  1. @Andytre I'm hoping you got extra super lucky and that's a mahogany body Patriot They came with just the barest hint of a varnish finish so most folks re-finish at some point. Sorry to say you'll have no luck getting a scratchplate from Peavey, a mounting ring for the SF though can be had from Dave @fretsonthenet. http://www.fretsonthenet.com/ESP_Carvin_Peavey/peavey.htm If you need to know pot or cap values PM me and I'll check what's in mine.
  2. Get a long thin wall socket, might need to grind it a bit thinner. Congratulations on a great bargain.
  3. Nice One Did you ditch the string tree screw ? On my B-stock the 4 bridge screws,2 tug bar screws and the string tree one were all the same length. Thankfully when they put mine together they never tightened up the string tree, screw would've come out the back of the headstock.
  4. It's been nearly a year since they stopped using Wilkinson pickups, the factories in China kept getting fakes and it caused Thomann no end of trouble with returns. The PB-50 has always shipped with D'Addario roundwounds. edit I'm now on my 5th PB-50 and agree while still a bargain it's not quite as good a bargain. A few corners have been cut to save costs.
  5. The amber on the left is the lacquer and photo flame, you can see the under side of it in the right hand photo. The curved strip of wood has me kind of beat, it's an even 0.7mm thick. It peeled off the body. I keep coming back to thinking they've sealed the body with a shellac or something similar and the heat gun lifted it too.
  6. I'm thinking there's been a change of factory because I never found any of those points on my previous 4. The one witha QC date last November looked like this. The with QC date this January looks the same as yours.
  7. Best if just one of us suffers
  8. Oh dear !! £19.99 Vs Buying Nitro Mors, buying heat gun, 4 burns using said heat gun. 3 hours sanding, apply sealer coat, more sanding.£15 on two different sheers of paisley,£7 on spray paint. 5 minutes to balls up job. 5 hours stripping the whole bloody lot off again. Best I go for a lie down in a quiet room
  9. Aye my mistake, was going by a TB thread over the weekend. $30k is mental. I bought a 3 bed house for £25k back in 01 :-)
  10. Wish I'd left the hell alone No actually I wish I never thought about doing the paisley pattern finish
  11. If anybody is planning on stripping the finish this is what you'll find. Between the varnish, photo flame paper and sealed top coat that peels off you'll lose about 1.5mm.
  12. In the $35K Presentation II but not in the plain old Presentation. http://www.fodera.com/anthony-jackson-presentation/ http://www.fodera.com/anthony-jackson-presentation-ii-2/
  13. Before you go and order one I strongly advise you borrow one of mine. The thick necks are an eye opener.
  14. Cracking basses. The Ambrosia Maple (right) weighs 7lb, Bloodwood (left) weighs 12lb. Bloodwood doesn't float in water, that's how dense it is Though Steve-W briefly worked for Ovation Guitars he's always been involved in hillbilly music. That's his market, $200-$300 hand made basses, that they look hand made is intentional. Let's face it a $20K Fodera AJ would look out of place in North Carolina (median family income $48K).
  15. The Andrew Jackson Fodera has no truss rod or graphite bars because Jackson thinks they affect tone. Wishnevsky thinks the same.
  16. That's funny, in the 26 minutes since your post both the seller's ads have been pulled.
  17. What's the matter, no kebab last night
  18. @NancyJohnson I can't see Gibson paying anything near $100 for Grovers. Grover tuners are made in China by Ping. Great tuners but $100 for Chinese, even high quality , parts seems awfully high.
  19. @BrunoBass Congratulations on joining the ranks of PB-50 owners That was pretty niffty delivery timing since it only shipped Wednesday. @machinehead I've owned 5 of these and all have hovered around 9lb using luggage scales
  20. @Dan Dare Are we thinking about the same Gibson ? Word is morale in the Gibson factories was so bad that workers were sending out any old rubbish as an "FU" to the company. "don't have to abide by any workplace or materials regulations," Take it you forgot about the raid and fine over illegal timber. " They should go back to making things that are special/desirable " Aye,they should follow Fender's lead and start selling similar stuff to this
  21. @BrunoBass Before they would just ship the boxes out and deal with any QC issues after delivery. This year they have started doing checks before shipping, imagine that's the cause for the delay.
  22. Oh you're welcome @BrunoBass, glad you found something of interest 4 years down the line the PB-50 is still the bass that works for me. I'm waiting a delivery so I can get started on number 5
  23. When you can buy necks from China for £30 why does £89 seem strange?
  24. Here's the real Steve's Music, look at his banner. https://stevesmusic.com/ The scammers have pinched his web design.
  25. I used a white Fablon type film, bought from LIDL, on both my PB-50 and Dano Wildthing scratchplates. Cost £3.99 and reckon it'll do about 5.
