I've not tried AT and perhaps I should, but if you'll forgive a slightly OT diversion I've learned a lot from Pilates over the last 18 months. Playing any bass, but especially DB, involves twisting things - left shoulder and left forearm in particular - in ways unplanned by Mother Nature. Many of the exercises I now do are designed to ease things before I play, and then to undo some of the damage afterwards.

Intrigued at the notion of using 2 x CR2032 batteries. Wonder how long they'll last?
I wasn't concerned with melodic instruments; more the percussive side. Although there is a whole art form to certain oriental rhythms, passed from generation to generation by vocalism, modern drumming lends itself poorly to this, ime.
You just walk round the park (in French, that's parc) going "Doof, tish, da-doof doof tish, boom shagga-lagga-lagga boom shagga-lagga-lagga boom shagga-lagga-lagga BOOM". Or whatever.

There's no point in jumping to conclusions slowly ...
When I see covers bands who deviate from the 'originals' I just think that they haven't put the work in and am generally disappointed. I know some bands like to imagine they are being 'creative' by doing their own 'versions' - but my view is that if you want to do that then why not write your own bloody songs and have hits with them yourself??
This. Absolutely this. It's not just Alright Now and Money ... there are so many songs where a particular bass lick or riff is somehow key to the overall feel of the song. Get it right, or play a song that you can get right. Don't screw it up and then claim that it was "your interpretation".
... but from where I was standing (to the side of the cab and not in front so less than ideal) it was awfully woolly too and lacked definition on any individual notes I was playing.
Well boy howdy, that ain't right. The whole point of these rigs is that they fill the place with bass, and you should be able to hear yourself pretty much anywhere. As to "woolly" and "lacking definition" that sounds like a duff head to me. My Matamp is right at the other end of the spectrum from those descriptions.

Don't get obsessed with playing exactly the original bassline. In many cases it will be entirely appropriate to play a precise note-for-note reproduction, but there will also be plenty of cases where it does NOT make sense. I don't try to replicate the original bassline to Don't Be Cruel (Elvis Presley) because my band has no piano. The bassline I play is a synthesis of Bill Black's double bass and the pianist's left hand. The bassline to Play That Funky Music (Wild Cherry) is anything but funky, in fact it's crap. So I play a funky bassline which actually works better than the original (in my ever-so-humble opinion ) but I play the original bassline under the guitar solo just to show that I do actually know it. Etc. etc. etc.
A very specific instrument ...
Oh well, so long as you're not just buying one at random then ... ps: Really sorry about Theo BTW.

You're not really going to buy a DB from the States are you?

You gave up the chance to have your own performance poet?

There may be a reason why he has never seen another one like this ...

Today I played Herbie Flower's 1959 Jazz Bass
Happy Jack replied to Plux_the_Duck's topic in Bass Guitars
I bought a bass flightcase from ebay a few years ago. It has Herbie Flowers stencilled on it and loads of tour stickers Abbey Rd etc. It was kind of hinted it was his. It will fit my P but I always though it would be better suited for a Jazz. Its the heaviest case in the world! I might have the very case his 59 sat in!
Nah ... they never made those flightcases until '63 ... -

Ah yes, the 70s, when rock musicians still knew how to flounce ...

Japanese and been towed 300 mile up the M6
Happy Jack replied to karlfer's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
[Pedant] It's actually quite an achievement to tow anything 300 miles up the M6: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M6_motorway [/Pedant] -
I think you should use exactly the same kit as in 1978, you know, for the sake of complete verisimilitude ...

I've messaged him.
I have been thinking about the cause of the issues and have come to the conclusion that the sound problems were as a result of the temporary wooden stage over a large void, booming back the sound and feeding back through the microphones. What do you think, guys? Would Gramma pads have helped tame this? I had thought of sitting my stack on some memory foam from and old mattress, or raising it up off the floor on a camping table.
This will certainly have been at least part of the problem, and I had exactly this issue with a mic (SM55 Elvis mic) on a round iron base when playing a raised wooden stage. Gramma pads are good for bass rigs, not so much for microphones. As to putting a bass rig on an old mattress ... erm ... I think not!

Gallien Krueger MB200 - Real life experiences ???
Happy Jack replied to Wayne Firefly's topic in Amps and Cabs
... the real world at varying size gigs with a loud drummer !!!
I think you'll struggle. The MB200 is really very good for what it is, but you won't have a lot of headroom at the best of times. Against a loud drummer, the extra cost to upgrade to an MB500 will soon seem like a good investment. -
As well as BestPractice, there's a Winamp plugin called PaceMaker which does the same thing. Or, if you want to play music on an Android phone and change speed or pitch, there's the Maple MP3 player.
Links! We need links!
