1. Why are you trying to stay away from the silly sort? From Pink Floyd to Red Hot Chili Peppers to ...
2.
If you take my example of String ranges; The Gallery (and loads of others, including on-line) stocks seven brands (or more); which includes a long established British brand: Rotosound), compared to Wunjo's one. That makes business sense............................surely?
As a long-standing fun of Wunjo's I could easily slip into "kneejerk" mode here, but the reality is that strings can be bought far cheaper and with a far greater choice on-line. It's good that The Gallery stocks a wide range, but I don't see stocking a very narrow range as a weakness. The Gallery charges premium prices and can afford to carry slow-moving stock; Wunjo's relies on a rapid turnover of its stock. I should perhaps mention that the Bass Cellar used to carry a far wider range of bass strings than Wunjo's does now. I only ever bought strings there once because, despite their range, they hardly ever had the exact strings I wanted. That's not a criticism of the Bass Cellar, more a comment on how wide a range exists and how hard it is to stock them all ...
3. I use a Hercules 5-way and a 3-way. Very simple, very effective. The only thing to watch for is that the neoprene padding can wear through under the weight of the instruments - which may also be true of other makes. On my 5-way, I ended up wrapping foam underlay (for carpets) around the worn support poles and simply gaffa-ing in place. Ugly, but it works and it's easily repaired next time ...
4.
Elvis Costello has released more albums, more singles and more films. He probably plays more instruments (hard to be certain). Costello's music also incorporates more genres of music and his musical skills are undoubtedly higher. As for singing, beauty is in the ear of the beholder. Presley probably has it there for clarity and old fashioned crooning.
We know Grangur, we know. I think people are winding you up a bit - there's no shortage of affection and respect for "the other Elvis" on Basschat.
5. In all fairness, he replaced the "end tuner". The results could have been very different if he'd replaced one of the middle tuners ...
6. Walked past there yesterday and saw the posters ... do like the Minimum R&B idea.
7. In the middle photo, that white thing on my left ear was a bulky, blood-stained bandage (think Jack Nicholson in Chinatown). A word of advice kids, never slice your ear open with a razor ... it'll bleed forever.
8. I thought this was going to be about Bill Black or Jerry Scheff.
9. They tell me that they're flat enough already ...
10.
How on earth do people actually play those six and seven string monsters?
Like you're clutching your favourite pillow, while dealing with acute constipation ... 11. Tonight ... tonight ... won't be like any night ...
12. In fact, having thought about it, if you decide to take that advice then please call me - I might well buy that neck off you and get all Dusty Hill on yo' ass.
13. Some times you need to know when to walk away. Trying to "salvage" what many others would consider to be a beautiful neck could be the edge of a slippery slope, with a money pit at the bottom. Sell the neck un-salvaged and buy the neck you actually want. My tupp'orth ,,,
14. Fascinating stuff, but why on earth would you want to buy this? Just put strings on your ironing board ...
15. Plastic bag? Luxury! We 'ad to drag t'bass along motorway wit' piece o' string ... etc. etc. etc. ad infinitum
16. I wonder if Pino will do the 'Dying Swan' bit that JMJ introduced, pretending to be so overcome by the music and the event that he could barely stay on his feet ...
17. Having seen NIN at the O2 some years ago with Justin Meldal-Johnsen on bass, I am staggered at the notion of Pino Palladino playing industrial metal ...
18. Given that the velcro was actually a Tombola prize, I'm not at all sure what happened there ...
19. What on earth is a "woodworm Telecaster"? And who is Dave Gillmore?
20. The best I came up with (and still occasionally gig with) is a pairing of Compact + Midget. If you're looking to keep costs down, bear in mind that Alex has just launched a new range of cabs, so a number of Barefaced afficianados will be seeking to trade up ... in the process unleashing a tidal wave of pre-loved sales.
21. Haven't had a chance to read that yet. Any news about the handles ...
22.
I was just about to write this
Good thing you didn't ... you'd have Discreet jumping all over you!
