thinking of swapping the neck if you'd dropped £600 on a bass, chances are you'd just sell it. This way you're getting exactly what you want in small stages.
  11. Reapting myself again. Bought a £76 Harley Benton PB-50 just to see what £76 got you. Turned out £76 got me a nice looking bass with a fantastic neck that sounded great. Put Status Hot Wire tapes on it and promptly ignored my other basses. Bought another, strung with TI's this time. 4 years later I still mostly ignore my other basses.
  12. @Rikkers Why are you concerned about the American economy ? Doubt they lose any sleep over your's.
  13. Excellent. Any effort that entices hipsters to part with stupid amounts of cash should be praised 😉
  14. Used to lug the washing machine, commonly known as a Carlsbro Stingray, on the bus. Bass was strapped to my back.
  15. You'll bankrupt me one of these days
  16. Champion. Give me a shout about the Herrick
  17. Nice one. I've fancied trying one of those for a whiile. Is it the same size as the Herrick or did it need help ?
  18. Fantastic. Job well done :-)
  19. Glad to hear you're healing ma brother
  20. Morning @BrunoBass Good to see you making progress Stripping the finish off mine's was a mistake ,awfy glad you never took that road Grabbed a couple of bridge ashtrays out the drawer this morning. For the 4 screw bridge you need the large cover (133mm wide),this fella covers it no problem. https://www.axesrus.co.uk/Large-Bass-Bridge-Cover-p/bc1.htm
  21. I much prefer the sound/feel of my £70 Harley Benton PB-50s to my T-20 or Fury. Single coil P-bass with flats or tapes has been my thing for a good while now. Put flats on a Cirrus,to be expected it didn't sound remotely close to a SC P-bass with flats
  22. Carbon weave on the G-bass,carbon reinforce with the Cirrus and Millennium basses, think it's 10/90 mix on the Vigier. Fully carbon neck on the B-Quad. Bright/dark,punchy/lifeless ?? I don't think it makes a blind bit of difference soundwise.
  23. The big fella is getting great sounds from a passive Millennium in some of these videos. https://markporkchopholdermph.com/media-horizon/
  24. Champion. Slim neck and quite light. If it's the active model. Pickups are VFL humbuckers (exact same as went in USA Peaveys), 4 wires so can take a mini switch for coil tap. Preamp is pretty standard. You can get a crazy low action on them by filing the base string height blocks. Takes a shim too Chinese builds I found better than Indonesian, easy to spot Chinese the mouth of the harpoon headstock is beveled,Indonesians had truss rod wheel for adjustment. Nothing wrong with Indonesian I just think the Chinese builds had that bit extra, wish I never sold mine now Some of the finishes are stunning, the violet quilt on my Chinese beat the violet quilt on my USA Millennium Plus hands down. If it's the passive then I've never played one but I'll get you a YT link for a country/blues fella with one.
  25. Need a bit more to go on. There's passive Internationals, active Fury 5's, passive Grind 5's,active Grind 5's (JJ), Millenniums in active and passive then finally Zephyr 5/C5's which can be neck thru or bolt on.
