1. It's not so much a frustrating instrument, just one that's slightly different. Along with the fretting thing I also needed a lighter touch when plucking strings. They were bouncing all over the place to start with.
2. Years back there was a Glasgow piano and organ seller called Thomson. Early 80's they were selling Thomson branded guitars and basses. Don't remember acoustic basses but I had their P-bass and it was a great bass.Jinxed Fender for me,visited Denmark St armed with cash ,must have played 7 or 8 Fenders but they weren't giving me anything extra bar a name. 30 odd year later still never bought one. I'll ask around up here and see if anybody remembers Thomson acoustics.
3. 2nd what Jack and Len say. Another thing was fretting too hard made the note sharp. Went fretless in the end before giving up on it,sounded great though
4. OK first thing. Yes it's a daft name. 2nd thing is they are very shiny. With the crazy number of basses here I'm always looking for decent cheap straps. Well I saw these on eBay at £4 each and the importer,Edinburgh based Simpsons Guitars, had been on the ball answering questions about other stuff so I bought 3. Arriving a couple of days later,my god are they shiny But a 3" strap for £4,I'll cope. The strap button holes were tight so it was easier to unscrew the buttons and feed the bottom through.Really don't see them slipping off.Says 6 lengths are possible but that's not taking into account the 3 holes on the tongue. 140cm long. Test bass was the 12lb Peavey T-40. Handled that no problem Since those first 3 more have been bought,at £4 a lot more Strangely since I started buying them they've went up to £4.99 but there's 10% discount when you buy 3+ The picture here doesn't really capture how shiny they are so there's a stock pic too but if you don't mind the patent leather look and are looking for a decent affordable strap you might consider them. 5. Congrats Andy. Hate to tell you this but I've no intention of selling my black sparkle G bass
6. Got Matt's H&K bassforce head. Fella's a breeze to deal with. Despite him being away,I suspect for the bank holiday,he was quick to respond and the head was posted soon as he got back. Well protected and sent "next day delivery" with UK Mail.Price was bloody good too. Completely painless transaction. Cheers Matt.
7. Reckon the " litigious" thing is past it's sell-by date. They never filed the TM in Australia so companies can claim it's a Pitbull copy Regarding the deko, got mine from greenalsatian at £150.Same as Deacon John sold his for. It didn't get a warm welcome on the FB Faker page either, wasn't fake enough for them
8. What about using something like Fiddes Hard Wax oil ? You can add a tint or use ready mixed. http://www.wood-finishes-direct.com/product/fiddes-hard-wax-oil-tints?sid=2
9. Got a set of La Bellas flats from Dan. Pleasure to deal with, great comm and zero hassle. Cheers Dan.
10. Saw a bass sell via FB for £50 last week, was back on sale this weekend at £100. Initial feeling about this "flipping", as the Americans say, was not too good. Then common sense kicked in.£50 was a daft asking price
11. I've a set of Sadowsky Blue label that may be roundwound but they're incredibly smooth. Still in the packet I'm afraid but maybe someone can comment on their tone?
12. Skank Hector told me they were skint, having got the Burns on tick.He was also afflicted by GAS,one time importing an EUB ? from the US. I thought it might have been an Ampeg Scroll bass but he says it was a Gretsch, must have been the Country Gentleman. The drummer worked for Hepworths Menswear in nearby Alloa so the stage clothes were "borrowed" then returned, hopefully after a wash Ashweb You're not alone. I want to be like Hector when I grow up too
13. A certain Vigier in the FS section. Don't have the funds, don't have a valid reason for it but damn I'd like it.
14. Jack He told me it was a Burns. The Tuxedo All stars were on the go late 50s to early 60s,bit before my time so I couldn't say what he was playing. He did say he was using nylon tapes on it. Msg'd me earlier about a case for it but then ordered a gigbag from Andertons. Hasn't told his wife of 60 years yet Could be a rammy in the Raploch tonight
15. Trying to downsize some of the herd I got asked about the T-Bird. Was very happy to meet it's new owner. Hector Maclean from Stirling. Might be 79 but he's still a Rocker an has a wealth of stories.Told him if you drape the strap from the lower button across the front of the bass there's no neck dive. " Och son. There's nae neck dive ! Just adapt yersel tae the bass. " Put me in my place :-) Here's him in his early days
16. Broke bottom E. Hit it right down by the saddle and it just snapped. Don't ask me why, it was back in the drinking years,
17. Got one of the Peavey semi hollow basses, The Resolite. Only 4 were ever built. 2 stayed in America and 2 came to Europe. A friend in the States knows where those two are but we've drawn a blank on the other one. So just 3 accounted for.
18. Got good pots from this eBayer. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-2-5-10-20-50-100-200-500-K-M-Ohm-Potentiometers-Lin-Log-Switched-Single-Dual-/110857852314?var=&hash=item5f7c1832d4 Well it's a start
19. Getting " Tick " on PP That's a dangerous bit of info for me to hear
20. All yours Beedster. Really don't need another Peavey this week
21. I'll second those congratulations.
