1. Not entirely clear how an acoustic (or semi-acoustic) ultra-shortscale bass with strings for a bass uke actually differs from a bass uke. Sounds like the same instrument to me. What am I missing?
2. So that means I'm only the third person to choose
3. So it's soft, strong, and very long?
4. Ta Danny, I'll give it a go ... the Basschat massive has spoken!
5.
One question for the floor..... I've just picked up an amp (free from an old friend). It is a Linebacker L30. Unfortunately while in storage two of the knobs have snapped off (volume and bass). Are there people out there that can fix these things - hopefully fairly cheaply? I looked online for spare parts and couldn't find anything promising.
Just use pliers.
6.
If you want to convert a WAV file into MP3 in Reaper you simply choose one of the variations of 'render to MP3'. At this point a window will open in Reaper saying 'mp3 encoder not loaded'. Then you go to lame and download the codec and stick it in the appropriate directory. It's dead easy; if you've used Audacity you'll have no problem.
You bastard! You complete and utter bastard!!!

9. That finish is so nice that it makes me wonder why there's still a red tort p/g. It clashes horribly! I don't do Jazz basses, but if it were mine I'd have replaced that with a black p/g or none at all (routing permitting, of course).
10. Frankly I'm disappointed. When I stipulated very clearly NO AUDACITY it never occurred to me that so few people could be arsed to tell me that I should use Audacity. Only four so far? Come on, Audacity fan boys, don't be shy! I know there's more of you out there ... Meanwhile, back OT, Dad, thanks for the suggestion - I'll try that later.
11. Please DON'T immediately jump in and tell me I need Audacity. I already tried it. Twice. I have no interest in an editor that omits vital files & plug-ins due to "copyright issues" and invites me to source them elsewhere and plug them in. So, once we step away from the Audacity base-camp, what's out there? My needs are VERY simple ... take a WAV file from a rehearsal or a gig (perhaps 2Gb, usually less), save individual tracks as mp3 files, maybe apply some amplification, maybe opt for a fade-in & fade-out, erm, that's about it. Free would be nice but NOT essential. I've spent far too long looking through obviously fake 5-star reviews of crap features and virus-ridden malware, and I'm well aware that almost all of the 'free' downloads are a disaster waiting to happen. I just don't know which ones (if any) are safe to use. I'm talking Windows here, not Mac.
12. In those days, "must be committed" meant you had to have been sectioned under the mental health acts ...

20dB eh? So you pull up the knob and your bass suddenly gets ten times louder. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decibel Yup, makes perfect sense to me.
14. It helps to tell people where you are, and where the bass is.
15. Bin there, dun that, didn't work for me. There's no shortage of lovely fivers with 19mm spacing. I own several. Of all the differences between basses (scale length, number of strings, active/passive, etc.) by FAR the one that I notice the most is string spacing.
16. Insufficiently chilled? Maybe you need some ganja? http://youtu.be/alk1-6CIHxM
17. http://youtu.be/GoT8jl_NKtE Awesome. Just awesome.

19. Thanks Barrie, that's useful - I've never run a business which traded in used goods.

35dB boost? Really? Really really?
21. Started on my 49th birthday using 'Crash Course In Bass' by Basschatter Stuart Clayton. Like all the best tuition books, it makes NO assumptions about your musical ability or knowledge, and simply takes you step by step from your first notes to some reasonably advanced stuff. I really would not start with a Steinberger, no matter how cool it looks! As a complete beginner you will be spending a lot of time playing while sitting down, and that is not a good lap bass. Plenty of time to buy one later, but I recommend starting on something far more conventional. The default option is a Fender Precision or a copy of one or a cheap copy of a copy of one. Someone will be along in a minute to recommend a Fender Jazz instead. I don't agree but it doesn't matter - they're both great designs which will be more than enough to get you started. Good luck.
22.
£1,100 to a list price of £1,650 isn't going to be desperately profitable. Let's say the buyer haggles to get around 10% off and settles on £1,500. That's an initial profit of £400. VAT wipes out £80.
The VAT bit was where I lost you. Bass Direct are VAT-registered, so AFAIK have to charge VAT on the entire price. On a sale at £1500 the VAT included is not £80 but £250. The shop has then paid £1100 for a bass which they are now selling for £1250, a GP of £150 (or 13.6%) before allowing for any overheads, or treatment of the bass. This looks like pretty normal business to me. Am I missing something?
23. ... and it's by Letts too! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Letts-Basses-8-string-custom-fretless-multiscale-fanned-fret-bass-/322228157093?hash=item4b064b7aa5:g:kxsAAOSw0UdXsOub Don't understand at all his comments about how it's strung, but that would be the least of my problems with this thing.
24.
Hi mate. Where are you located?
Check the details under his avatar.
