1. Cheers Burns-bass. The one set of neighbours have crazed dogs that bark if they hear a fag paper rustle and the other two have young kids, plus they're Muslim so I doubt wine will help there The bass mute turned out to be a 2 inch plastic disc and I've no idea how it works. Next move will be a practise mute from Thomann. No free time from work until December so no rush.
2. Has anybody built the Growling Krizzly from musikding ? http://www.musikding...xe-kit?lang=eng I've got a feeling it would be beyond me but that's never stopped me,course I could see sense and get somebody to build it
3. Had to Google Vulfpeck. Jealous as hell now
4. Totally agree bubinga. That is fantastic
5. Great song but I always think of Money Don't Matter 2 Night when I hear it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pel9PNvxTGs
6. The Final item on my GAS list going back 30 year. Appearing 3 -4 weeks before funds would be available
7. The kick in the spuds was I'd phoned Parcel Force about charges but got told there wasn't any due. My fault for believing them. Again !!
8. Just got nailed £15 Import Tax,Vat and handling charge on a £32 preamp Customs is currently debating if they want both my kidneys for a bass coming from Japan. If you want it, buy it. Kidneys are over rated.
9. Thanks folks. Appreciate the advice.
10. As some may know I'd never been closer to a DB than a shop window before Saturday morning. I'm no great shakes at fretless either so fully expected to sound rough. This is beyond rough ! Is there any way to practise quietly ? I've ordered a string mute but doubt even that will be enough to protect the neighbours. For years I've always played electric bass at home through headphones or unplugged and there's no TV so I suspect I've become accustomed to quiet. I've a huge amount of work to do before I even grasp the basics and this hang up about the noise needs to be overcome first. Any tips or pointers ? Cheers KB
11. Thanks very much for the replies folks. Judging for the distances mentioned I've started this the right way Hope it's not a regular thing,I was knackered at work today.
12. Couple of sets of half rounds arrived from Cammy yesterday. Dead easy to deal with. Cheers Cammy
13. "That is a huge collection of basses. You have more basses than most shops!" Eh that's only some of them
14. Thanks anon That is a good summary of the procedure followed apart from using a bungee strap to keep the neck supported.
15. Thanks Phil. Been told I have a Peavey problem I can see plenty of questions coming, like muting. Just played "Shortening Bread" and it sounded terrible
16. Like many the thought of having a DB always appealed to me but worries about space put me off. Many chances were missed then this week ChrisF put his DB up for sale at an incredible price.Using a courier wasn't an option so I decided to drive, even with fuel for the 750 mile roundtrip it was still a bargain. Trip down must rate as one of the worst I've ever done I'd planned on using the A1(M) all the way but satnav sent me across Scotland to go A74(M).The Berwick pit stop changed to a nervous drive to Biggar, all the way the fuel gauge on RED.Joined the M74 in pissing rain with shocking visibility, down to 10 yards.Just as I thought "this is nuts,no-one should be driving in this " The windscreen wipers packed in Doing 70 in the middle lane, trucks to the left and in front, madmen doing 80+ on right.Knicker wetting stuff 5 hours later I'm home and call Chris saying I'll make another attempt that night. The Cramps are playing "Naked Girl Fallin Down the Stairs" on the radio as I leave. That's a great omen 8 hour later, satnav still wants me to travel down the west, I arrive at's Chris's house in Bedfordshire Never held a DB before, damn they're BIG Gonna be a steep learning curve but Scotland's psychobilly folks will get a laugh. Fueled by coffee and bacon sandwich kindly provided by Chris's wife it was time to fit it in the Micra 3 or 4 attempts and use of bungee straps it was in.Had to duck down to see in wing mirror but it was good to go.Judge for yourselves if you'd happily transport a DB like this. Finally after 18 hours driving and with mishaps 1000 miles covered we both arrived back in Falkirk. Holly is a welcome addition to the clan.
17. Have to extend my gratitude to Chris for being a Top Man. Combination of weather and broke window wipers meant last night's plan went to hell. Despite there being a queue for the DB, Chris was kind enough to give me another attempt at the trip. If that had failed the sale might have been postponed for a week so I appreciate the 2nd chance. Dead easy fella to deal with, wish I'd have had longer to chat but the 7 hour drive home nixed that Cheers Chris
18. Got a set of Gotoh machine heads from Chris this week. The worthy gent asked only for a donation to his charity run for The Samaritans. Gladly pitched in with that. Cheers Chris
19. Just found the English version manual in a drawer and scanned it. MacDaddy saved me the upload to dropbox Mine has the same info to the one she kindly pointed to.
20. Just checked the box. Got one page in Chinese and one in Japanese. All they do is number the controls and name them in English. There's an acoustic guitar version but no PDF manual for that either.
21. Aye the $1000 kinda throws me too. Peavey always tried to keep bases under that. Exchange rate back then would put the Palaedium at around £700.
22. Long time back Jeff also had a Peavey Sig bass called the Palaedium . Folks said it was a great bass like a high end jazz with no hum. Might be due to the passive Barts it had. Was $1000 back in 90/91. If you see any videos with Jeff playing a bass like this then that's the Peavey.
23. I'll just leave this here. Not that I'm biased https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PjwHFHDz_Hg
