1.
Excellent idea, but the real question is - did the shirt fit?!
Haven't had a chance to wear it yet! I was really tempted to put it on for our gig that night, but we were running so late (and I was so sweaty & knackered) that I ended up staying in my t-shirt. Many thanks for bringing it along, and for the loan. Pics will follow, I promise ...
 2.
* Surprising amount of machine gun slap in the noisy room. next time I'm bringing a headphone amp and some in ear monitors (occlusive). At NAMM and the other music shows they have 'quiet' periods, which I would have appreciated.
The first time we did the BassBash at that school, I brought along four varieties of in-ear or headphone rigs for people to compare and set them all up in the Quiet Room. That also allowed people to bring basses to those rigs and hear what the basses actually sounded like. Think I might re-visit that idea next year ...
 3.
... so I then considered another neck but shied away from that because it seemed a step to far to change something major on a bass that is sonically correct.
Swopping necks is fun & easy. That bass is made of interchangeable parts ... they're designed for mix'n'match! Also, put flatwounds on it.
 4. I rate these boxes very highly indeed. I have a Plat Pro (plus a bunch of other expensive toys I can plug a DB through) but even when there's room and time to use them, I revert to the Stage Bug. It has the enormous advantage of being idiot-proof. There is literally nothing you can do to it or with it that will damage the sound of your bass. OK, you can't enhance the sound either, but it depends on how many times you've screwed up the knobs & functions on-stage I guess. Besides, I actually like the way my DB sounds through one of these. It's a slightly more aggressive, cutting tone ... nothing in-yer-face but enough to make a difference.
 5.
Tone Hammer and VT Bass DI are on the 'to google' list.
And jolly good they are too, but don't forget all the toys. Fuzz & distortion, chorus & tremolo, synth & envelope filters, blah blah blah ...
 6. OK Mark, I'm blaming the really late night last night and the vintage rum this evening ...
 7. +1 for the SGC Nanyo Bass Collection. You'll struggle to find an SB310 or (even better) an SB320 for less than £200 these days but you'll be blown away by the quality and playability.
 8. Hope I'm not going OT here, but why not leave the bass alone and just add pedals?
 9.
Pub gig last night in Barnes SW London. Not too many there at the start ....
He's not joking you know. When we kicked off set #1, apart from the handful of people the band had brought the audience really did comprise one man and a dog. Then the dog left.
 10. For me, yesterday's lesson was that less is more. Next year, I will bring no basses and no amps/cabinets. In fact, I will just bring myself and I will spend the entire day listening to fascinating talks by people I respect, and playing fabulous instruments that I will never own, and talking to people I don't get to spend enough time with. And I will drink more tea. Maybe I'll eat more pastries too.
 11. I do like reading about the work of people who can use their hands and actually make things. That's a really nice-looking result you've got there.
 12.
What is the deal with claiming things are prototypes? Has one ever genuinely been one? I've seen prototypes, they don't tend to be things that you'd want in favour of a proper thing. Pre production model, maybe.
Bizarrely, I was recently involved in a transaction where (unexpectedly) the instrument that changed hands did actually turn out to be the prototype ... in the process causing immense angst and confusion!
 13. Carpets laid direct on concrete = serious wick effect ... the carpet will literally suck moisture up through the concrete. I'll bet the lower layer of carpet is wringing wet and stinking. Check out the thread from two years ago on my garage conversion - I revived it just a couple of weeks back. You need to lay a false floor on top of the concrete, probably a wooden framework with sheets of marine ply over. That will prevent any wicking and allow some air circulation beneath the floor.

 15. Why block up all the holes? Surely what's needed is better ventilation? Agreed to keeping a greenhouse heater (or similar) going to help dry out the air, but unless the damp is an actual leak or seepage of moisture from somewhere (in which case, block that bit up) reducing the ventilation will make the problem worse.

 17.
I have wide hands and long fingers ...
Hey There! Got Big Hands? You need a Mark D. Phillips Special, preferably a 5-stringer with one string removed to give wider spacing, and a Jazz pickup shoe-horned diagonally into the split-P socket.
 18.
Also Darren the drums is sidelined with a very bad bout of the flu.
Fret not Pavel, MacDaddy and I will between us be supplying a drummer, so the jam room will still be fully functional ...
 19. Tend to agree with chris_b on this, but as it happens I rather like P/J basses for the option to do something different sonically, even if I don't often take advantage of that option. Before buying a P-bass and modifying it, surely it has to make more sense (and will be cheaper) to buy one that someone else has already modded? I see that funkle is thinking along the same lines.
 20.
If I can fit it in, I'll bring my EAD Foundation 212 and Markbass TT500

Oooh yes, now then, now then, that would be lurrrvely <RUBS THIGHS>
If I can fit it in, will you rub my thighs too?
 21. It's all personal, of course, but I really hate that black headstock. In that context, that colour is heavy enough to induce neck dive.
 22. Ah ... so ... no Nigella Lawson content then?
 23.
Updated list as we'll be unfortunatley losing Discreet to his band duties.
Bit disappointing Mark. Ah well, have a good one ...
 24. I survived The Great 2013 Barefaced Handle Scandal
