1.
Forgetting about the childish crap about music stands and not performing unpaid, it's an interesting thread because unfortunately this type of gig just not exist around here! We do get various motorcycle club rallies that are very similar in terms of PA, lights & staging etc. Everyone loves playing them as it gives you the chance to play on a big stage to a couple of thousand people, which is pretty cool for the average bar band. They usually pay the same as a well paid pub gig, although the bigger rallies may pay a couple of grand for the headliner (often one of the bigger rock tribute acts). Unfortunately a lot of these events are struggling financially these days and some have called it a day, but they are certainly great fun to play.
Yes this.....because it's all serious and not childish crap. Good on you 👍😆
2.
Do I really need to point out that my 'tribute band' comment was not entirely -- or even slightly -- serious? It must be a cultural thing.
So are you going ahead with the music stands or not?
3.
My unpaid non-Beatles-influenced tribute band needs some new music stands for 4 hour gigs -- they should have plenty of heft and good handles, and be good for metal. Any suggestions?
Music stands.....well i'd walk straight out if i saw them
4. Our band might apply for Tribfest next year.....undecided as yet but we can do a decent hour+ set if called upon.
5. Clearly talented but not my cuppa tea. Never liked Mr Big and not really into Winery Dogs. I like his Sig Basses though.
6.
That was lousy.
Some comments really 'bug' me
7. I try to cram as much in my gig bag as possible. I used to use my hardcase for the Precision but it's too unwieldy on public transport. I have a Diago pedal board but normally take a Zoom to rehearsals.
8. Geek, did you take the bass to Church yet? Any reactions ?
9. Finger coordination, speed and scales. Daily if i can unless life gets in the way. P.S. forgot a bit of music reading theory too.
10. Is it okay to play a reliced bass for a fee.....or do contributors prefer playing relics for free? Or even just for the exposure?
11. I had to drop to Wunjo's today in their new basement home. I bought a 5 string about a year back it has really had very little use so i thought a part ex trip to Denmark St was in order. I need a 4 string back up.....a quick chat with Tom (or was it Tom?) and a great deal done on a part ex and i now have a Yamaha 424x in a nice metallic red. Always good doing business with Wunjo's
12. Our drummer is pretty reliable..... He ain't heavy he's my brother.
13. Adrian Shaw (The Bevis Frond)
14. Bob Daisley but he is a rocker.
15. I know nothing about them but it certainly is a nice looking and sounding bit of kit 👍
16. Take your time rebuilding it.....don't want to chip the finish
17. I think that relics aren't necessarily my thing but the OP wanted this and paid for it and is happy with it so the outcome is a happy one 👍
18.
PM Sent.
The GAS must've been expanding.....
19.
Depends on your outlook. I'm sure some of those who were watching thought the two who left shafted the guitarists
Imho the guitards capitulated to accepting the very poor treatment from the promoter.
20. The rest of the band and their lack of unity shafted you.
21. Bass foremost but I can play the drums (ish) if i had to and Synth / Keys at a very rudimentary level. I just remembered i sing (ish) too.
