1. Playing mainly reggae covers it has to be...... Red red wine UB40, Bring me your cup UB40 (and lots more UB40 stuff) oh and i momentarily nodded off once whilst playing Aswads 'Good thing going' at a gig......bores me to sleep that track.
2. Jeez really shocked at all the Barcelona horror stories.....seems a different place as mentioned here to what i went to in 98 . Although tbh our band looked dodgy as f%$£ out there....perhaps that why we never got mugged or had any hassles.
3. Cheers guys, i'll try pushing the poles pieces through and see if that yields any results. I've tried the eq earlier and no joy on that, perhaps i should try a compressor? It's strange because i want to play my MM more but keep coming back to my Jazz as it never lets me down. Flats could be a good option on the MM. Sildxx, i'm using Lindy fralin pick ups in my Jazz which seem to be well balanced with the tone roled off. I also have Lindy's in my 5 string too...really rate them. Does the J-East J retro allow for a passive option also or is it all active?
4. Selling my PA as it doesn't get used. The speakers look like EV300 speakers, same casing etc but with what i think are Eminence speakers-the guy i bought them off said they were but i've never had a need to check; they have EV B grade written on the back but i cannot vouch that they are genuine EV speakers - both have tweeters. It sounded great quality when i used it at a local gig a year or so ago - complete with tripod poles which have bags. Thankfully our drummer has a huge PA so i've never had a need for this PA. Also have a Studiomaster VPX15 600W active bass sub, has built in crossover which is useful for the aforementioned speakers. A great powerful combination together. See here All items are heavy so collection form Plymouth only. Looking for £250 o.v.n.o for both - is this reasonable? , may split if required. Can throw in speakon cables and a small amp for extra £50. May consdier part trade on a P neck, preferable maple and/or Zoom H1 or H2 field recorder plus cash my way. Happy to email pictures, just PM me.
5. Hello, Hope someone can share their pearls of wisdom. I scored an 88 MM Stingray on here a few months back and i have to say i love it to bits, plays like a dream and easily my favourite bass........however: The bass itself seems to have a lot more treble than i'm used to. It's great i guess if your a funkateer and want to do the Louis Johnson thing, however i'm not that talented to do Louis. I guess i'm a dub man who likes a warm phat sound so i have the treble pretty much all the way off. When playing like this the G & sometimes the D gets lost, the E & A strings notes dominate the sound. I've tried raising the pick up towards the G and dropping at the E end. I've also fiddled with my amp eq to see if i can balance the strings more....no luck. I have owned three MM's rays in the past and don't remember having this issue - is it an 80's thang?. Any suggestions? I'm considering maybe i need to change the pre-amp (one day as skint) to a John East - i used to have one on a Pre EB ray and had no issues. Or should i consider the pick up, maybe a Norstrand or any other suggestions? Are there any modifications i can do to the MM pre amp? One thing i have not considered until now is turning the bass EQ down on the bass and then up on the amp, maybe that may work ??? Any thoughts ?
6. My old funkrock band did a mini tour in Barcelona back in 98'...t'was great fun!!! I flew Easyjet with my bass packed in bubble wrap etc - it was checked at customs too. You'll have a blast, great crowds out there that seem more up for dancing than your average uk crowd in my opinion. Very jealous, wish i was out there again; i could write a book about our little hedonistic driven tour out there See if you can blag Catalonia tv coming to a gig also.
7.
I hope Rasta doesn't mind me using his thread, but the project for which I bought this neck is no longer going to happen, so if anyone wants it for what I paid (ovno), £125, feel free to drop me a PM. It really is a very nice bit of wood. I'll also trade for a decent rack mount reverb or a decent small diaphragm condenser mic Cheers C
No probs mate, have modified the original post. If i had some spare cash i would have this back in an instant as i fancy a neck for my Ryder pimp but alas skint times at the mo Good luck with the sale, i shouldn't imagine it will be here for long.
8. First Bass Owned: Ibanez Tr series 'Go To' Bass: Lakland JO5 (with Lindy Fralin pick ups) 'Your' Bass: Custom Fender jazz (with Lindy Fralin pick ups)
9. My first bit of bling, used a Mighty might PG - wasn't a great fit as had a bit of filing to do, new strings too!!!...really want a maple neck if anyone wants to swap?
