1. Turkish trousers are important to have in the wardrobe too.....oh and a kaftan
2. I wear tie dye t-shirts and a lab coat.
3. I play a bad River People.....Jaco's movement up n down the fingerboard was superb.
4. I love good value kit.....well done and i'm glad you've got some gear that is comfortable and plays well. I agree that far too many people love talking about the name on their headstock rather than actual playing. Enjoy the gear, play the gigs n rehearsals and enjoy it 👍
5. Cool looking bass right there! Glad you like the new pups
6.
So last night was a triple whammy of new things - 1) I was back on the Hofner with my long scale version of my old "bass that got away", 2) I debuted my Ampeg head and it sounded *sweet* and 3) against all common sense I flightcased the amp so had fun and games getting it in and out of the car! I've been really back into playing so practiced like crazy ahead of the show and consequently I don't recall making a mistake all night.Who knew, practice does help One minor niggle was we'd given up our backline as headliners and one band who I won't name were so up themselves the bassist just assumed, didn't thank me and didn't treat my kit with any respect. If I play with them again he can go through the PA. Needless to say they disappeared the second they finished playing. Thankfully the other band were very cool.
I am generally always happy for other bands to use my amp but i do like at least some common courtesy and a bit of respect for the kit.
7. It's at times like these that i realise i am completely inept at music theory. Thanks for the contribution though 👍
8.
Which is great until the tagged people get so pissed off with your marketing techniques they end up ditching you.
Tbf i usually tag people that have shown an interest in live music and are local ish to the gig. Not just everyone on my friends list
9. The trick with Facebook is to tag loads of people into the initial poster / Flyer then be relentless on making build up posts as the gigs draw nearer. If done right all those tagged will get the updates
10. Capacitor discharging i believe.....i had a very old Carlsbro that used to do this up to about 5 mins after i switched it off.
11.
It's a Fodera with quite unique system I've not seen before so I don't want to risk damaging it.
That's fair enough.....i have set up many instruments but would get a bit of a sweat on over such an expensive bass. Nevertheless i'm sure there are manufacturers instructions in existence on t'interweb thingy and in all honesty those specs are what a tech would likely use.
12. Why don't you have a go yourself? Once you get the hang of things it's a fairly easy task. There are loads of instructional vids on YouTube. Practice doing it with the old strings forst before you put new ones on. The only time i go to a tech is teally for stuck or very tight truss rods.
13. We play other bands songs and we write our own songs. We have fun, sometimes we get paid and sometimes we don't. We get gigs and we really don't worry about what we are defined as.
14. My Mex Precision plays very nicely for me even in comparison to some very expensive instruments. It has also been gigged, stays in tune and does exactly what i bought it for. I have to say the Standard USA instruments imho don't warrant the extra cost of purchase.
15.
Get in get paid and get out. Anyone watching that moans should be directed toward whoever made the stipulations about sound and take it up with them.
This.....the venue are restricting the sound so play the gig, get paid then move on 👍
16. The band starts off being the Jam then rapidly turns into the Style Council.
17.
Theres nothing magic about a precision, its just that with a single mid placed pickup you get a sound that is quite hard to turn into the usual over scooped / excessively low boosed mush that so many clueless weekend warrior players seem so enamoured of.
Ahh those pesky clueless weekend warrior players eh! 😐
18. I understand it under another term.....that term being "Utter Bo££o€ks" Hope this clarifies.
19. I like my Fender Precision but i also like my non Fender Jazz and my non Fender PJ. For gigging though my Precision is my bass of choice. Just simple controls and a decent solid tone.
20. A really enjoyable gig last night.....we were on 3rd in a line up of 4 bands and i have to say we rocked it! Stage sound was good, sound Eng and foh was good. The landlady made me a nice big cup of tea.....oh and we got asked by the headline band to do an encore which ate into their time slot a little. All good
21. I've nearly fallen through.....a hole in the Comedy Pub stage Nr Leicester Sq.....
22. A lot of people use lighter fluid to clean away the years of grime n gunk then use a polish afterwards to get a good sheen and protect the finish.
23. Their best work is likely behind them so perhaps they should all hang up their instruments.
