1. Rick (tash & perm) got into the habit of always wearing that shirt at gigs, no reason that I ever knew. Then Si (MacDaddy of this parish) decided to buy a nearly matching one. You'd have to ask him why he did that. I'm in no position to criticise. I always used to wear my Insecurity shirt for the load in before changing into a fresh shirt for the gig. About five years ago I gave up changing, so I always wear the same shirt at gigs too. Rock & roll!
 2. Ye cannae change the laws o' physics, Cap'n.
 3. Relic'd, more like.
 4. Until this morning I had lived in blissful ignorance that such a silly, pointless word even existed.
 5.
The Aguilar Tone Hammer has to be worth a try.
Yup. I've had the Eden WTX260 and WTX500, the GK MB500, The Orange Terror Bass OTB500, and the Aguilar TH350. They were all good, and all very capable of handling any pub-type gig while delivering the "mostly 60s - 90s music" that Schnozz asks for. Of the five of them, though, the one that's stuck is the TH350. I take it to every gig, even when I'm playing through my Matamp GT100, because it's not only light, versatile and bullet-proof, but it's also small enough to fit in the front pocket of my gig bag as a spare. Not saying "it's the best", like that would mean something. Just that it ticks my boxes very neatly. And I've never even come close to running out of headroom.
 6. The only weddings I've ever played were my sister's, and Paul the Drums' brother. That's two weddings, not one. They weren't marrying each other or anything. Bottom of a hole ... stop digging.
 7. Strewth! That's quite a beast. I wonder if they make one with a Torsal Twist ...

 9. Are you keeping an eye out for a proper neck to replace that pointy one?
 10. Are you going to read the results in reverse order?
 11. Very nice, but does it have the classic Hofner thump?
 12. I was in my beat-up £5000 Vito van in a traffic jam, and I was alongside a gorgeous £100,000 Ferrari. We were going at exactly the same speed. It was a traffic jam. Was he getting twenty times better performance than me? Dunno. But I bet he was getting twenty times as many appreciative looks.

 14. I'm not keen on an active Fraudster. Can these be converted to passive?
 15. Sadly, the 17mm spacing pretty much rules me out for this. What's it made of Ordep - is this a graphite bass? And what does it weigh?
 16. One of these came up cheap on eBay so I bought it for Silvie: https://www.gak.co.uk/en/stanton-uberstand-laptop-stand-silver/94856?gclid=Cj0KEQjwwYK8BRC0ta6LhOPC0v0BEiQApv6jYRLMQ-ywqrzUoW4bKZB-7KHSgz96T5vqwFyPMPv1-Q4aAhGk8P8HAQ Obviously it's not free-standing like those mentioned above, but it works well on either a tabletop or a rack-case.
 17.
Never do a lecture without gaffes tape and an orange, the banana is optional
Surely that should be Jaffa tape ...
 18.
I am not sure where all this leaves Anthony Jackson. He uses a chair AND a music stand. On Big Band Charts, you don't need to turn pages. It's all so fast that you end before the page turn. Look here, AJ proves it from his chair.
All very impressive and slick, great musicianship and all that. Not much of a tune, is it? Nor is it particularly memorable. I guess you had to be there.
 19.
wtf? wish i was clever
It's easy enough Mike ... these are the essential tools used the world over by sound specialists trying to explain the basic principles of compression.
 20.
Wasn't the best post of the last thread something like ..., If I went to a gig a saw a stand I'd walk straight out ?

Hee, hee. Yes, but no-one can remember who said it.
This has become something of a Basschat meme, cropping up all over the place, which makes it tricky to pin down where it started. I can remember it also being used in the context of bass stands, vocal autotune, and drummers playing around the beat!
 21.
The Stones with music stands would look pretty daft.
Last time I saw them live, they could have used some. Keef in particular clearly couldn't remember how quite a few songs went ...
 22.
Hopefully I can make it this year Not sure what to bring ...
I suggest a banana, a tomato, and a roll of gaffa tape. 23.
... and it is something of an ageing audience.
That's alright. We're ageing musicians.
 24. All depends on the sound guys. Of course. I played the East Barnet Festival on Sunday, supporting the Trembling Wilburys. There were FOUR sound guys just on the stage itself, but they were dealing with four acoustic stringed instruments. It took ages to get the feedback under control but after that it was a real pleasure. http://youtu.be/5SnbMJb8NVY