10. Now on the bay, with better pics - here Better pics here
11. One thing i love about being in a reggae band is i never have to compete with a geeetwrist....tis usually the otherway round
12. I've been playing the OTB through both a Ampeg SVT 4x10HLF and occassionally a Peavey 4x10 TX or 2x10 TX....i must say i'm impressed with the Peavy sounds....holds up very well
13.
Anyone had any luck replacing the pickguard? Want to know if a basic fender pickguard will fit and if not what needs done to fit it
+1 ....i quite fancy putting a Tort on my Sonic Blue.
14. Prob the last bump before the avitbay tomoza
15. Bought an MP3 control mixer thingy, all good, no probs here...buy in confidence
16. I love the OTB! I've been using this amp for reggae and dub and couldn't be more pleased. I've sold my Ampeg pro 4 as result which was a great amp but the Orange seems to perform similar if not better yet a third of the weight. Great amps!
17. An awesome bass bump, jammed it tonight...superb player - may not sell actually
18. £270 before the evilbay...great bass here folks!
19. The Wailers bassist Aston Family Man Barrett was playing the Hohner B-Bass for a while
20.
What the hell, Navy with Maple just ordered.
Thats the spirit. FWIW i saw a maple necked P on a red body yesterday in the Exmouth Devon branch so the maples are out there. Think i would have prefered maple but i'm happy with my rosewood on my sonic. Also as an update gave it a thrashing earlier through my amp, stonking i'd say although my tone pot seems pretty useless. Am thinking of getting a tort plate if anyone can recommend one that fits?
21. This Tobias bass needs to go to a good home where it will get played. I'm pretty much always playing my Jazz or MM these days and this is too nice a bass as just a back up to have lying around. I've just bought a £60 Ryder as a back up for that very reason. Blemish free, active circuit, low action, lovley wood grain, top quality build, neck through, soft case...don't know what else to say other than its a great players bass: Better pictures here £300 posted (well packed)
22.
Looks nice mate but I'm afraid it's not really what I'm looking for.
No worries Jon, have a bump for a great bass....someone will get a joy when they buy this
23. Mine arrived half an hour ago, no brainer for £60 - very impressed, lovely sky sonic blue, nice rosewood board, fret dressing is nice, neck pocket seems tight, ...even the action is good on mine with no buzzes. I haven't plugged it in yet though All in all though very surprised and happy
24. Late starter at 21 ish, although i had dabbled with a few chords on geeetar for a year prior. First joined some Salopian/Welsh hippies band and was asked if i wanted to play bass doing cheesey covers; my first bass was a Ibanez TR bass. Then I was put on a funk apprenticeship when a bassist left a mates funk band, my mate showed me the basslines and i was in at the deep end but listening to P-funk/Funkadelic etc was my saviour. Bought a Musicman and Trace amp-joyness. Was tought the tunes and spent 5-6years flying the mothership in both UK and Europe....was never one for practicing so never got any good really...could just about play the bands tunes. Moved to Devon, did a music course for a year learning some theory and joined the university of Dub reggae, graduated with herbers. I'm also a youthworker so I did a stint teaching bass which was great for me too as it gave me an opportunity to learn how to play Discovered basschat a few years ago, change my bass guitar and rig with what seems like every week as a result , not because i'm searching for the ultimate bass/rig (is there such thing?) but the fact i love trying different gear when i can. I still dub the low notes today with a few local reggae players although admittedly throughout my days i've also always loved bands like Ozric tentacles and Gong and therefore dabble in a bit of the psychedelic prog now and then; actually got a band going at the mo with a few local festies lined up.....niceness. Currently am loving my custom Fender Jazz bass, Lakland JO5 and Musicman Stingray to deliver all this. Jazzfunkfusionreggaedubprogrock player i guess
25. Hi Jon, i keep coming back for a sentimental longing wistful affection for ye olde Warwick, this is the first bass that made me feel like i could slap, well.... still badly, but better on this bass Could i interest you in my Tobias Toby Pro & say £75? The Tobias is in superb condition and a really great quality made bass, plays a lot like the Warwick but not the same sound, perhaps more middle focused than the Warwick. Pics here No worries if not, have a bump for nostalgia
